Sometimes sea is "sea" as in Genesis 1 -- and other times it is a symbol as in Rev 17.
Sometimes angels are "angels" as in Genesis 3 - and other times symbolic as in Rev 14
Sometimes stars are "stars" as in Gensis 1 - and other times symbols as in Rev 12.

This is true, it is only when we know that it should not be used literally.
