There's many questioning just why these Democratic politicians saw the need as a whole group to walk the Articles of Impeachment over to the Senate. I understand Republicans did the same back in 1998 but why the need for a big show? Don't they know at least NOW about email? Fax machines? So they see a need to have the air waves filled for a couple of days portraying what some call the walk of shame?

Maybe they really had a concern that if just one of them did so they might get cold feet change their mind and throw them in the trash? At least if one did so the others can pull them out of the can and continue? For those who oppose Democratic politicians for impeaching the President and when they seek re-election perhaps the best thing to tell them would be, "Sorry but go take a walk!"

Politicians rise and fall based on silly moments like that. I don’t fault them for trying to spin impeachment as something the American people want even though we obviously don’t.

Still, I think it would’ve been lulzy if McConnell had said he wouldn’t take up impeachment in an election year. You know, just to troll the Democrats.

It's the political equivalent of a liturgical procession. I'm surprised the didn't have incense.

I've always believed that. Many times it's not the big things that lead to election defeats but sometimes what's considered as a little seemingly inconsequential items. Things like the Democratic politicians saying it's a sombre moment for the nation and turning right around a few weeks later and saying with glee with a smile on the face words like, "Yeah impeachment is forever!" They may as well put a sign around the neck with the words for all to see, "I am not sincere or consistent!"

Their media supporters though herald them as great political strategists. Their actions however reveal different as to have not even come out of the little league of those which aren't.

why the need for a big show?

That's all the whole pathetic affair has been - a "Big Show". Here's hoping the Senate doesn't put on a "Big Show" of their own before trashing the whole thing.

In other words, when the republicans did this for Bill Clinton, it was "preserving the dignity of the law", but when democrats did it for Donald Trump, it's a "big show." This is as much about the hypocrisy of republicans as it is about Trump's crimes.

And the most current poll shows most Americans want Trump removed:

Now, 69% of Americans think witnesses and new evidence should be presented in the trial. Republicans can probably defy what Americans think, and hide witnesses and evidence, but the last time they did that, it was a disaster in the next elections.

That'd probably lead them to start claiming again, "See there! We told you this was all about the children!" In other words for the generations to come.

And we have "Exhibit A."

When it comes to at least my OP I acknowledged the Republicans did so as well. I called it a show.

It's an historic event, of interest to the public. That's how it works.
Well if the Democratic politicians lose the next election and the House I suppose when they go back watching this film I don't doubt they'll probably be saying how they wish they could go back in time and walk the other way. The Republicans might be able to say then though, (maybe with a smile on their faces like Pelosi had when talking about Impeachment) "Sorry but that walk lasts forever! Nope, no going back to change it!"

Well if the Democratic politicians lose the next election and the House

The last time a party defied public opinion on impeachment (the public was solidly against removing Clintion, even more than they now favor removing Trump) that party took a beating in the next elections. So it doesn't seem very likely right now.

As Donald Trump’s impeachment trial gets underway in the Senate, a new CNN poll offers the president and his party very little in the way of encouraging news.

About half of Americans say the Senate should vote to convict President Donald Trump and remove him from office in the upcoming impeachment trial (51%), according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, while 45% say the Senate should vote against conviction and removal.

Nearly seven in 10 (69%) say that upcoming trial should feature testimony from new witnesses who did not testify in the House impeachment inquiry.

Even a plurality of Republican voters agree that the Senate should consider new information from witnesses – a position the White House and most GOP lawmakers now oppose.

As for me I don't trust a poll that comes out with a 51% number for CNN. Seems too convenient right before a trial. And keep in mind the idea that seven in 10 would like to hear from new witnesses....you should acknowledge that a lot of them would like to hear too the Biden story not just things about Trump. They want to hear the President's justification for even mentioning Biden and was he right to do so. And a lot would like to see Mr Schiff on the stand.

Did he engage in a conflict of interest? Maybe good questions would be what type of witnesses would these people like to see.....it's probably roll them all out not just what the Democratic politicians desire. As for this new star witness they think they have.....you know that guy is indicted right now with various charges.....if the Democratic politicians insist on him you should know it might be the most counterproductive thing they've ever done to advance their cause. They might want to be careful what they hope for.

As for me I don't trust a poll that comes out with a 51% number for CNN.

That's the nature of facts. No matter what you think of them, they're still facts. Real Clear Politics, which averages all polls, right, left, and middle, said prior to this poll...

47.3 remove 47.5 don't remove
RealClearPolitics - Election Other - Trump Impeachment and Removal From Office: Support/Oppose

So it's not going Trump's way. The real reason that democrats want witnesses and the most recent evidence, and republicans oppose those things, is because it will put the facts out in front of the American people if they aren't covered up by rules preventing them.

But a cover-up has its own risks:
WASHINGTON – As senators argue over how to conduct the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump, a majority of Americans say introducing new evidence should be allowed, according to a poll released Tuesday.

In a Monmouth University poll taken before the trial got underway, 57% of respondents say House managers should be able to present new evidence. Thirty-seven percent say they should be limited to evidence that was revealed as part of the impeachment inquiry in the House.
...
Fifty-six percent of independents support allowing new evidence.
