Hi! I am a new member to this forum. I have watched many discussions over the last year or so and truly enjoy what I have learned. I came to Christ in May 2019, and I am eager to learn all I can. It can be overwhelming sometimes when there are so many teachings, but I remind myself to keep my eyes on Jesus and he will never lead me wrong.

Hello Valleygirl, WELCOME TO CF  Thank you for telling us a little bit about yourself :)

I'm glad that you found us and have now joined in the conversations as well :oldthumbsup:

God bless you!

--David
p.s. - it's true that there is a LOT to learn about God and the faith, the good news is, you've got all the time that you need to do so, since as a Christian, you came into possession of eternal life from the moment that you first believed, yes .. John 5:24 :amen:

1 Thessalonians 5
23 May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body
be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.

Thank you all so much! I am very excited to be able to ask questions of fellow believers and to join into discussions. I was raised in church, then I fell away from going when I was about 18 or 19. For 10 years, I was not going like I knew I should. I am now back in church, and I love it! My church is wonderful, but like all churches, they are not perfect. Some things that are taught, I question when I go back to scripture and read something different. So it is refreshing to know I have a safe place to ask :)

Hello again Valleygirl, that's a very good thing that you are doing (checking up on a teaching whenever you have a question about it, that is ), just like the noble Bereans did when the Apostle Paul taught them .. Acts 17:10-12.

Blessings to you in Christ,
David
p.s. - we've actually had pretty similar "church" lives. I baptized as an infant and raised in the church (loved it, for the most part anyway ;)), but I was pulled away from it in college. Nevertheless (and this may be different in your case), I always 'thought' that I was a Christian, of course (even in my 20's when I'd left the church and embraced the world instead), until the day I actually became one, 2 months after my 30th birthday, and nothing has been the same since, PTL :)

Psalm 1
1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.

Hi again :) Yes, it seems we are similar. I was not baptized until recently. When I went to church when I was younger, I thought I was saved. I had a strong moral conviction, so I just assumed I was. When I became an adult, I almost completely pulled away. I still felt conviction, but not nearly as frequent or as "hard" as before. I knew I was sinning, but I didn't really care and always thought there was plenty of time to come clean-later on. I always knew God had sent his son to die for us, I knew Jesus was tormented and tortured, killed, and brought back. But I don't think I ever truly grasped the full understanding of this until recently. When I did turn to Christ, I found myself diving head first into everything, all at once. That became overwhelming. So I have taken a step back, placed my trust in Him, and I know he will show me the way. I think my biggest problem now is shame. I am ashamed of many decisions I have made in the past. But I have to give Jesus even that shame, because I know on my own, the Devil can run with it. With Jesus, he will take care of it. Thank you for being so kind and welcoming!

Hello! I am so excited to hear that you are eager to learn more about Jesus. I found that one way to truly learn more about the Lord is through reading the Word; I love the Open Bible because it is easy to read. The Bible is rich in providing us with knowledge and understanding and I have found that by using a program, as a Bible Study tool, it helps me to stay on track each day; they are easy to find online and are free to download. Let me know if you need help finding a Bible Study program.

I once heard a message from Dr. Charles Stanley where he said, pick the best part of your day to read God’s Word. I’ve found that it is best for me to start my mornings with reading the Bible then I am more prepared for what lays ahead of me the rest of the day. I pray that you are filled with encouragement today and keep moving forward in your studies. God bless you!

Thank you so very much! I am very eager. I was raised in one particular church, so I have to admit, it has been hard for me to realize that some of the things they teach may not be as biblical as they think they are. I am just so grateful that I have the guidance I need to understand if I truly open up my heart to listen to Him.

Hi Valleygirl, the shame thing is a hard one to get past, at least it has been for me :( I'm 33 years in as a Christian now, but I still feel shame at times for the very sinful life that I led in my 20's. I find a large part of my rest in the fact that God is omniscient, and that even though He knew EVERYTHING about me (then and now), He still chose to save me anyway :amen:

He is also, afterall, the One who justifies the sinner, the wicked/ungodly, not the righteous .. Mark 2:17; Romans 4:5.

Here's a quote from the "prince of preachers" as they call him, a quote that I did not fully grasp early in my walk, and I'm sure that I still do not fully understand the depth of it now, but it is, nevertheless, one of my favorite Christian quotes (I thought you might enjoy it as well).

God bless you! (Numbers 6:24-26)

Greetings valleygirl. I am new here too, and it feels pretty nice to see that there's a lot of interesting topics to read at CF.
Welcome! I agree, there are many topics to read and discuss...even some I didn't realize I was interested in until I started reading them lol!

Thank you, David! I think it is amazing how we think we have a grasp of something, but He reveals so much more that our own understanding just didn't get. We are so undeserving but I'm so thankful I can rest in the knowledge that even though I am unworthy, he loved me enough to send a perfect sacrifice so that I may be saved!
