A theory Sen. Mitt Romney pitched on the Senate Floor Thursday:

“It’s been … suggested that Turkey may have called America’s bluff, telling the president they are coming no matter what we did,” said Romney, of Utah. “If that’s so, we should know it. For it would tell us a great deal about how we should deal with Turkey, now and in the future.”

Romney then returned to the idea that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan might have given Trump an ultimatum that was met with acquiescence.

“Are we so weak and inept diplomatically that Turkey forced the hand of the United States of America? Turkey!?” Romney said. “I believe that it’s imperative that public hearings are held to answer these questions, and I hope the Senate is able to conduct those hearings next week.”

Was Trump Bullied by Turkey?

President Erdogan
1.
Turkey invades Syria in defiance of Trump's threats of sanctions if it crossed the border
2. Turkish backed militias attacked American troops at their anti ISIS headquarters with F-15s and Apache helicopters being called in to prevent being overrun
3. American troops were forced into such a hasty retreat that they had to rely on US air assets to destroy their equipment so as not to fall into enemy hands
4. Kurds never included in the negotiations
5. the Kurds who sustained 11000 casualties defeating ISIS are being forced from the homelands
6. Turkey occupies Syrian territory without being subject to the sanctions Trump was using as a deterrent

President Trump
1.
receives 72 hour ceasefire with the Turks already contesting the terms of the agreement - there are no guarantees that those Arab militias that attacked the American base and are not part of Turkey's military will honor that ceasefire
2. this President denounced by the Republican Senate Leader McConnell, Senator Lindsey Graham and other GOP politicians
3. 2/3 of the Republicans in the House joined with their Democratic counterparts in passing a motion denouncing the President's "brilliant strategy"

The problem with Trump and his supporters is that they can't tolerate criticism without coming out swinging!

If you don't expect to be the subject of constant criticism then don't run for President - it comes with the territory!

As I have written a few times here, I am not even sure why the U.S. has a State Department, National Security Council or any other government agency that normally would provide support and counsel to the President. Trump trust his gut instinct....a gut that believes the entire world operates like a real estate transaction.

Yes, Senator, the U.S. is weaker today than at anytime since WW2. No one can trust us. Our foreign policy is without principle or values.
