Why exactly WOULDN’T you want the Democrats to be able to call administration officials in the impeachment trial?

The President says he did nothing wrong, and the witnesses the Democrats want to call are all Trump’s own men. Pompeo, Mulvaney, Bolton, Guilliani these are all Trump administration figures and who continue to support him. Surely if he did nothing wrong, then they can all testify to exactly that and it’s over?

The trial will be in the senate with a Republican majority, the Democratic senators will have no power to play games with the rules or anything. All they’re asking for is for the people who were involved to tell the truth under oath.

So please explain to me, why don’t you want these people to clear your Presidents name? Do you really not want to hear what they have to say, and put this whole thing to bed once and for all?

For a follow up question, are you not also scared that next time there’s a Democrat in power this precedent will also be used in reverse?

In my point of view, the time for witnesses was in the house, but considering it was a 1-sided railroading job, maybe witnesses would be a good thing.

Although, I reject the premise they would be needed to clear the President. He's in no danger at this moment of being impeached since the case against him is nothing but unsubstantiated partisan claptrap.

As far as future presidents are concerned, the Dems have set the precedent that a future Repub House can push through partisan impeachment articles using the same railroading techniques the Dems just employed. And if that President tries to go to the courts to prevent the setup, they can also just add those actions to the impeachment articles. So, it's very possible the Dems current corruption will bite them for decades to come.

But that doesn't answer the question. Those witnesses, who could presumably have put the Ukraine thing to rest before there was even a Bill of Impeachment, weren't allowed by Trump to testify then, either.

We've already been through over 2 years (and millions of dollars) worth of looking under every possible rug trying to find any crime..

That was a fail so the best they can come up with was this.

Personally, I was finished after Muller... I'm not willing to waste any more time and money hunting for reasons to overturn this election.

Just shut up already, seriously.

And THAT is how I feel. Let our government do the job of government, Trump's perhaps the first person in history whose been judged guilty of a crime without evidence and so millions of dollars and every day thereafter has to be spent looking for a crime...

Wow. Just get over it. It's exhausting and no one can stand the news anymore.. let's get on with life already.

Yes, and Schiff, Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, and the so-called whistleblower are also eligible, among others.

But no witnesses are absolutely necessary. The final decision will probably depend on whether the White House wants a quick exoneration or instead wants witnesses to set the record straight with information that was not permitted during the House's hearings.

For a follow up question, are you not also scared that next time there’s a Democrat in power this precedent will also be used in reverse?
Oh, for evermore, that will be a real possibility. What the Pelosi people have done is irreversible.

For the reason that it takes away from the genuine rights of Executive Privilege as even spoken about by the Supreme Court in the Nixon case. In their writing you can see what even they acknowledged was a President's right for Executive Privilege. Problem with Nixon those elements weren't a factor in his case. Once can clearly see it would be a factor in Trump's case though.

So please explain to me, why don’t you want these people to clear your Presidents name?

Just because you claim is name hasn't been cleared on these issues doesn't mean it hasn't.

Do you really not want to hear what they have to say, and put this whole thing to bed once and for all?

Many feel it has been put to bed. But let me put it this way not if you get to the end of the process and YES Trump is even more vindicated but here's something you can never get back. The office of the Presidency has given up a genuine need to preserve Executive Privilege and that's something you'll never get back. Future Presidents under accusation will be forced to give it up too.

For a follow up question, are you not also scared that next time there’s a Democrat in power this precedent will also be used in reverse?

Not if it falls in line with what the Supreme Court said is a genuine use of Executive Privilege. With this you have the House charging obstructing Congress.....but it's really the Congress obstructing the office of the Presidency.

Trump wants a miss-trial. His legacy is at stake, it will be on his record, no one else.

The very first thing McConnell will do is call for a miss-trial to the chief justice on the grounds that no crime has been established. I believe he may very well get it.

If Trump allows testifying the trial is on. He knows he will be acquitted but he wants the miss-trial.

I'm sure that neither of them wants to settle for a mistrial (if there even were such a thing with impeachments). If a quick settlement were wanted, acquittal would be the aim, witnesses or no witnesses.

Well, for one this is not a trial....it is not conducted in anyway shape or form to what people consider a trial. Given that, the gathering of evidence lies with the House; they collect and gather evidence and 'interrogate' witnesses in order to support their 'suspicion' that the president did something worthy of being impeached. Their time has passed........ unless Pelosi wants to reopen the investigation which she has shown no indication of doing.
The trial will be in the senate with a Republican majority, the Democratic senators will have no power to play games with the rules or anything. All they’re asking for is for the people who were involved to tell the truth under oath.
Again, that is information gathering and properly belongs to the House. They declined to do so for whatever reason.
So please explain to me, why don’t you want these people to clear your Presidents name?
So, once more, where in the law is ANYONE, including the President, required to clear their name?.....Please cite one example of any such requirement.

It violates the Constitution. Would you like to be forced to prove that you did NOT commit a crime? Would you like to open all your financial records to the FBI so that they can see if you have done anything wrong? After all, if you did nothing wrong, you should have no objection to doing that! Should you?

Look at what happened to Mike Flynn. He said something that was not entirely accurate and now he may have to spend the rest of his life in prison! Can anyone blame him? Can you remember exactly what happened on Nov 4, 2018? And if you get any detail wrong you will go to prison for the rest of your life?

They just used it to trap him. So what do you think the Dems would do to Pompeo, Mulvaney, Bolton, Guilliani if they fall into their sleazy traps?

The House Dems were suppose to send the case to the Senate. If the case is not strong on its own then they should never had impeached Trump.

But I would mind to hear the whistle-blower openly testify. I wouldn't mind hearing Adam Schiff openly testify how many time he talked to the whistle blower before the impeachment. I wouldn't mind Joe Biden testifying why did he threaten to withhold money from the Ukrane unless they fire the investigator on why Hunter Biden received $18,000 a month do doing nothing!

We've already been through over 2 years (and millions of dollars) worth of looking under every possible rug trying to find any crime..

Many more years investigating Hillary and just recently the DOJ essentially dropped the investigation. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...83932e-32f9-11ea-a053-dc6d944ba776_story.html

But I'm sure the Right will keep on with their calls to lock her up. Let's give this fake outrage over "railroading" a rest, shall we?

Personally, I was finished after Muller... I'm not willing to waste any more time and money hunting for reasons to overturn this election.

From your mouth to God's ear....please.

And THAT is how I feel. Let our government do the job of government,

Investigating Hillary?

Trump's perhaps the first person in history whose been judged guilty of a crime without evidence

Unlike Hillary, right? I mean sure no one can FIND any crimes but she's SURELY guilty right?

and so millions of dollars

As you so clearly stated above: folks on the Right should "shut up" about wasting money on "investigations".

Wow. Just get over it. It's exhausting and no one can stand the news anymore.. let's get on with life already.

Oh please. Please!

Yeah but they are trying to stop government from doing the job of governing. So why not accept that Senate republicans aren't going to be your lap dogs looking for non-existent crimes.

Did anyone say otherwise? My point is that a mistrial usually concludes without an acquittal on the record. Which is what I believe Trump is after.

If this were to happen it would probably take place early in the trial. If Trump allows testifying then it will be a full trial more than likely.
