hint: we are not talking about the judicial branch - we are talking about the legislative branch and the fact that the AG "derives its authority" from the President - for whom it serves. No wonder Holder was claiming to be "Obama's wing man"

Even Barr had already agreed that the sentence in Stone's case "was extreme" in a meeting held the day before "a tweet was seen" by fake news outlets

Barr said this on video regarding the timeline - and of course -- I would hope no one is spying on the AG to surveil those meetings ... so we have his word at this point.

from: AG Barr says DOJ went behind his back on Stone sentencing – here’s his claim

Barr indicated he supported Stone’s conviction, but told prosecutors to “defer to the discretion of the judge” for sentencing. He said the prosecutors instead disobeyed that directive and filed a sentencing memo seeking the sentence of up to nine years.

“At the end of the day we deferred to [the judge], and that was what the approach was I thought we were going to take,” Barr said.

When news reports first appeared last week indicating prosecutors would seek a sentence of up to nine years, Barr said he thought it was just spin by the news media.

“When I first saw the news reports, I said ‘gee, the news is spinning this. This is not what we were going to do,'” Barr said. “I was very surprised.”

Barr said once he was able to confirm the media reports of a nine-year sentencing recommendation as accurate, he immediately told his staff to prepare to amend the sentencing request by the following morning.

The Attorney General said his efforts to correct the sentencing guidelines, which he felt were excessive for the Stone’s crimes, were complicated by a critical tweet from President Trump.

“This is a horrible and very unfair situation,” Trump said, before calling the sentencing a “miscarriage of justice.”

This is a horrible and very unfair situation. The real crimes were on the other side, as nothing happens to them. Cannot allow this miscarriage of justice! Chuck Ross on Twitter

Barr said he was already working to revise the sentencing recommendation when he became aware of Trump’s tweet.

“I don’t look at tweets. I don’t read tweets, unless they are brought to my attention,” Barr said.

Keven McCarthy: "“ the president’s not interfering, because if you listen to the Department of Justice, they made the decision before the tweet ever went out. Attorney General Barr is coming before the committee as well, but there’s no issue here,”

Oh give me a break. Barr was made to look like a sycophantic fool by Trump and now we suddenly hear that ‘Oh no, we had a super secret meeting where we’d already made the decision and gosh I never read Twitter anyway so I couldn’t POSSIBLY have heard the president wanted something different!’.

You actually believe this nonsense? A 5 year old could come up with a more convincing excuse after being caught in a pile of crumbs with chocolate all over their face for why they definitely didn’t eat the cookies.

Because the constitution states that anytime the President and someone in his cabinet agree on something then the cabinet office-holder looks like a sycophantic fool??

Or did you mean that as an emotional argument not a fact about the government?

Would Barr making the statement that his goal is to be "President Trump's wing man" -- have given you a better feeling about how the Executive branch operates?

Or what if after Sessions left - Trump had said "I would really prefer a family member - like a sibling preferably my brother Robert - as my AG but I guess I can settle for a non-family member". Would that provide the emotional calm and comfort that some people are searching for on this topic?

Oh no wait! - John F. Kennedy already did have his brother Robert as his AG. Ok so scratch that -- there is no way Democrats or Republicans will go for that with Trump.

He looks like a sycophantic fool because as soon as Trump tweeted about something he immediately made the DoJ change it’s advice to the court. He could not have looked any more weak, craven and pathetic if he’d tried.

Not to those who agree with his decision to reduce the sentence to something reasonable as defined by the standards already set by the justice department. Reason... not emotion will always win the day in the long run.

So then not an emotional bit of data - but a fact none the less.

So then... facts

Nobody whining about Barr's actions has given a quote from him saying "yes that is it! nine years... PERFECT!" that is then followed by "oops! Now that the President tweeted how about a lesser sentence"...

Not one voice of complaint - has such a bit of data "in real life"... so at best what we have is "the President and one of his Cabinet members AGREE on something..... how awful!!".

Now as a person who did not vote for Trump -- I still have to say - that common sense should rise to the surface on these obvious simple items. Voting for his opponent does not mean we must also lose our ability to admit to simple facts.

Trump supporters gave up on reason a long time ago, and exchanged it for blind sycophancy.

As for Barr, that’s a perfect example of you guys trying to twist something that happened right in front of people’s noses, to try and convince us that we didn’t actually see what we just saw. Let me make this simple for you..

-Barr’s DoJ told the court they wanted 7-9 years for Stone
-Trump tweets this is unfair
-Barr orders his DoJ to change their advise to the court to a lower sentence

It’s not complicated, and we all saw it happen. And no they aren’t going to be able to claim some secret meetings happened which mean Barr isn’t really a Trump bootlicker.

Robert Kennedy was a lawyer who had worked in the Justice Department. Robert Trump is a real estate guy - do you really think that is the same? The first Robert qualified on his own merits while the second one decidedly does not.

Of course, Jared Kushner isn't exactly over-qualified for his position, but he does seem to make deals on the side to benefit his family's companies.

This President was supposedly elected on a promise that he intended to hold the Washington elites to a higher moral standard than previous administrations - Trump said that he would drain the swamp, not pardon it!!
Well, he also said that Mexico would pay for the wall and that he'd repeal Obamacare. At this point, either you understand that he's not going to keep his promises or you just don't care.
