I have no words. See below from the LT Governor of Texas (from Yahoo).

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) seems to think that if given the choice, Americans 70 and over would be willing to risk getting coronavirus and possibly dying if it means stores re-open and the economy rebounds.

On Fox News Monday night, Patrick lamented not being asked how he would balance protecting some of the people most at-risk for contracting coronavirus — adults 65 and over — while keeping businesses up and running. "No one reached out to me and said, as a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren?" he said. "If that's the exchange, I'm all in."

The 69-year-old kept going, saying that "those of us who are 70 plus, we'll take care of ourselves, but don't sacrifice the country." This declaration "doesn't make me noble or brave or anything like that," Patrick said, "I just think there's lots of grandparents out there like me ... what we all care about and what we love more than anything are those children and I want to live smart and see through this, but I don't want the whole country to be sacrificed, and that's what I see."

Host Tucker Carlson asked Patrick for clarification, wanting to make sure he really was saying that "this disease could take your life, but that's not the scariest thing to you, there's something that would be worse than dying." Patrick paused, possibly realizing that he just volunteered as tribute in The Hunger Games: Coronavirus Edition, then responded, "Yeah."

I know a number of American's that feel the same way, though not for the same reasons.

I happen to not agree with them. This country has gone through such trials before and have returned to 'normal' activity after. I think people are being to short sighted.

Oh wow. It’s a little early for midsommar, but I suppose we ought to start making preparations now.

(I hope I’m not the only one here who’s seen that movie)

Sounds good to me. Heck, we could move the line to 65, that is where "Senior Citizens" start. Or even 64. But no more. Anything younger than 64 would be totally unreasonable.

Retirement isn't what it used to be.

While I have immense respect for the Inuit, who (in times of famine) would send their elders out on ice floes to preserve the younger people, I have my doubts whether the voters of TX will agree with a current implementation of this practice.

Yes, there are older people, and younger people, who would sacrifice themselves so ones they love can have better lives. There are older ones, for example, to shoot themselves so younger ones will not be busy with taking care of them. So, yes there can be a suicidal way that some think and feel.

And this can include how ones feel they are an unworthy burden for younger people.

But . . . as we grow in Jesus, God has us becoming more and more a resource of example and wisdom for the younger ones. So, our seasoned seniors in Jesus are a valuable resource worth much more than our lives and convenience.

But ones of this world have not grown up with this attitude. So, ones can fear old age, because of how others have made old age seem horrible and scary.

But the godly seniors can have wisdom which secular leaders and young ones do not have, for how to deal with this crisis.

So, instead of asking if older ones would be willing to die so you can have certain things, we might instead be willing to give up certain things, for the sake of our seniors. But this possibly can not be expected of worldly people and this world's system of how things are done > but as individuals, with each other in Jesus . . . we can discover all God has us do.

Well it's like the radical Islamic leader that was telling his followers to go out and blow themselves up for Ala. One little guy in the back raised his hand and when acknowledged he asked, "if this is such a good idea, why aren't you doing it?" Common sense seems to have no place in our government leadership these days.

In our church there is a couple in their 70s who have been raising their three grandsons for almost 10 yrs. There are a lot of grandparents raising their grandchildren. So if he wants to get sick and die he can have at it but many older people are still needed by their families.

My grandma is in her 70s & was retired but came OUT of retirement to help ppl out bc she was the head of nursing at a major university for decades & they need her back. So she came back. She's the one leading tons of ppl from 20s up to nearly her own age. A lot of ppl who are old are still doing big things.

That sounds good on paper or in the Ciber world but, in the future you know what the future is right, it's that thing you never think you will come to in your life but one day there you are smack dab in the middle of it and you know what has happened in the interim, the Society that you were a part of has now regenerated itself and you head is now on the chopping block at 40 yrs old. because people believe you do not serve any useful purpose and you eating food that could go to feed some guy 20 so he can work.

Nah don't think so.

If he feels so strongly about this he should set the example and just go get infected.

Put up or Shut up!

Don't wait for Legislation to do what you feel sooooo strongly about.

I believe what he is saying is that young people should not risk death caring for the old and frail who might fill up the emergency care system.

He is assuming that youth die from the virus equally, which is a false belief that has circulated.

Not what he was saying. What he was saying is that we should just get back to normal life, and quit killing the economy by trying to limit people's exposure. His idea is that the young will be fine, since the virus doesn't kill them, but many "old people" would "sacrifice" their lives to the virus for the good of the economy since they'd likely become exposed to the virus.

Of course, that ignores that young people still have severe cases, and that severe cases can permanently damage the lungs even if you die (even in young adults); even though they don't die. It also ignores that the hospitals would quickly fill (much like Italy) -- and would raise the death toll much higher than it needs to be.

No one at all would need to sacrifice their lives at all if certain members of our society, who are very few in number, and a great minority, would just be willing to do with a few less things or pennies comparatively, but, no, people, and many people who have very much more less, should all give their lives instead, if that's what it takes for the very few not to have to ever have to sacrifice anything at all...

Does no one see the insanity?

Well, hopefully with this little experiment, I hope we might or may very soon, but hopefully without the cost of our entire society, or too many individual peoples lives in general each individually.

And that is what they would be sacrificing themselves to preserve and/or keep, or "for", etc, an insane system, and a few in number very insane and uncompassionate people with no hearts who are full of extreme greed and/or selfishness to the point of insanity...

If anything, I hope that is what gets exposed and gets full exposure in all of "this", etc, but since they control everything, they will probably find ways to keep us and you all distracted and away from it, etc, or at the very least, from ever being able to do anything about it ever, at the very least, etc...

God Bless!

And this virus is not just an "old people virus" anyway, sure some people might be more vulnerable or weaker to it than others, but so far, we do not know why this is or what this is based on yet, but it's not just "age", etc, and that is also true of a lot of diseases or viruses also, so it's not that uncommon with this virus or any virus, etc, some are just naturally weaker to certain ones of them more so than others, etc, sure, older people are most often just naturally weaker or more susceptible, but that's true of any kind of disease or virus, and does not mean that all diseases and/or viruses are just "old people diseases and/or viruses" altogether, etc.

Anyway,

God Bless!

It's time the boomers died and gave up their property and cash so their kids can spent it on more frivolities. They've been hoarding money for too long while the rest have to contend with hoarding toilet paper.
