It appears America was best prepared for this pandemic than any one else in the world. We had processes and procedures in place to deal with this sort of thing. That's of course no thanks to any one person or president but a work of our government as a whole. So for those claiming we were I'll prepared and it was all of Trump's fault, we actually we're very prepared as of 2019. So as long as we followed our policies and procedures, which I'm sure we have it appears the leftists are barking up the wrong tree with the blame game.

That's not to say we can't be better. Ranking #1 in the world just means we were the best, it doesn't mean we have achieved everything we could. It appears we definitely need to make more changes in the way we do things and have those processes in place for the next one. I am confident we will.

Looking at the response, I would disagree. We should have plans activated back in January and started stockpiling then. We are running short of safety equipment that we are having to jury-rig and figure out how to make with 3D printers.

We may have been ready once, but we clearly dropped the ball.

Plans are only useful where there is also the will and ability to implement them from the top. Without that, the potential benefits of any prior planning are quickly frittered away.

The results show otherwise.

But you are correct on one point, our nation has planned for these scenarios for decades and as recently as last year, a major pandemic drill was conducted.

Max Brooks*:

"We have a network in place that we as taxpayers have been funding to get us ready for something just like this," Brooks says of the U.S. response to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, he adds, "we have been disastrously slow and disorganized from Day 1."

Brooks says the notion that the U.S. government was blindsided by the pandemic is "an onion of layered lies."

"What could have happened when this virus exploded — even when Wuhan was locked down — is we could have put the word out," he says. "The government could have put the word out to ramp up emergency supplies to get them ready and then have an information strategy in place."

*Max Brooks has researched disaster preparedness for his novels and has lectured on the subject at the U.S. Naval War College. He has also been a nonresident fellow at the Modern War Institute at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. His new book, Devolution, will be published May 2020.

Well, clearly the reality has not matched up with what it says on paper. Why is that?

The United States and South Korea had their first recorded cases on 20 Jan 2020. Arguing that the United States was best prepared is laughable, but it is unsurprising as the campaign to promote a dear leader enters the next phase. We first saw denial and minimization, then we saw claims of doing an amazing job, and now we'll see an argument that the plan was executed flawlessly. These are all lies, but we know the campaign will continue, just post multiple threads about a dear leader's handling of the crisis was amazing.

Very likely because of the medical system, death rates and health outcomes may be better here, but that's not the whole story. How and how fast did we turn our preparedness into action?

People keep telling me that the US has a much worse medical system than countries that have government controlled ones. What is the whole point of a medical system if not to reduced death rates and have better health outcomes?

US has one of the best medical systems, it's the healthcare system that fails, how many people will die because of this because they don't have health insurance, or feel they have to go to work, I mean yes the goverment has waved some of that I believe, but many won't know that, they will just know last time they went to the ER it cost them tons of money they couldn't afford.

The US had measures in place and Trump systematically failed to engage them. He dismissed the threat and allowed the virus to take hold here. While our system may have been well prepared, our actual response was a disaster. We had a President who ignored advice from medical leaders and instead lashed out at the "Democratic hoax", and told us it was all "very well under control", when it wasn't.

The US is reeling from this, and it's going to get much, much worse, largely due to Trump's response.

No one in the United States will die of covid-19 for lack of health insurance. Not one single person. If they end up dying due to their own ignorance, stubbornness, stupidity or because they have believed misinformation about how the system actually works and have not taken advantage of the social safety net because they have been falsely told it does not exist. , why blame the system that is so good it will garner better health outcomes and lower death rates. Why would anyone prefer a system that garnered higher death rates and worse health outcomes?

yeah those stupid people that don't want to go in for a cough to the hospital because if it's not covid 19 it will bankrupt them in any other situation. you realize how many people a year go bankrupt having to pay for healthcare in the us a year? Looks to be 500k around.

The problem isn’t ill preparedness. It’s an ineffective leadership that couldn’t rise to the task at the most crucial time early on. Now we’re playing catch up to the problem and hoping for the best outcome with what we’ve got.

Not what I would call the “best prepared” for this pandemic.

You lefties crack me up. Please tell us exactly which of the preparedness policies and procedures listed that we did not impliment? Which ones didn't we impliment during the recommended timelines according to our preparedness policies and procedures?

You sound like you know our preparedness policies and procedures. Perhaps you can share with us the exact ones Trump failed to impliment after being told what the procedure and policy said. Which ones did he fail to impliment in the timeline indicated in the policies and procedures?

It doesn’t matter what is implemented if the President of the United States is going around telling people not to worry, we got it “contained and under control” and there’s just a ‘few cases and then zero.’ “It’s the new hoax.” Naturally, people who listen to him aren’t going to take it as seriously as they probably should have early on when it mattered most what we did as a country.

Now we’re just playing catch up and hoping for the best.
