In a Friday interview on "Fox & Friends," Trump openly admitted to holding up military aid to Ukraine to pressure the government to investigate a baseless conspiracy theory about Ukrainian election interference and Democratic collusion.

In other words, Trump acknowledged doing the very thing he has repeatedly denied and will likely be impeached for. The president started off by referencing the broad outlines of the conspiracy, suggesting Ukraine is hiding a Democratic National Committee "server" that contains evidence of Ukrainian meddling.

Then, crucially, he tacked on: "We're looking for corruption, there's tremendous corruption, and why should we be giving hundreds of millions of dollars to countries where there's this kind of corruption?"

Side note - If this isn't enough for you, the full interview is insane. It seems like he's cracking.

Of course. It's like Donald Trump is Putin's year-round not-so-secret Santa delivering him gifts.

Sounds just like the rumour that Trump had a serious heart problem merely for having a medical check up after which he does a big rally and and speech and much other work adding up to a 14 hour day.

Such nonsense. So Trump made it possible for Ukraine to have Javelins to defend against the Russians and he's Santa to Putin? Or was it rather the last administration that was that t Putin by giving only blankets and pillows?

Sympathetically, it seems trouble for him comes via his perception of things. See, what he's saying in this video isn't always just a manner of speaking, but really what he thinks, as you notice here and there in some of the instances:

When he said he's "the least racist person in the world", that was a moment when I suddenly saw it: he really thinks he is less racist than anyone we know.

The trouble with losing a realistic view of the world is he then doesn't have any anchor.

Just himself. He's his only anchor, and that leads to a less and less and less accurate view of the world.

Under the conditions of the foreign military sale, the Trump administration stipulates that the Javelins must be stored in western Ukraine — hundreds of miles from the battlefield. Experts say the conditions of the sale render them useless. And it's bizarre that Trump wants adulation for the Javelins having been sent, and yet also wants to act nonchalant about the interruption of military assistance to Ukraine while it is at war with Russia; that's incongruent.

And Ukraine has still yet to receive $35 million in aid.

Yes, of course Donald Trump is delivering another tremendous gift to Putin! In the past half year Ukraine has made strident, multifaceted attempts to fight corruption, electing both a new president and a parliament who ran on anti-corruption platforms. It was after they did so that Trump withheld military assistance, doing so a week prior to the phone call with President Zelensky, which put more weight on the "favor" he asked. This Trump-manufactured fiasco has cast their brand-new president who is in an intensely vulnerable situation, in a negative light, as if he is the one who is corrupt.

C&p'ng a post I wrote about this last night in another thread:
If Donald Trump was so concerned about corruption in Ukraine, why didn’t he withhold military assistance right after taking office? Or a year later? Or two years later? Trump supplied aid without question when Ukraine had a notoriously corrupt oligarch as the president. Then this spring Ukrainians elected a man who ran on an anti-corruption platform, vowing to fighting it, and earning the reputation as being the "anti-corruption crusader," as well as a parliament that also ran on an anti-corruption platform. So it's defiant of diplomatic sense and of logic to then withhold military assistance while they are fighting a war, right after Ukrainian people just voted for a new president and parliament who ran on anti corruption platforms on the pretense of being concerned about corruption. And it's absolutely not normal or acceptable to have military assistance delayed after DOD reviewed corruption indices and verified that it was okay to deliver military assistance, especially when the entire senior national security team wanted to see the aid delivered.

Trump will of course not testify under oath but if he did and he was asked what are the indices he uses to track changes in corruption in Ukraine, he'd probably goldfish stare at the question; it's extremely, extremely doubtful he has ever once reviewed this data.

Also: the conviction of Trump's former campaign chairman for corruption in Ukraine is a strong argument against the sincerity of his claim about being concerned about corruption in Ukraine.

Edited to add link about the president of Ukraine when Trump didn't make any effort to thwart military assistance being delivered to Ukraine:
Ukrainian president to face possible impeachment over corruption claim

Of course not! With his track record of lies no one would expect truth from the man. Any oath from him might sound like:

"I swear by the Lord Trump Almighty to tell my truth, the whole my truth and nothing but my truth."

Well then why is it that none of the Dems (to my knowledge) brought that up as an issue at the hearings and neither did the experts on the field witnesses in the hearings make such a point. Certainly doesn't seen they considered there's going to be any real problem of the Ukrainians using the equipment.

What was Zelesnky thinking to approve that deal? He had to know the Javelins are only useful in the war zone. Ukraine is still corrupt even with a new President if he can't store Javelins on the east side.

This only makes it worse for Trump. He does not care at all about the Ukraine-Russia war. If he did, the sale stipulation would be keeping Javelins where they can be used.

At this point, we've heard Trump say he did a quid pro quo (although not in so many words), but it only amounts to hearsay. We only heard him say it, we weren't inside his brain seeing what he was thinking. Or, at least, that's what I presume will be Trump supporters defense.

I'm joking. Their defense will be "he was joking", which they use every time he says things that are false or vile.

How you can take a hypothetical question being posed Why should we be the only ones giving all the aid all the time comment and twist it into an admission of some kind of wrongdoing is beyond me..

He didn't say he withheld aid from Ukraine..
