26 Then the Lord said to Moses, 27 “The tenth day of this seventh month is the day to be made free from sin. It will be a holy meeting for you. You will be without pride and give a gift by fire to the Lord.

28 “Do no work on this day. For it is a day to be made free from sin, to be made free from your sin before the Lord your God. 29 If there is any person who will not be free from his pride on this day, he will be kept away from his people. 30 Whoever does any work on this day, I will destroy from among his people. 31 Do no work at all. It is a Law forever for all your people in all your homes. 32 It will be a Day of Rest for you. And you must be without pride. You will keep your Day of Rest from evening until evening on the ninth day of the month.”
god of the past destroyed people for not resting

Hello @lambofgod43985889, yes, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is the highest of the Jewish holy days. Here's an interesting passage to compare/consider concerning Jesus, the Disciples, & rest from all of their work on the Sabbath .. Mark 2:23-28.

The idea that God is Holy and that his rules are to be obeyed is foreign to many people.
Both then in biblical times and today.

The Bible repeatedly says that God does not change. He is Holy.

Jesus made worship spiritual, there is nothing in what Jesus or the apostles said that implies that the Obedience we are to give to Jesus is anything other than literal.

As James put it, show me your spiritual with, I will show my literal faith by my actual real good works that include Obedience to the ten commandments.

St. James wrote of two different "kinds" of faith in his Epistle, one lively, and one dead.

One kind that 'results' in good deeds/holy living/agape for God, the brethren and others (IOW, in ~all~ of the things that accompany our salvation), and another kind that 'results' in nothing. IOW, St. James wrote of one kind of faith that saves, and of another kind that does not :preach:

God quickens/changes those of us who will be His, making us (who were "dead" spiritually) "alive" in Christ .. e.g. Ezekiel 36:26-27; John 3:3; Ephesians 2:1-5. And He makes us into wholly "new creatures" in Christ .. 2 Corinthians 5:17, as "His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for/unto good works", ~NOT~ because of them .. Ephesians 2:8-10.

Our new desires/lifestyle choices/obedience/good deeds, etc., are all outward 'expressions' of the changes (the salvation) that God wrought in us when He changed us (in all of us who are or who will be His children by adoption .. Ephesians 1:4-6). It is by these things (the things that ~accompany/result from~ our salvation) that we are able to "show" or demonstrate (both to ourselves and to others .. cf 2 Corinthians 13:5) that we have come to possess a lively, saving faith (rather than the "dead" faith of demons & CINO* .. James 2:19).

As St. James tells us plainly & seriously, but surely (to a certain degree) somewhat tongue in cheek, as well,

James 2
18 ~Show me~ your faith without the works, and I will ~show you~ my faith by my works.

Our works/our choices (what we do and say, and even how we think), tells others (and ourselves) who/what we really are, such that our "claim" of faith is either proven true ("justified")** before men .. James 2:24, or it is not!

--David

Titus 3
5 He saved us, ~not~ on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy.

* - CINO = Christian In Name Only
** - our faith must be demonstrated ("shown") and thereby proven true ("justified") before others and ourselves, NOT before God, because He (unlike us) is able to see the hearts of men.

Jesus said if you love me you will obey my commands.
Who do you think gave the ten commandments?
Do you obey Jesus?
The spiritual application of the tdn commandments is found in the sermon on the mount, again do you obey Jesus?
