It's like they've convinced themselves that the whistleblower is the one and only source of information and/or that if they can somehow show bias on his part, that makes everything that they've learned in the inquiry disappear.
The whistleblower is pretty irrelevant at this point.
It's part of why I've pulled back from commenting on a bunch of these threads (that, and I'm trying to let some of my warnings expire). If a person doesn't understand this point despite it having been made numerous times, then there's pretty much zero chance of having an interesting or informative discussion with them.
