What are some things you are doing to further your career?

I have been a Certified Nursing assistant since 2013 and I am FINALLY going back to school for the LPN to RN program. Starting school next week. At 35 I’m a little nervous going back, but I got this! God is great!

Fashion design enables me to forge connections with people in the echelons of society who may never enter a church.

That’s awesome!

I work as a hospice aid. I’ve worked in rehab centers and skilled nursing facilities, but hospice is where my heart is at.

I tried to rekindle my interest in medicine but He didn’t support it. Setting it aside was very difficult.

I hope nursing brings you untold joy and numerous opportunities to reach the needy for His glory. :)

The only things I'm doing to further my life is resting and waiting on Him. I know that doesn't make sense. But the things I'm going to accomplish in life can't come by other ways. Otherwise other people or even myself might try to take credit for it.

I mean further your career. Even Jesus had job. I don’t know guess I’m confused by your answer. Are you retired? Jobless?

What was Jesus' job?

FYI, I do day labor and collect a social security check for schizophrenia. The only reason I post the latter is because it will only add to the mystery and astonishment of what and where God is going to elevate me to one day. The boast is of the Lord; not of myself.

Jesus’ was a carpenter and was referred to as a rabbi by many once he began his ministry. So yeah I would say he did lol.

And I don’t know, I think boasting about how what you do might make you better than someone else would be boasting. The point of the thread was to see if anyone was trying to further their career, to be more successful. Especially coming into the new year. I have been in the same job position for the last 7 years and am finally taking the next step. Not just through prayer but through the encouragement of peers in and out of the Church. I’m the type that boasts about the blessings God has given me.

*sigh* Yes, I agree. If I boasted about being better than anyone then that would be wrong. God speed with the steps you're taking then. Personally, I've recently watched two different people share their story about going from nothing to something. And I find watching and hearing stories of people talk about how they came up and became successful very encouraging.

I don't particularly plan on spending too much of my time working on someone else's dream (I'm glad they have theirs, but...) so my primary focus is to wedge out my own spot and slot myself into it. It has nothing to do with money, ego or power, it's ALL to do with promoting authenticity and fearlessness through multiple forms of subliminal messaging.

Part of my goal is jump start a revolution. Not through rioting in the streets or by idiots playing guitars in the park, but through consciousness and thought. I think there IS a way. But there needs to be a huge incentive to pull people away from the television, social media and dating apps - firstly, you need to give people something BETTER to grab their attention; something they've never seen before that goes beyond the mind.

Perhaps I'm nothing more than a nutcase, I guess time will tell. It'll be fun working on my various projects none the less.

So while you are working towards creating this revolution, what do you do for a living?

There are many forms of employment. We each have something of merit to contribute to the kingdom. Whether that includes work outside the home, in the church, self-employment or in the lives of others. Everyone is needed.

I am trying to figure out where God wants me to go next as a nurse. I am currently looking for a new position. Hoping it won't be as abusive as some of the ones I have had. I needed a change and am curious on where God is going to send me next. I have applications for a number of positions that I qualify for and am interested in and am waiting to see where God wants me. If I was to chose, I think the NICU is the one I hope for the most (not so sure about the hospital though)...but I have a variety of interest and the positions I have applied for vary between research, psych, patient education, and bedside nursing.

Yeah I get that. Everyone has a role to play in society especially as Christians. Still though when I worked at a low paying job barely being able to pay my electric bill, having very little or no money left over I realized that WHAT we do for ourselves is important. The difference between us and non-believers is the fact that we have spiritual guidance. Now if someone wants to work minimum wage making 29,000 a year and have a strong spiritual life but a poor financial life that's fine. The point of the thread however was to see what people are doing to further their career, get that pay increase, not to "boast" or become arrogant but to live a better more comfortable life. I have goals not just in my career but in my health, more importantly I set spiritual goals for myself. What I do with my professional life ultimately reflects what I can give back whether by tithing or giving back to some other part of the community. If I work on my health I can be that husband and dad that is active in my family, live a long joyous life (God permitted).

I'm currently on a sabbatical from a herd managers job - I can go back but I probably won't (it's messy and very very complicated, but in short, it was a gift from my boss for setting up a farm for him.) I'm interested in civil service oddly enough - I've applied for a few positions so hopefully, I'm on course for a new start this year. I want to move back to central London if I can, it's my home.

So, I'm not a creative snowflake or an 'influencer' - I respect the work force, I always will. BUT, I'll always keep one ear on my own projects. I just generally LIKE working.

Hey that's awesome! Are you a LPN or RN? I start next week taking classes to work toward the LPN. I'm pretty excited. I've worked in a handful of facilities over the years but going to hospice has been one of the most rewarding decisions I have ever made. Good thing to consider about the NICU depending on the size of the town/city or the hospital is that you will have more direct care with the patients. My ex-mother-in-law worked ICU. Great pay. That's great you are looking into all your avenues. God's got you I believe He will set you up with what you are looking for.
