Praying as a new Christian

Hi all,

When I pray, I mentions God all the time, and not so much the name Jesus.

If I'm correct, The Father, The Son, The holy spirit 3 in 1. Trinity.

So God, also mean Jesus, and visa versa.

So it's okay to just say God?

Personally I see God, as the Father, and Jesus, as the Son of God.

Advise please.

Try it both ways, and see which one works for you. If neither works, examine the scriptures and look for something else to try.

Sure. Jesus is God, just the same as the Father and the Holy Ghost. So you are in little danger of making a serious blunder here.

But it might be worth remembering that when people asked Jesus himself how they should pray, his answer was "Our Father, who art in heaven...."

He also taught that the Father was aware of all our needs and wants already but was just waiting to hear from us (in prayer, of course) and that there is nothing he would deny us.

All of this is why it is common for people to pray to the Father and end the prayer with "(I/we ask) in Jesus' name" or just add "in Jesus' name. Amen" to the end of the petition, whatever it is.

Just remember that our only access into His Presence is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

When Jesus was asked how to pray he gave us the Lord's Prayer. It's addressed to God, not Jesus. I think you're pretty safe in following that example.

It's also not wrong to pray to Jesus, of course.

As I read it, the example prayer is "Our Father, in heaven." But then, didn't Isaiah refer to the Prince of Peace as the Everlasting Father?

Yes. Is 9:6 refers to the birth of a king who would restore Israel. Originally it was obviously referring to Isaiah's time. In ancient tradition, the king could be referred to in exactly this way. (That "God" could be used of humans who are closely associated with God is acknowledged by Jesus himself in John 10:35) The passage is, quite reasonably, applied by Christians to Jesus, who is of course in a deeper sense the King who will reestablish God's people. (However I'm not aware that it's quoted in the NT in this sense.)

However Jesus refers to God as Father quite commonly, and surely isn't speaking of himself there. The Lord's Prayer is using "our father" in the way Jesus normally uses it.

Don't forget to plead the Blood of Jesus over yourself and your family. Pray Psalm 91 over yourself and your loved ones for protection especially in this day and age when all sorts of plagues, hatred and animosity are flying about all over the place.

You should know that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are equal. One is not higher than the other. How should you pray? Christ gave us a prayer that you can use or use as an example. Mathew 6:9-13 and also in other Gospels. The reason most prayers are not answered are due to lack of faith or asking for things not in line with what God has for you. What do you pray or what is the subject of your prayers. As a new question it would be great to pray for God to give you wisdom to understand Him and His word. Good place to start. Pray also for your life to be transformed. You should know that Jesus said the Lord knows your needs and if we seek His kingdom first, He will supply your needs. Mathew 6:33. Be consistent, be persistent and ask for God to change you into a person like Him.
