That doesn’t answer my question at all.

it’s difficult to understand all the verses that talk about not sinning, when everyone sins and “he who says he is without sin is a liar and the truth is not in him.”

It’s fun to wax poetic about being free from sin and quote verses that talk about resisting temptation, but what does it MEAN in real life? I believe all these verses are referring to our freedom from the consequences of sin because Christ paid the price, and us no longer being identified with and defined by our sin because we have our identity in Christ. This is the only way to look at these verses because all men sin daily, period. No matter how much you focus and meditate on freedom in Christ and overcoming sin, you WILL sin, until you die and are raised in a new body.
You are wrong. But until your hunger for the free indeed Christ promised us overtakes your contentment with the status quo, things will remain as they are.

God has more for us. The question, as we approach the great malestrom of evil about to be unleashed upon a world with no answers, is not if a man can stop sinning, but if God is able to so change and free a man, that he simply can say no whwn tempted.

blessings to you,

Gids

What you have to understand is that here he is saying that those who say they have no sin when they have sinned are those who he's talking about. He isn't saying that everyone who says they have no sin is a liar. Sometimes we really don't sin. It is at the times when we try to justify ourselves even though we've done something wrong that we lie to ourselves and God.

It’s fun to wax poetic about being free from sin and quote verses that talk about resisting temptation, but what does it MEAN in real life? No matter how much you focus and meditate on freedom in Christ and overcoming sin, you WILL sin, until you die and are raised in a new body.

If you sin, you are essentially one of the "sons of disobedience" and won't inherit the kingdom, having once been saved or not. That's why the importance of John's letter. He said that God is light and there is no darkness in him. Those who sin, take themselves out of the light, out of fellowship with God. But there is a remedy for that if we, rather than lie to ourselves and say we do not have to suffer any consequences for sinning or that we haven't actually sinned when we have sinned, we confess our sin. And he is faithful to forgive us.

The gospel wasn't good news because it allowed us to "sin so that grace may abound." It was good news because to receive atonement for our sin, we were not required to continuously offer sacrifices every time we sinned. And, this remission was now offered to all people. One sacrifice was made for all.

No where does it say we can continue in sin and expect to inherit the kingdom. We clean up our mess and then move forward in Christ if indeed we put ourselves in Christ as instructed.

I have never seen the 10 virgins as being the church, the virgin (single) bride of Messiah. And if one knows of the traditional Hebrew marriage of the 1st Century, when the groom comes for the wedding feast, He comes with His Bride, not for His bride.

When He comes for His bride, He calls her out of where she lives and she joins Him to go into the marriage chamber that He has prepared and they consummate the marriage. Then they exit the wedding chamber 7 days later and the wedding feast then happens. During their time in the chamber is when the wedding guest make themselves ready for the wedding feast.

The 10 virgins may be viewed as Bridesmaids if one so chooses, but not the bride.

Which places us on the slippery slope of how many works are required?
According to the parable of the talents, more will be expected of those who have received more, and that is as much as we can determine from the parable. According to the parable of the sheep and the goats, it comes down to acting when the need presents itself. As the Epistle of James states, we need to be doers of the Word and not hearers only.
The slippery slope is only in your imagination.

7 days in the wedding chamber!

That is the traditional, 1st Century Hebrew marriage ritual.

The Groom comes to the potential brides home. He offers the Ketubah (marriage contract) to the bride. They seal the contract with a cup of wine. He then pays the bride price for His bride, then he returns to his father's place to prepare the marriage chamber.

If anyone asks him when the wedding will be, he is to respond "only my father knows", since he is not allowed to go get his bride until the father approves of the wedding chamber.

He then comes for his bride and He calls out for her. She then leaves her home and joins with Him and they return to the wedding chamber to consummate the marriage for 1 week.

That week is the preparation for the wedding feast. The couple emerges and they they return and celebrate the wedding feast with the guests.

A true perfect picture of the Messiah and His Bride. Everything from His coming to establish the contract, seal it with wine at the last supper, pay the price for His bride via His death on the cross, He returns to prepare a place for Him and His Bride, He comes for her and they meet outside her home (in the air) and they return to the Chupah (wedding chamber) He has prepared. They are together for 7 days (7 years of the week of Daniel?) and then they both return for the wedding feast.

Amen. Please explain to me why they were found beating on the now closed door to Heaven. There is a lesson there if we are open to learning it.

Gids

Only the unwise beat on the door. And Jesus replied that he never knew them because they were unprepared for his coming. When it was time to enter the feast, they were still trying to find oil for their lamps, which had burned out. Because they were burned out, they had no light. "God is light and there is no darkness in him."

I keep asking you this but, where is your evidence of the 'great malestrom of evil?'

The world has gone through extremely EVIL times since humanity began.
Brother, I am not how old you are, but I am 70. I grew up to Leave It to Beaver and I love Lucy. Yes, there has always been evil but in the world, fbutcas we approach the final days, when Satan knows he has but a short time, he will unleash holy hell upon the earth. Hitler's evil will be childsplay.

When I was in college, I did a paper on overpopulation. At that time, we were sitting at a bit over 3 billion souls, with the expected doubling rate at 30 years. Right on cue, we are now currently sitting at almost 8 billion souls, all wanting the basics others have... clean water, ample food, a safe place to raise a family, and throw in a car and a tv.

In 2050, should the Lord tarry, we will be at 15-16 billion hungry, angry starving souls. Several cities, including Johannesburg, will run totally out of ground water within three years... 10 million plus souls. We are destroying the earth with our selfishness, and our solution? Let's move to Mars!

I cannot make any see the precariousness of our situation. And just as Jesus predicted, His own church will be saying "Chill! It has always been this way." No, it has not. And if we do not like the way things are today, we better hang onto our hats and seek the face of the Father. There is a place of safety, but it requires we lose OUR life and we cannot do that till we first hate it.

The world hate put the doomsday clock at two minutes to midnight. It simply boggles the mind that God's beloved are often so in love with their own life that they cannot see what is plainly on the horizon. The world sees it. Stress and unsecurity is rampant. How is it possible that God's own children cannotcseecwhst is right in front of their face?

It is simply a matter of connecting the dots, but the first dot is.... we must lose our lives to find them. Once that dot is taken care of, all the others will fall into place.

Blessings,

Gids

"The Will of the Father." The slumbering virgins, IMO lacked the Holy Spirit connection. They finally understood that the Holy Spirit was essential for them to enter into The Kingdom of God. This is why they begged the others for the Oil , the Holy Annointing Oil, now represented through the Holy Spirit. Even though the other virgins told them to go and buy some, the oil they purchased was inferior. No connection to The Father.
Christ said these word a few times , " I never knew you". Look it up. It has nothing to do with sin and everything to do with the Holy Spirit anointing, For even those who did mighty works and deeds were rejected by Him. Matthew 7:21

Since time immorial people have been saying the end is near though. Nobody knows when.

Jesus said to His apostles "This generation". I believe Jesus. 70AD was the end when the Romans laid the Temple waste.

If you sin, you are essentially one of the "sons of disobedience" and won't inherit the kingdom, having once been saved or not. That's why the importance of John's letter.

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me.
Romans 7:15-23

either you are greater than Paul or you still have sin inside you waging war against your new identity in Christ. I fear that anyone who says they do not sin is a liar and the truth is not in them, because that is what the scripture teaches.

Paul was explaining how one's conscience works. Once you sin, you have conditioned yourself, by the feeling of satisfaction that occurs when you sin, to sin again and to desire that feeling of satisfaction again. Now you have this problem where your flesh is at war with your mind which knows this disobedience is harmful. It is the ceasing of sin which resolves this problem because the conscience is no longer conditioned to desire what you've already given it. Our beginning as Christians wipes out all of the past sin we've done and starts us fresh again. At that moment we are in fact perfect, not because of our perfect obedience but because of what our obedience accomplished through Christ.

To say that there are times that I don't sin is not to claim perfection. We're called to repent and refrain from sin. Paul didn't say that it was impossible not to sin. In fact he often admonished people not to sin, indicating that it was entirely possible. I do wonder though why you think you know me so well that you claim to know I've been sinning.

Our actual condition should be to refrain from sin. We are called to repent and to flee from temptation. We are told we've been given all off the tools to do this. If I wasn't doing that in my life, it would be ridiculous to claim I was a Christian.

But John did not say that a person who claims he has no sin lies. When you have no sin you aren't telling a lie if you say you have no sin. He was saying that those who had sin and said they didn't were lying. He was teaching against a common belief taught in those days that it was ok to continue sinning.

If you're going to read scripture with such a lack of sublety, then you also have to accept that John also told us it was impossible for us to sin because we were Christians. That conclusion misses the mark just as yours which says we are always sinning. If we're always sinning then we're always disobeying God. Sin is disobedience to God. That's what it is. Nowhere are we told that doing so is impossible. Were it impossible, God would not be a just God who made it impossible and then said he'd hold us accountable for the very sin we can't avoid.

"For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

"So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin."

"Do not admit a charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three witnesses. As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear."

We are called not to sin. It's not a crime when a person says he does his best not to sin because that's what he's expected, nay commanded to do.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is given to the obedient.

Acts 5
32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

If this parable is indeed tied to the Holy Spirit in some way, what we're being told then is that the 5 unwise virgins who became betrothed to Christ, lacked obedience. Had they continued to obey, then their lamps would have been full of oil and their wicks trimmed.

I suppose we are at an impasse: you believe you and other Christians are sinless; and I believe that you are not. Good luck with that when you fall later today or tomorrow and have an impure thought or act in anger or pride, or any of the other thousand sins all humans commit constantly.
