In addition to an asteroid, "Wormwood" may refer to a space station orbiting the earth and containing a large volume of biochemical weapons. If the space station fell to earth the weapons would be released and distributed over a large area of the earth. Wormwood doesn't refer to nuclear weapons since they have no taste. The name "wormwood" would be assigned to this object only after the impact which causes the large number of deaths by poison.
