Hello @Not David, David here Like others above have already said, sin, whether in thought, in speech and/or in deed, is always an affront to God, who both lived and died as a man to save us from our sins.

That said, continually/knowingly/willfully rejecting Jesus as one's Lord and Savior is particularly offensive to God, and certainly brings with it the most dire of consequences. This was the very sin (the continual/willful rejection of Jesus as their Lord and Savior) of those 1st Century Jewish ~almost~ Christians who the author of Hebrews tells us about here .. Hebrews 10:26-31. For them, there no longer remained a sacrifice for their sins, only a terrifying expectation of judgment, because there was/is no other sacrifice for their sins (or ours) .. cf Acts 4:12.

Yes, not loving others as a Christian (IOW, in the sense that God Himself would love them) is sinful, and is therefore an affront to God (as all sin is). For instance:

Matthew 7
12 However you want people to treat you, so treat them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

1 Corinthians 13
6 Love .. does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth.

In Matt 7:12, the Lord tells us to always treat others as we would (at least) hope to be treated by them (and that without regard to how they have treated us in the past, or to how they are treating us in the moment ). "The Law and the Prophets" is code for whole of the "OT", so Jesus is also telling us that God's goal (behavioral-wise anyway) in giving us the OT is fulfilled when we choose to love others in this way

And St. Paul helps us with the specifics of/the ingredients (if you will) of love in 1 Corinthians 13. The example above, for instance, tells us that loving someone is something that we must do for their true and lasting good, that it is not something we do to simply make them "feel" good about themselves in the moment by tickling their ears with what they think they want to hear. (the latter, "ear tickling", is actually a form a hating others, not loving them)

See too Ephesians 4:15.

Loving others as God loves us is not a natural thing for us (as we are "by nature" selfish, "children of wrath" .. Ephesians 2:1-3), but God enables those of us who are/who will become His children by adoption .. e.g. Ephesians 1:4-6 to act in this manner towards others, by quickening and changing us .. e.g. Ezekiel 36:26-27; John 3:3, Ephesians 2:4-5, by justifying/saving us .. e.g. John 5:24; Romans 10:9-10, and then by sanctifying us/growing us up in Christlikeness, from here to Glory .. Philippians 1:6; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24. Growing in our love for God and for others is the one of principle things that sanctification is all about/needed for.

Yes, justice/righteousness demands it. Which is why the Greatest Commandments are what they are incidentally.
