The fear only exists without God, or when we have lost sight of God.
Have you spoken in tongues yet?
Surrender your most unruly member.

James 3:5-8 KJV
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Not me, I teach and preach a position which takes the two 1/2 truths of Calvinism and Armenianism to preach whole truth wherein 'both fit'.....IMO, of course. When the bible was written "rightly dividing the word of truth" was easier. Because back then they understood there were different tongues pertaining to scriptures which didn't elaborate 'the obvious'. The same was true for salvation scriptures. When you think there is only 'one' salvation, you will never apply the right "dividing of the truth" when it's pertaining to the non elaborated salvation scriptures as to whether they pertain to your spirit or your soul or your body.
Okay, there is certainly something to that.
But I was trying to focus on the good news of the gospel.

But maybe that is what you are saying, that the different kinds of salvation should be included in the good news of the gospel?

I mostly agree. I had the word "church" in quotes. Meaning the human organization of sectarian religion.

Saint Steven said:
Yes. The "church" is a dead end street.
There is a whole vast world of boulevards, parkways and freeways to explore.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was thinking about you today and had another one of those pesky images in my head. This time it was a hot air balloon. Have you ever ridden in one?
I was gifted a ticket to ride in one many years ago. I finally contacted the place to set a date for my ride. It was amazing. I was so glad I did it. Except for the sound of the heater flaming up to create hot air, it is completely silent. They cut loose of the sandbags holding it down and the balloon ascends to height rapidly. Wow. Then the wind takes over. The scenery was beautiful over the river valley. And it was so quiet that you could hear people talking and dogs barking at the homes below.
I think many in the "church" are in the balloon basket, but they refuse to release the sandbags and trust the wind (Spirit) to carry them along. They are suspicious of anything they can't control. Ultimately, it is a trust issue.
John 3:7-8
You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
2 Peter 1:21
For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
There are many that have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof.
Don't let that keep you form enjoying the ride!
It was winter and the streets were snow packed. I was heading home and coming up to a red light. I was on the inside lane and was going to turn left at that intersection. A car was already stopped at the light in the outside lane. All of a sudden the Holy Spirit said...NOT AUDIBLY to my physical ears; "Stop now!", which I did as fast as I could. And when I came to a stop I was just over a car length back from the normal stopping point, which was right next to the car in the outside lane. I was feeling kind of dumb since there was a car coming from behind and he stopped right behind me. I just assumed that he was wondering what the idiot in front of him was doing. All of a sudden a car coming from the left and trying to make a right turn lost traction and slid clear across the intersection coming to a stop right next to the car in front of me....but in the outside lane. And the idiot who was driving too fast was bumper to bumper looking at me and me at him. I could have been sandwiched between. But thankfully, my God...still speaks. But, not 'just' to the ears on my head or 'just' through written words on a page. I backed up and said "Thank you Lord." as I drove safely away. I wish I was listening with 'those ears' more often. I also wonder how many Christians, are taken out by the enemy? An enemy that the bible says comes to "rob, kill and destroy". I wonder how many similar events could have been avoided had those Christians been listening spiritually. Instead of thinking they would have been saved from a wreck by 'scriptural rote'.
When Jesus said; "He who has ears to hear-let him hear." Do you think He was talking about the ears on the head of everyone in the crowd? Charlie I've never found a verse to confirm many of the spoken "rehma/words" I've heard by inspiration from the mouth of the Holy Spirit to me as: Deep calleth unto deep... PSA 42:7
Heb. 1:1-2
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
He speaks to the heart through His Word.
Oh dear, don't tell me you think you are the "gifted" one manifesting supernatural POWER FROM the person of The Holy Spirit that Paul is speaking of at Corinth?
1CO 14:23 Therefore if the whole (charismatic) church (of Corinth) assembles together and all speak in tongues, and ungifted men or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are mad?
'Bedside Baptists' and 'mattress Methodists' often call me MAD when they declare my prayer tongue to be "gibberish, and babble". But all I can say is READ THE WORD correctly and 'wake up' spiritually. :idea:
LUK 24:49 And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city, until you are clothed with power from on high."
ACT 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
Please don't respond to tell me this is talking about you getting the Holy Spirit IN you at salvation. That doesn't fly in the bible.
What does that mean from your perspective?
Are you actually agreeing with the Apostle?
You seem to be with the "wise and persuasive words" group.
1 Corinthians 2:3-5
I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.
I can't understand why you would say such a thing after what Hillsage testified to you.
Are you brushing off his personal testimony as so much rubbish?
What is this? I haven't said anything about tongues.
Some folks are obsessed with such.
Did not Paul say he would rather you prophesy than speak in tongue.
Tongues is the least of the gifts, but some folks love the flair of it.
Since you are a triune being don't you think it is 'really' GOOD news to know that ALL THREE parts of you will be saved? Your spirit being OSAS at its rebirth into the holy spirit of CHRIST IN YOU. And your soul being progressively saved...or partially lost in backsliding...as you put on the mind/soul of Christ exchanging your mind/soul for His. That being the salvation that you "save yourselves from this wicked generation" you are living in". And we are all here HOPING for the salvation of our bodies after being resurrected into glorified bodies in the hereafter. I've seen your user icon Steve. Aren't you at least hoping for a sleeker flesh bucket in the hereafter. ;) Or maybe you just want one with that 18 year old metabolic rate that allows you to eat everything in the icebox...and then eat 'the icebox' but never gain a pound? That's the one I want. But til then, after fasting all day yesterday I'm back down to 162.8 lbs. this morning. Up 8 from when I was 18. :)
You don't have to say anything, but it applies. You think like a Baptist and it's been obvious.
Some folks are obsessed with such.
Did not Paul say he would rather you prophesy than speak in tongue.
Tongues is the least of the gifts, but some folks love the flair of it.
And some folks aren't obsessed, they're scared to death of it. From the devil you know. :sigh: And FEAR cancels out the FAITH required to receive.
Paul never said either/or...prophesy/tongues Charlie. He said both IN THE BIBLE and that's what I do. You forsake the tongues gift of God because you are haughty if you think you don't need God's gift to all....prayer "tongues for self edification".
And if you can't attain the "least gift" Charlie don't even twist the scriptures to make you think you have jumped past the FIRST SPIRITUAL STEPPING STONE to claim even higher gifts.
I had to correct a long time BAPTIST patient of mine years ago because she thought it was so wonderful that God gave ME the 'gift of healing'. I laughed and explained to her she didn't know the difference between the soulish talent/gift of Chiropractic from the "spiritual gift of healing from the Holy Spirit." I then explained how the Chiropractor two doors down from me, who just recently ran off with his secretary abandoning his wife and two kids had the same "gift of healing" I was making a living off of. You have too much to learn Charlie, and you aren't asking questions. You are defending the doctrinal box you live in. I don't feel compelled to spend more time here with you. I'm happy to move on, my time here doesn't produce much fruit IMO.
But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
Oh, mighty one who thinks he has been baptized with the Holy Spirit, who thinks he is closer to God than I could ever hope to be, who can now lecture and correct everyone.
If you want to lecture and correct me, you had better do it with scripture. I don't take to being lectured by opinion!
All things being equal. Prophecy is ONLY greater than tongues without interpretation.
1 Corinthians 14:1-5
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4 Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.
Oh, mighty one who thinks he has been baptized with the Holy Spirit...
Are you claiming he isn't saved?
I thought you claimed that all believers have the Baptism with the Holy Spirit. (indwelling)
Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not the indwelling Holy Spirit.
It's a separate anointing. Or could now be "was a separate anointing."
Remember when I told you the Pentecostals hi-jacked the name "baptism with the Holy Spirit."
Do you remember that conversation?
