You guys know better than that. You know presidents don't determine spending. Congress does.

And yet President Trump gets a free pass when he takes money approved by Congress for the military and uses it for his wall.

It takes a President and Congress working together....both defense and welfare spending were cut during Bill Clinton's tenure.

Presidents do sign the spending bills. But Congress creates them. Like I said since the 30s Congress was controlled by the Democrats and created the spending. When the Republicans finally got control of Congress during the Cilnton years spending slowed. And Clinton signed the bills. You may now blame the Republicans for massive spending because they have created spending bills. But you can't run from history. And right now the Republicans are creating history. Massive spending. It used to be the Democratics, but no longer.

.....spending slowed in the 1990's because both Congress and the President agreed to cut from both domestic and defense programs. Additionally, the economy was growing at a 4% clip which greatly enhanced revenues....

I'm not sure what history you think I am running from....

For wages to have risen 3% resulting in $6000 more annually, the the starting household income would have to be 200K.
(200K x 3% = 6k)

The math suggests that the author of the piece is delusional as to what constitutes household incomes in the United States. According to the U.S. Census, the median was $63,179 for Americans in 2018.
A 3% raise in total income would be a raise of $1,895.37.
That would be the increase in total income, but the article says "disposable income." That would mean what is being discussed (6k in disposable income) in this article must be households with much higher incomes than the median or typical.

Let them eat cake.
Dang! Can't be letting actual facts get in the way of a good sound bite!

No need to think about the future -- just spend, spend, spend.... like a good little consumer.
True to a point. Rich people don't create jobs, responsible consumers do.

Ah, but rich people do create quite a few jobs -- for the politicians they own and their staffs...

You guys know better than that. You know presidents don't determine spending. Congress does. And since the 30s (I didn't look further back) the Democrats ran the spending and spent more and more. It wasn't until The Republicans got control of Congress during Clinton's term that spending slowed. Then when Bush jr got into office and the economy collapsed and we went to war, the Republicans went on a massive spendi spree. Which continued with the Democratic Congress with Obama and continued more with the Republican Congress with Trump.
The President has the power of the veto, you know.

What's more, McConell won't even consider bringing up any legislation to the vote that he knows the president doesn't approve of. Which is why the senate is sitting on hundreds of bills.

Tax-cut Boom -- Trump & GOP were right, Democrats and media flat wrong

Given the $ 1 trillion in borrowed money that the Republicans managed to divert to their wealthy supporters, the average America taxpayer is saddled with paying a hefty price for this "boom#" now and for the foreseeable future!

The boom has further contributed to the economic disparities that characterize Republican administrations!

The "boom" is essentially short term profits today for long term costs. Long term costs are already evident in that Trump's policies have exploded the deficit.

Additionally, the roll-back of environmental protections will yield long-term environmental costs which future generations will be paying for.

He's mortgaged our future for a payoff to the already wealthy today.

Of course he does and presidents have used the power to do so. But as you well know Congress has the ability to stuff things into bills, they have the ability to work deals, accuse the president of shutting down the government, all kinds of things. It all about politics. But bottom line is the Democrats were in power until the 90s and spent a lot of money. They have been the traditional spenders. Until the 90s when the Republicans gained control and spending slowed. Until the economy crashed then everyone including the Republicans went on a spending spree which has continued to this day.

This week marks the second anniversary of President Trump's tax cuts, and their results are a vindication of Trump and his Republican colleagues who passed them over hysterical liberal opposition.

....sure, if one is a big corporation....Axios is reporting:

Despite receiving a $3 billion tax cut last year, AT&T announced new and expanded alliances with big outsourcing companies to replace workers with foreign or cheaper domestic talent.
  • Like many major U.S. companies, AT&T has been shifting jobs for years now — but 2019 was especially noteworthy, as workers claimed that as many as 3,000 finance jobs were being outsourced to Accenture. AT&T denied the 3,000 figure, but declined to provide Axios with its own number.
  • AT&T also signed multi-year deals with IBM, Tech Mahindra and Amdocs this year. Accenture, IBM and Tech Mahindra were in the top 10 companies to request H-1B high-skilled worker visas this year.

.....and Happy New Year....

  • [AT&T] Workers described shock and confusion when they were told during a scripted phone call that after a decade or longer at AT&T, they'd have to work for a contractor or resign. Some were told they could not apply for other jobs inside AT&T.
  • Some were told they were needed for a "knowledge transfer" — then tapped to train people on work visas or overseas who would replace them.
  • A presentation obtained by Axios outlining the knowledge transfer process for AT&T and Accenture includes a slide on how to interact with Indian workers.

Alfredo Ortiz: The tax-cut boom — Trump and GOP were right, Democrats and media flat out wrong

This week marks the second anniversary of President Trump's tax cuts, and their results are a vindication of Trump and his Republican colleagues who passed them over hysterical liberal opposition.

Before they passed, Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the tax cuts “Armageddon” and “the worst bill in the history of the United States Congress.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, “Republicans will rue the day they passed.” Democratic presidential candidates Cory Booker, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren called them “cruel,” “highway robbery” and “a heist,” respectively.

So how did these predictions turn out? Average wages have risen by 3 percent or more for the last 16 straight months — roughly 50 percent faster than the Obama-era average. Real disposable personal income per household has risen by $6,000 since the tax cuts passed, shattering expectations.

Wage growth has been especially strong for less-skilled employees, growing by 7 percent over the last year

the median income of $60,000 pays no federal income tax at all.

That is 100% correct - I own a small company and this last 20 months have been the best we have ever seen because of Trumps deregulations and tax cuts. My employees make 8-13% more than two years ago and my commissioned people are doing very well.

We normally give a weeks wages as a Christmas bonus as a minimum. This years it was close to two weeks wages. so very cool!

And you will only have to pay for it in crippling disabilities and decades of healthcare cost increases! But don't worry, some will just die, that should cut costs!

While that is a Democratic byline - I am just not seeing it. Obama Care destroyed the medical insurance costs for us. After the first three years costs increased 450%.

You mean your state not taking the medicaid extension. And those numbers seem quite dubious to begin with. Of course Medicare for all would solve the whole issue.

The costs I am talking about though are from the pollution that this deregulation could easily unleash, and the reckless consumer hazards.
