Buffalo Wild Wings asked a group to move because a customer didn't 'want black people sitting near him.' The staff has been fired.
The Vahls went out on a Saturday night near Chicago in search of dinner. But the family and their party, a mostly African American group of parents and young kids celebrating a birthday, say they faced discrimination head-on instead when staff at a Buffalo Wild Wings repeatedly ordered them to leave their table — all because another customer did not want to sit next to black people.
On Oct. 26, following a birthday party, the Vahls' party showed up to a Buffalo Wild Wings in a strip mall in Naperville, Ill., a racially diverse suburb about 40 minutes southwest of Chicago. Mary's husband, Justin, asked for a table for 15, but as a host began setting up their table, he quickly realized he had miscounted the size of the group and went up to correct his mistake.

Then, the host — a young African American man — asked a question that took him aback: "What race are you guys?"

"Why does it matter?" Justin Vahl asked the host.

Sitting nearby, the host said, was a regular customer who "doesn't want black people sitting near him." He labeled the man as racist.

The Vahls and their friends didn't want to give that other customer any satisfaction, so they sat down at the table anyway and began ordering drinks and appetizers. All the while, they started getting glares from the man — who appears to be white in a photo Mary posted to Facebook — and noticed him talking to waitstaff. That's when a manager told them they'd have to get up for a new table.

Their staff did it all wrong. Learn how to handle customers like this with class:

From the video above, my favorite line is still: "We aren't ingorant [sic]."

But wait guys. We don't have both sides of the story. You know what that means. The idiot management at Buffalo wings certainly didn't do any kind of investigation to see if their managers acted inappropriately.

But even if they did, they won't share it with us. So, sure there is racism in America...but this isn't an example of it because...well it's just not

Hmm...move the one racist crank or move the entire party of 15 who didn't do a damn thing...well if that isn't the tough call of the millennium, I don't know what is!

I hope that whoever was in charge of training the staff was also fired, because they obviously aren't fit for their position either. And who gives a rat's tucchus if the racist guy was a 'regular'? If anything, that makes it worse, doesn't it? The guy was probably coming in every week with his nasty attitude, making the servers and hosts whose job it is to treat him fairly very difficult and unpleasant to do, and expecting to get preferential treatment because he brings in consistent business. Maybe a labor fight worth having would be to scrap the informal rule that says "the customer is always right". Some customers clearly abuse that idea, which is basically just a courtesy meant to avoid conflict in the first place.

At least you haven’t heard anyone accusing the family staging this because that’s the next accusation.

Was there something missing from the original story?

The really sad part is that we have sooooo many who make the claim that there is no longer any racism in America.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

I repeatedly see people saying this....yet never came across anyone claiming racism doesn't exist.

How it should have happened...

Customer: I don't want all these black people sitting near me
Staff: Well, there's a way you could fix that...

That'd be tough for the staffers to pull off since the managers certainly seemed to be on the side of the racist. The OP article pointed out that the host who first asked them about their race was also black.

Maybe this guy was a big spender/tipper. Maybe he was buddies with a boss. Maybe they were cowards who felt more comfortable hassling a large party of black people than one belligerent white guy. Maybe they were white supremacists, too. Maybe some/all of the above.

This will keep happening until there is another civil war. It is just that because of other campaigns people are not getting angry as quickly as they "should". That is the goal racists and the cowards who entertain them are being used for.

Some on these Christian Forums would say that the black guy is lucky he is able to enter a BWW if they could get away with it. You can perceive those "wavesforms" through the digital connection. He should have known that was coming, though. The amount of testosterone in BWW gives people the courage to be who they are.

And what was with that? How do you not tell whether a black person, is, well - ummm, black? And if they looked more middle eastern or something, then why would grumpy racist customer guy care at all?

Bizarre

I haven't seen any photos of them. It could be they weren't terribly dark, or, since it was a large group, that there was an array of skin tones.

It's one of those stories that doesn't quite make sense. Even if the guy was a big tipper...he's not likely to be tipping bigger than a party that large.

A decent manager would have said to the couple with the problem due to ethnicity/race.....

"If you're not happy being seated near people of another ethnicity, you're free to put down the buffalo wings and remove yourself from the premises!"

The article disagrees. It says that the employees were fired "after an internal investigation."
But even if they did, they won't share it with us. So, sure there is racism in America...but this isn't an example of it because...well it's just not
No, it's a perfect example of how racism is still alive in the US. There is no section of the US that is free of racism.
