More specifically, I'm looking for Bible commentaries whose authors were not heavily influenced by the colonizers. Ancient texts will work, but they're not preferable.

Suggestions?

Note: Speaking of colonialism's influence, I'm including even modern societies which were heavily influenced by it. Put another way: Colonialism should not be in the lineage of the author's upbringing.

I'd suggest checking out the work of David Rosenberg and John Walton. They both delve a lot into the origins of the bible, the historical and literary context and so on.

I didn't look at Walton, but Rosenberg got his doctorate in the U.K., which is about as affected by the colonizers as one can be. Am I missing something?

You might be? You can find out by reading his work.

Point of clarification.

Who were the colonizers, and how did they affect the Commentaries we have. ...ie Matthew Henry.

Besides, anyone who would read a Commentary and believe that what the person was saying was Gospel, needs to begin all over again and only read the Bible.

Reading 1 or many Commentaries for comparison, should only be done for some specific point of clarification on a specific point of belief held by the person reading said Commentaries.

Incredible derail attempt.

John Chrysostom.
Does colonialism include the Byzantine Empire? How about commentaries from the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East? I don't know of any. Otherwise, try OO commentaries.

Then we have to ask if the Roman Empire is included in colonialism, which rules out the bible itself. :)

I took the OP to mean European colonialization during the age of exploration.

This is whats confusing about the question as a whole, for even the Jews who were the disciples and apostles were affected by colonization... and the new testament in largest part is commentary on the old in the light of the Messiah...

So you've nothing that's not in some form affected by colonization for even the old testament Jews were affected by time spent in Babylon etc.

Being affected both negatively and positively by the culture around us is part of the human experience. Thing is, we can also see how we are transformed by Christ in that too.

Like Paul washer once said:

"Prior to the advent of Christianity, western culture meant we were a bunch of tribal people living in Northern Europe running around naked painting ourselves blue and eating one another. That's western culture. So what changed western culture? The advent of Christianity."

Considering that pretty much everybody was a colonizer, or was colonized at some point, or both, I reckon you've ruled out every commentary ever written by a human being.

Why?
In what way have you seen that being a cityzen of a country with a history of colonialism has affected there theology?
Are you implying that all here have suspect beliefs about God because of our countries history?

You understood correctly. Of course other nations have colonized, but "colonialism" standardly refers to the period you spoke of.
