This study provides a comprehensive report on the burden of disease and its patterns in the United States and the individual 50 states from 1990 to 2016 and reveals wide disparities in burden of disease at the state level.

Conclusions
There are wide differences in the burden of disease at the state level. Specific diseases and risk factors, such as drug use disorders, high BMI, poor diet, high fasting plasma glucose level, and alcohol use disorders are increasing and warrant increased attention. These data can be used to inform national health priorities for research, clinical care, and policy.

What explains the divergence? First time my parents came to visit me in Boston, they repeatedly noted how skinny everybody was. IME, NYC isn't much different. Even down here in Baltimore, people are noticeably more fit than they are back home.

In Sweden, the go-to-country for many on the left when discussing this topic, has an average 61.15% tax rate and no minimum wage in what is still a free market society. Can you imagine how the younger folks today will react when, if they were making $15 an hour, they lose $9.17 off each hourly wage to pay for this nonsense? Nothing is free, but they seem to think it is and they are entitled to it? A rude awakening awaits!

In Sweden, the go-to-country for many on the left when discussing this topic, has an average 61.15% tax rate and no minimum wage in what is still a free market society. Can you imagine how the younger folks today will react when, if they were making $15 an hour, they lose $9.17 off each hourly wage to pay for this nonsense? Nothing is free, but they seem to think it is and they are entitled to it? A rude awakening awaits!

Average net income in Sweden is about 2,700 us dollars with all important services free (free health care, free education...) and with a social net so that when somebody lost his job, he can live a standard life until he finds another. Also old people can live a standard life.

Average net income in the USA is 3,200 US dollars and you must pay everything from an usual dentist visit to a high-tech cancer treatment.

Not sure whether all the criminality, gangs, drugs, streets full of homeless people and huge debts of so many Americans is worth your 500 US dollars a month more. But its about our mindset. I will rather be poorer and live in a safe country than to be richer and be afraid of mentally ill individuals who cannot afford a treatment on the streets or walking in streets full of people living in tents few miles from city centres.

What is it exactly that you believe all of those people in Sweden can't buy (or save) when practically everything they need is already paid for before they even get a paycheck? Even if they get a bit less take-home money in their paychecks, they still have more disposable income than we do.

I have spent my entire life living under a universal healthcare system. All the time I have been in work, the most I have ever had to pay is a very modest fraction of my monthly salary as well as tax and my pension contribution. Everyone, irrespective of their economic or employment status, has access to comprehensive healthcare under the National Health Service. This means if we have an accident or become ill, we can see our general practitioner or other specialist or get treatment at any NHS hospital across the United Kingdom, even an ambulance to take us there if needed. All of this without receiving any bill or demand for payment. The NHS certainly has a lot of room for improvement, but every day it is literally saving people's lives and giving them a quality of life and health that would otherwise not be possible.

2,700 is already a net monthly income, that means after all taxation.

I think you do not understand how it works if you think that people work from January to September only for government. What do you think we eat? Grass?

Insurance is not free, when you do not need it.. If you need it because of some tragic life situation, you may get so much from it that its "free" compared to what you put into it. Another concept you do not seem to understand.
