is getting a tattoo sinful as i wanna get a tattoo remembering my aunt
"27You must not cut off the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard. 28You must not make any cuts in your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD." (Leviticus 19:28)

There are religious groups that do not think we should have a tattoo. The Bible puts this next to the ban on clipping the edges of the beard. The ultra conservative Hasidic Rabbis do not trim their beard. That shows us how devoted they are to God and how much they desire to serve Him. In the same way there are people that do not get a tattoo to show how devoted they are and how much they want to serve God.

I would say it has to do with how much we want to take our priesthood before God serious. There is a lot more to following the book of Leviticus then just this. Only the most devoted follow all of the requirements.

More then that, if you want to be a Hasidic Rabbi. I study under them. They do not trim the beard at all. Even though as a group they have only been around 200 years, they have an ancient teaching that goes back to Moses and some say goes back to Abraham or even Adam. They have quite a few videos on YouTube. I like listening to the teachings of Rabbi Trugman and I have quite a few of his books that I use for reference. If you want to know what they believe you can use the search word: Kabbalah on google along with a subject and their teachings will come up on that. In this case even though there is a ban - Kabbalah symbols tattoo is somewhat popular with some people. A really devoted person may get the entire tree of life tattoo. Or someone may get a few Hebrew letters that are very important to them.

i was told that it used to be some sort of demon ritual to put ink on the skin

I would imagine there are some tattoo's that represent the demonic...those would be a sin, but I don't think the act of receiving a tattoo is sin. The question is, what is the motivation? Is the tattoo God honoring?

If you're 20 years old I'd recommend you put off getting it. It'll be there forever, but your ideas about such things may change.

You’re going to get a variety of answers from both sides of the issue. Ultimate you’ll have to decide for yourself but starting with your pastor is good.

I have a couple of tatts and feel content of the tatt is what’s important.

Bible Hubs Gill commentary has this to say;

nor print any marks upon you; Aben Ezra observes, there are some that say this is in connection with the preceding clause, for there were who marked their bodies with a known figure, by burning, for the dead; and he adds, and there are to this day such, who are marked in their youth in their faces, that they may be known; these prints or marks were made with ink or black lead, or, however, the incisions in the flesh were filled up therewith; but this was usually done as an idolatrous practice; so says Ben Gersom, this was the custom of the Gentiles in ancient times, to imprint upon themselves the mark of an idol, to show that they were his servants; and the law cautions from doing this, as he adds, to the exalted name (the name of God): in the Misnah it is said (h), a man is not guilty unless he writes the name, as it is said, Leviticus 19:28; which the Talmudists (i) and the commentators (k) interpret of the name of an idol, and not of God:

Most tattoos would not be advisable. It, in a sense, kind of creates an icon or stamp on your skin, showing what is most important to you. It permanently disfigures the body, is generally pretty painful, can be addictive for some (I don't know many people who find that they are able to stop at one tattoo), and the Children of Israel were forbidden to tattoo themselves.

That said, many Coptic Christians get tattooed with Christian symbols; crosses, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saints, but most famously, crosses on the wrist.

There are less painful, more profitable, better ways to honor your Aunt, imho.

You should not need a tattoo to remember your aunt. You remember other things, why not your aunt. Or is there a more honest answer you do not wish to reveal. If so, will that answer last as long as the tattoo. If not, then you'll end up with a tattoo that no longer serves its original purpose.

There are mixed opinions. If your conscience is OK with it, go for it.
The Biblical prohibition concerning tattoos was part of the Mosaic Law, and that Law passed into history as soon as the curtain in the Temple was ripped from top to bottom at the death of Jesus. Jewish believers may have scruples about it, and that is understandable because they will be viewing the Law for sanctification not justification which is by grace and not of works.

But Gentile believers are not subject to Mosaic Law because they have the Spirit and are to walk by the Spirit. But in saying that, if getting a tattoo is against your conscience and is sin for you, then it is sin and should be avoided, because the sin consciousness could hinder your prayers. But if your conscience doesn't condemn you, then there is nothing to stop you getting a tattoo.
