I have a tv, but it's not able to get channels or connect to internet. I use it to watch dvd's. I could hook it up to my computer if I want, but haven't bothered.

I have but only for watching movies in the internet.

I don't watch regular programs. Too much worldly (false) teachings in those.

I'm aware there's also many false teachings in movies but regular programs are a lot worse which virtually indoctrinates people to love the things of this world and idolize their family - quite the opposite of Biblical teachings.

I think the easiest way is just hook a laptop or computer to it and use it as the monitor!

How far is your desktop from your TV? Do both have an HDMI port? If so, you may just need a sufficiently long HDMI cable.

I do have a T.V., but don't watch it that often. I enjoy being busy, and am frequently working on some kind of project; I can't imagine myself sitting in front of the television for an extended period of time. If I want to relax, I would rather sit outside and enjoy the scenery, meditate or read / research.

When I do use my T.V. however, I usually only put on music channels for background noise, or occasionally get news updates. I wasn't really a fan of watching sports in the past, but that's changed in recent years (especially after getting into fantasy football with friends and family members). I do enjoy watching games off and on, especially when Texas teams are playing such as the Dallas Cowboys or the Houston Texans, as well as college football teams such as the Longhorns.

Sometimes, I'll watch movies or just put them on in the background, especially on the channel TCM (Turner Classic Movies). A majority of modern movies and T.V. shows don't really interest me; there's a lot of filth in shows today (no offense to those who enjoy them, of course ), and the commercials are especially obnoxious. The overuse and abundance of CGI nowadays is also annoying, as it just feels fake and takes me out of the overall experience.

Most of the time, I prefer classic or vintage movies, as they're more genuine, intelligent and of higher moral appreciation (for the most part). I also love analyzing the differences in culture back then to what it's like today. Movies on TCM aren't interrupted by commercials either, which is definitely a positive.

That's exactly right! I recently bought my first flat-screen and have been able to do that. I plug an HDMI cable into the HDMI port in the TV with the other end plugged into the laptop, and then change the TV input to HDMI 1, or whichever HDMI port it's plugged into, and then the TV basically becomes a second monitor. It's nice having a 43" monitor rather than a 15" one when I'm home.

I am a mom. We have 3 tvs. One for each floor. They are used for TV, gaming, dvds, VHS (yes, we have VHS players and tapes cost 25 cents at Salvation Army), and streaming. I like using the tv because I can run a movie or a show in the background while I am cleaning or cooking or doing the stuff I need to get done during the day. A small screen requires staying closer to the screen so you can actually look at it.

I actually use the screen to help my brain turn off at night....it stops the wheels from spinning. It also drowned out the daytime noises when I needed to sleep during the day related to a night job.

My daughter and my favorite things to watch are historical based shows and movies. I while she sews, she streams documentaries and biographies through the tv in the basement. I don't think my son watches tv but uses his computer, tablet, and laptop mostly.

All a tv is, is a larger screen for some of the same and some unique forms of media. If I couldn't only have one screen, I'd take my laptop. However, the tv is nice to have....on a major cleaning day, I can set all the tvs to the same show so I don't miss anything as I do laundry in the basement or fold clothes in my bedroom on the second floor...or cook in the kitchen on the main floor (which often are being done at the same time).

We have one small smart TV. I don't have cable or a dish. I stream hulu and watch DVDs or Blue rays. I plan to get a new antenna before Thanksgiving so I can watch the parade in New York City.

I mostly keep the TV running at night for some light and low background noise.

All you need is to plug in the cable and if you have multiple HDMI slots select the correct one and it’s there.
I often use TVs as monitors. It’s excellent for steam games (especially multiplayer).... or doing homework on a bigger screen... I learned this from my friends who also watch netflix that way.
But there are many other ways to get streaming onto tvs.

A long HDMI won't work with UHD or 4K. With 1080p maybe but not sure.

May have to use a splitter or repeater to boost signal of long HDMI. I'm probably just using cheap HDMI!

I just checked, and my T.V. doesn't have an HDMI input port. It's an older model, but does support HD component cables, RCA and S-Video. An HDMI-to-Component external adapter or cable adapter might work.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that there isn't a limit (50 ft or ~ 15 m) to how long a functional HCMI cable to me. Sorry if that wasn't clear. My point was that he should keep the distance between the devices in mind when looking for a cable. A 6 ft (~2 m) cable won't do him much good, for instance, if the computer is 15 ft (~ 4.5 m) away and he can't move it closer.

I’m pretty sure I used that converter with my old tv that didn’t have HDMI when I got a Blu-ray player with an HDMI connection. It works.
It was kinda fun to stream netflix on my old (definitely not flat screen) TV with that converter.

Years ago I used to use a converter to play movies from my ipod onto tvs... it seems i’m always using a converter for something.

On the topic of TVs, when I was a teenager I used to have a tv where I had to manually tune each of the channels with a little tool... it was kind of fun.
