I can’t wait for the folks praising these acts to start complaining when they see someone that abides by “stop snitching.” It’s legal, so they have no right to complain.

Yeah, whatabout, them? ;)

Does anyone think any of the pardons are viable? Walt a sec? of course you don't, and would that happen to have anything at all to do with the fact it is Trump cutting them loose as opposed to someone you might like doing the pardons? And what if was one of your Moms doing an 18yr stint for allowing their home to be used for selling coke? would you all defend the pardon then, regardless who the president was?

Unbelievable how we sometimes don't even know our own selves, and how hypocritical we are.

What?? No drug dealers like his predecessor?

I suppose selling a US Senate seat doesn't bother you conservatives as much as selling drugs, but then, the GOP hasn't had any claim to ethics or morality in a good 40 years.

Well, these are not longtime friends of the president, so that faux outrage is out the window. It appears he felt that the sentences of these people were out of synch with the severity of the offenses.
Correct. The sentence for selling a senate seat should have been execution.

There--in that quote of mine--I had no one in particular in mind. What I said in that selection was based on the familiar line all of us have heard coming from people who constantly vilify the president, no matter what he does.

Totally understand. It is very uncommon to be spoken to in a polite manner. It's kind of confusing.

My apologies for not having chosen my wording better.

Not at all a problem. No offense taken.

Well, you know that most of the recent presidents have pardoned many more people than this, but they usually do it a couple of days before they leave office. I am guessing that, with these particular individuals, Trump thought that waiting until the November election was over with would be unnecessarily cruel.

I went to the DOJ Office of Pardon Attorney website, and it seems Trump is rather active concerning this duty. Whereas I can see as an example Obama sat down and mass processed hundreds in huge blocks. Like January 19th 2017, hundreds upon hundreds in the same day. No way he sat there and went thru that many cases.

The most I saw with Trump is 5 in one day. It would seem Trump actualy devoted time to this. At least that is the appearance.

Trump grants clemency to 11, including former junk bond king Michael Milken

President Trump Tuesday granted full pardons to seven convicted felons including Michael Milken, the former junk bond king who became a face of the insider trading financial scandals of the 1980s.

Trump also commuted the sentence of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, found guilty nine years ago for trying to sell an open U.S. Senate seat.

Trump announced the news at Joint Base Andrews as he embarked on a four-day west coast swing and just hours after the White House announced the first pardon, that of former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward DeBartolo, Jr., who was convicted in a gambling fraud scandal.

He said he also commuted the prison sentence of former New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who led the department after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and was sentenced to four years in prison in 2010 after pleading guilty to eight felony charges, including tax fraud and lying to investigators.

Trump also issued full pardons to Ariel Friedler, Paul Pogue, David Safavian and Angela Stanton. And he commuted sentences for three others: Tynice Nichole Hall, Crystal Munoz and Judith Negron.

The mass clemency continued a run of brazen actions by the president to intercede in matters of law and order following his Senate acquittal on articles of impeachment.

The president made clear he has not ruled out pardoning Roger Stone, who is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday.

I'm sure Roger got the message.
The President is kindly disposed toward those that are like-minded.

You may have a point, but the issue here concerned Trump's motivation, not that of anyone else.
His motivation is to take care of these unfortunate criminals. He feels their .. ummm... pain. Yes, that’s it.

Apparently this President never tires of creating circumstances whereby his supporters are continuously expected to justify the unjustifiable!

Having demonstrated that he has the Republican Senate securely under his thumb nullifying their constitutional check on his powers, perhaps Trump is now sending a not too subtle message to the judiciary that he is also prepared to effectively bypass their authority whenever it suits his purposes!

And yet like an abused spouse, his supporters keep defending him.

Because they were all processed/stamped and dated on the same day doesn't mean they were all reviewed, chosen, and the paperwork done all on that same day. It's more likely that they were reviewed and chosen over a matter of weeks. It's also likely that aides are the first to go through them with a list of requirements they are looking for before the President makes the final choices.

This is a hobby, you know. It's a discussion board.

There wouldn't be any felt need to dismantle misleading or defective claims if this were real life. :)

If "misleading" and/or "defective claims" were grounds for dismissal from this discussion board, the supporters of a President who has repeatedly claimed that he would built a border wall for which Mexico would pay, would find themselves cast out into digital darkness!

Democrats are like minded?

Blagojevich is Democratic
Anyone who disagrees with this President are has been labelled "human scum," his words, not mine!

If Democrats thought that Blagojevich was worthy of a pardon, one would have expected it to come from Obama, not Trump!

He's warming up, once he has pardoned Stone his devotees can all say 'uh but he pardoned a democrat too, so clearly he's not biased' (etc). I'd say he plays them like a fiddle, but it takes discipline to learn to play the fiddle. Maybe he plays them because that's how he rolls is more accurate.

I'm not outraged. Not even being accusatory. I just do not agree with letting these individuals out of prison at this point in time. I do not yet understand the motive or reasoning behind it. Anytime, a President starts messing around with convicted felons I'm going to ask questions.

I think you’re right for asking....hey, there’s a first: me agreeing with you :)

All of the pardons were for crimes regarding corruption of some form. I think there’s a clear message....if you are a corrupt person (Hi Roger...!) and you play ball by me, I’ll look after you...

Well thanks. I just don't like it. Never have. There are exceptions in more extreme cases, but I never liked the idea of letting felons out just because you feel 'thusly'. Yeah, some guy/gal is in death row falsely accused. Railroaded individuals? No problem. I'm good with that. But this? A least let it go to an appeals court.

Why be so supperfical about it tho? If you suspect Trump is doing something, dig! Accusations have been slung around for years now. I want to see the actual crimes if they can be presented. Trust me, I do look.
