What's the relationship with Blagojevich?

His wife was smart enough to go on FOX and say nice things about the president.

In May 2018, Patti appeared on Fox News and linked her husband's situation to Trump, stating that Comey and Mueller had also "perverted the law against my family."

The next month, in another Fox News appearance, she said the "same people" who "went after" her husband were "going after" Trump now.

"They are trying to undo elections and play politics instead of doing what they are supposed to do," she said. "It takes a strong leader like President Trump to right these wrongs."

'I saw his wife on television': Trump commuted Blagojevich's prison sentence after his wife attacked Comey and Mueller on Fox News

It was enough for him to bring Omarosa to the White House.

It's o_O o_O o_O to me that anybody would think that Blagojevich having been on the Apprentice is a "weak connection" to Trump bc of that reason & so many more.

I mean another thing is bc he wants as much positive praise as he can get from the Apprentice ppl since so much of it is so v negative. He made them all sign NDAs but some found ways around that & have talked anyways about the OTT craziness. They've said he abused Adderall on the set, that led to him having wild rages & fecal incontinence. Then the allegations of racism, sexism, nastiness, vanity. He wants Blagojevich to counterbalance that negativity.

As I recall, this President promised to drain, not pardon, the swamp!

Presidents promise a lot of stuff, dont they? The reality is, these pardons are in linenwith what other presidents have done. I cant stand trump, but the partisan reaction to everything he does, is childish.

You don't see the pattern?

I am amazed how much power the USA system gives to one person.

That person can pardon whoever they want at their sole discretion.
That person can create executive orders for whatever they want at their sole discretion.
That person can fire Justice officials, FBI, CIA etc
That person can nominate their own handpicked judges including any judges that might be involved in any criminal investigations or trials against themselves or their friends.
That person can appoint the head of the Justice system (AG) and can fire the head of the Justice system.
That person can hire and fire all ambassadors and foreign policy officials.
That person can try and out whistleblowers with no repercussions on themselves.
That person can fire or remove any person who testifies against themselves.
That person can instruct Executive members to not comply to subpoenas, to not testify and to not provide documents or evidence.
That person cannot be indicted.
In the history of US that person/position has never been impeached AND removed from office.

Does anyone see a problem?

Actually a British-style parliamentary system, such as I believe your country has, gives considerably more power to the Prime Minister than the US Constitution gives to the President.

On paper, yes -- but the flaw in the US system is that it assumes that the other two branches of government will check the chief executive's power -- not enable it.

The American system assumes that Congress would act independently of the President, which isn't what happens anymore.

The members of Congress belong to those political parties. They can lose their jobs and careers if they disobey their boss.

As far as I understand it, my Prime Minister cannot pardon criminals on their own. A pardon needs to be voted on by many people.

If we have a rouge (or unpopular) Prime Minister then the party can have an internal coup and elect an alternative leader (Prime Minister). This happened when Shipley replaced Bolger.

Clemency in NZ can only be granted by the Governor General who does so on the advice of the Minister of Justice.

Sure. And members can lose their jobs for not carrying out their Constitutional duty as well. We'll see in November what AMericans actually value...

How Power Changes Hands

"Bolger first learned of the developing challenge upon his return from a Commonwealth heads of state meeting on a Saturday. Shipley met with Bolger the next day, claimed to have the support of a majority of her colleagues and promised to force a leadership vote when the parliamentary caucus next met early that week. Bolger accepted defeat and made a deal that very day with Shipley that he would immediately announce his resignation as party leader to take effect some weeks later..."

It actually is. They might not be able to take whatever actions they like, but they certainly do things independent of the president. They investigated the president himself independently of him. They did the impeachment hearings and trial independently. And those are just a couple things they've done not only independent of the president, but against him.

The Senate only held the trial because they had no choice under Senate rules. But the Majority Leader literally said that the majority's position and the President's position is going to be the same. And that's not limited to Republicans. Democrats are almost as bad. The simple fact is, Congress does most of it's law making in support of a President who is the same party as the respective majorities or against a president who's of the other party. Very seldom do they cooperate with teh other side or go against their side.
