“Do we love law enforcement or what?” President Donald Trump asked a cheering crowd during his “Make America Great Again” political rally Oct. 12 [2018] in Lebanon, Ohio.

But when Lebanon City Hall sent Trump’s campaign a $16,191 invoice for police and other public safety costs associated with his event, Trump didn’t respond. Trump’s campaign likewise ignored Lebanon officials’ follow-up reminders to cover the sum — one rich enough to fund the entire police force for nearly two days in this modest city of 21,000, between Dayton and Cincinnati.

The bill remains unpaid.
------
The red ink Trump poured on Lebanon’s thin blue line is no anomaly.

At least nine other city governments — from Mesa, Arizona, to Erie, Pennsylvania — are still waiting for Trump to pay public safety-related invoices they’ve sent his presidential campaign committee in connection with his political rallies, according to interviews with local officials and municipal records obtained by the Center for Public Integrity.

Some invoices are three years old. In all, city governments say Trump’s campaign owes them at least $841,219.

Can you share a written record of a sitting president paying such a bill? Is there a record of a democrat president ever getting such a bill?

Anyone can send anyone a bill. He could send them a bill for the same amount and then it would be a washout. Or they could always take him to court.

There are rumors that Trump stiffed contractors and others that did work for him prior to his becoming President.I know someone who got caught in the Trump University scam. Trump ended up charged millions for that bit of con artistry. As far as I know, no one has gotten a dime for that illegality.

As far as I know, it's never been an issue with *any* previous President. You're welcome to research it though...

It's interesting how some want to make this a partisan issue.

Here's food for thought: I live in a very conservative Republican dominated city. The article references a letter sent by our city's attorney requesting $64k to cover police cost associated with a Trump rally that 12,000 people attended last year. I have written our city councilman to inquire if that invoice is still outstanding, and if so, what measures are city taking to recover our cost (we the city taxpayers).

I could care less. It's a none issue unless of course, some Trump hater wants to use it to make it an issue.

Can we agree that paying for one's bills for services rendered is a common value shared by all responsible people?

No.... because you are going to use this to rail against a man you "hate." Instead... if we have a record that ALL PRESIDENTS pay for the local cops to keep the peace in town they visit, and Trump did not... then you have a great point. But if it isn't the practice of presidents to do this, then you don't. Since YOU brought up the point, it isn't up to me to go investigate. You made the point, you investigate or else it is gossip!

Stating another poster's motive is based on hate is not cool and frankly, is a sign of a weak argument. Good day Mr Rank.

The Center for Public Integrity list the invoices. Other candidates have reimbursed cities that charge for these services. The El Paso case is sited.

Is there a record of Donald ever paying such a bill?

Seriously, he has a long and shameful record of stiffing contractors.

Oh look! the goal posts have shifted already! This is not about President Trump visiting a city; it is about Candidate Donald holding a political campaign rally for his personal benefit.

...then you have a great point. But if it isn't the practice of presidents to do this, then you don't.
When presidents visit as presidents, then the feds are supposed to tip in, but when the visit is not presidential, but for political benefits campaigning, then secret security still protects the man, but the campaign for extra protection associated with the venue.

Since YOU brought up the point, it isn't up to me to go investigate. You made the point, you investigate or else it is gossip!
A link was provided for you in the OP. If you dispute the evidence, provide evidence with which to do so or else be prepared to be dismissed out of hand.

The issue here is that the city did not reach agreement on cost prior to the rally ... which is apparently accepted procedure. The Trump campaign honors such agreements, but apparently does not honor post-event bills not previously anticipated.

It's a matter of policy because some municipalities saw an opportunity to profit, either monetarily or politically, by tendering outlandish bills to the Trump campaign.

Which case are you referring to? Lebanon, Ohio? A city of 21,000 people.

Trump's bills are from 2016 before he was the President.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar's campaign said there were private security officers and city police at her presidential campaign kick-off at Boom Island in Minneapolis in February, but the campaign reimbursed the city for the officers, as well as the parking lot and park rental.
Who should cover the cost of President Trump's Minneapolis campaign rally?

Not all of them. The El Paso one was when he held a rally there as President -- but again, it was a campaign event and not part of his official duties, so the campaign should pay for the security they requested.
