Shouldn't we as a society do more to protect retail corporations from theft and fraud?

I know that this sounds like am unpopular opinion but I believe we as a society do not do enough to protect retail corporations from fraud and theft. There are even other Christians in know who seem to view theft from say a Walmart as some what more forgivable than theft from a person. I don't think that there should be a distinction, there isn't one legally and definitely not one as per the 10 commandments. It just really irks me when some one tells me "well is just a Walmart it is not like it was some old lady or something ". I personally think this type of justification is a slippery slope towards more immorality.
This is a bit of a rant but this is what got me so hot over this.
A couple nights ago I went down to an arcade bar with a couple girlfriends and there I met a guy who at the time seemed really fun and interesting. He was from Taiwan, was very cute and seemed like a very nice guy. He came up to me and we chatted, had some drinks together, danced and just had a really nice time. I will admit that I let my guard down a bit because he was just so sweet and because he seemed to really really appreciate parts of me (my hips, my belly, and my thighs) which I have always been self-conscious about. Against my better judgment I went with him back to his hotel.
After being intimate, as we were getting ready to sleep I noticed that he had some really odd items set up on the hotel desk. he had a heat gun, a shrink wrap machine, rulers and an assortment of cutters. It was almost life he had a little lab set up in the hotel room. At the time I didn't think much of it and curled up next to him.
In the morning after we woke up and were intimate again I playfully asked about his little set up and his face practically lit up. He threw some clothing on, dragged me by the arm over to his little lab and started excitedly pulling stuff out. It was like he was so proud and eager to show off to me what he was up to. It turns out he was buying high end electronics from our local big box stores, taking the items out and re sealing the boxes and then resting wrapping them so he could get refunds. He said that the whole time he had been visiting he had been doing this. I of course was shocked at what I was hearing but at the time I was trying not to judge. I gently told him that what he was doing was stealing but he just kind of shrugged and said that stealing from big box stores doesn't count. He even said he plans to run the shrink wrap machine that he bought from a packing store for a full refund before he flew home to his country. I figured at the time it wasn't my place to judge so I decided to just pray over it. We spent the day together and then spent another night together, and that night too I saw his lab and that just kind of gnawed at the back of my mind. The next day I had to go to work so we made plans to see each other later. When I finished my shift he never showed at the restaurant. I went back to his hotel and they told me he had checked out earlier in the day. I prayed more over what he told me he was doing and it was bothering me so much that I decided to talk to my girlfriends who I was out with that night about it. When I told them they oohed and awwed how "clever that cute taiwanese guy was". I couldn't believe it! They all claimed Christianity yet saw no problem with how this guy is a prideful unrepentant thief. They allay actually thought he was soooooo smart for coming up with this.
I went to the police about this but I was told unless I knew which stores he did this at and the store was interested in pressing charges there was nothing they could do, they weren't even interested in going to the hotel to get his name an information (he never gave me a last name).
This is why I say I don't think we do enough to protect retail stores from being taken advantage of. I personally feel that the political climate has done so much to demonize the rich and corporations that people are just unconcerned with doing right by them.
I personally believe that certain things like shrink wrap machines, really have no legitimate uses for ordinary people and therefore should be banned from private ownership. Really, why does a normal law abiding person need something like that? And that we as Christians need to avoid ranking sin. Right is right and wrong is wrong it shouldn't matter if it is a person or a corporation being taken advantage of.
I really think that morality in general will improve when we as Christians and then we as a society stop justifying sinful behavior by saying that the behavior in question is some how acceptable because the victim 'deserves it' or 'can take it'.

There is no difference. Such people are headed for prison.
You should drop them from your circles immediately.

No one's innocent.

If you're making money no matter how honest you think your job is, we are probably committing theft already.

It's a rather long story how our system came to such form...But is why Jesus said:
The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil

Wonder why Jesus called the merchants at the temple thieves? Because they take advantage of the poor /less fortunate to make a profit.

That's how you make money. It is "clean" by the time it makes to our paycheck but not realizing where it originally came.

This is like loving the taste of the grilled beef in our burgers but not minding of the process it was once a living animal, raised in captivity, put to death and butchered.

This why our duty is to the poor, not to the well-off.... Whatever you do to the least of our brethren, you do for the Lord.

Everyone is stealing from someone, just some are doing it legally. We point our fingers to thieves when we have a huge log in our eyes and the rest of our fingers pointing back at us.

I don't lose any sleep when multi billion dollar companies who don't pay their employees a living wage experience theft. That's not to say I think it's right to steal, that's not to say I advocate for theft, and I certainly don't participate in theft, but I just can't force myself to care when it happens.

I would avoid clubbing, being intimate with and spending the night with guys you meet, and hanging out with people whose values are in no way compatible with Christian faith.

I agree that theft from Walmart is wrong. It's annoying for the workers, and ultimately, hurts us.

I would distance yourself from the life style, and these friendships. Such behavior (theft) can land you into legal trouble. It's good to be careful.

I read somewhere recently that Walmart prosecutes to the fullest extent of the law. It's definitely not worth the trouble. If you think about it (other than being immoral) how much value can a person realistically steal from Walmart to make it worth thousands in fines, jail time, mandatory community service, and a record?

It is wrong but like I said I don't shed a tear for these blood sucking companies when people do steal.

Ok. It's crummy for the workers, though. We have to keep finding open and empty packages of stuff all over, we waste time tailing thieves, and some of them get pushy. Not fun.

No, but we can keep a distance and see what they're doing. Takes a while.
Sounds like more than what you're paid to do. There's a difference in seeing someone steal something and speaking up and having a hunch and playing private investigator. These blood sucking companies don't even pay enough to justify getting the best out of people let alone extra.

Could be worse. It's tough, at times, but I get to work with bread. That's cool. And management in my store is awesome.

maybe the reason they can't pay their employees a living wage is because they are losing money through theft.

Spending the night with somebody we don't even know is very dangerous.

Making it even worse the man proved to be a thief. And even after finding that out you had more sex with him.

I also lead a very wretched life when I was younger.
Learnt the hard way.
Best repent before it is too late.

I have had many friends who died or went down the drain because, they were doing the wrong thing in God's eyes.

Turn while still possible.
Hopefully before the dead end sign.

This is EXACTLY the attitude I am talking about! Why do people who claim Christ and a love of the father are so permissive and I would say almost encouraging of fraud. I would definitely call what this guy was doing fraud and in certain ways it is much worse than theft. What this guy is doing takes advantage of and exploits trust. The trust that a company had when it offers a generous return policy and the trust that a returns employe has that a shrink wrapped package is unopened and therefore doesn't need to be checked. Some of you guys justify this behavior by acting as an advocate for the employees who are 'taken advantage of by these companies ' you don't think that if this type of thing keeps happening the stores won't institute a policy that all items, even shrink wrapped ones must be opened thereby creating even more work for those 'unfortunate employees'?
I would love to think that this guy would be caught and prosecuted but unfortunately it would take at least days of not weeks for this scam to be uncovered and it seems he is already long gone with his plunder. I know some one said that this sort off behavior will land him in prison but realistically the is just too much plausible deniabilihty. And the rain that is so is because like I dais I think we as a society so not do or care to do enough to protect large corporations and then we tell ourselves that we don't have to because those corporations are 'evil'. It boggles my mind that you can walk into a store and purchase a shrink wrap heat sealing machine in cash and use it for a week and return it. I can think of no legitimate purpose for a person to need something like that. Supposedly this guy had been doing this kind of thing since he was a preteen. He told me while we were laying in bed that he started doing this with cellophane wrapped video games at the tender age of 12 and now focuses mainly on computer parts and consumer electronics. The fact that he had a little setup means he had gotten pretty adept at this and had never been caught or the consequences of having been caught were so minor that he can keep traveling internationally and do this without abandon.

How dare you as a man judge what a woman does with her own body. It simply infuriates me when Christian 'men' decide that patriarchy is 'for our own good' so they fell they can shame a woman for what she legally does with her own body but then justify criminal behavior of other men by telling themselves that 'oh well the victim had it coming'.

I cannot agree more with what you say. I just hate how people think that just because some one or something is well off it makes it OK to take and take advantage. You know I for one really enjoy that stores are willing to take things back when we suffer a bout of buyers remorse. For crying out loud most even take back things that are open with a smile. They can't resell those things but they do it to make us as consumers happy. Is it too much to ask that we as consumers don't punish them for their generosity ? The fact that this guy is resealing packages in cellophane is lower than low, not only is he taking advantage of the store he is eroding the trust and good will this store has built up in the community because the next person who gets this product would be [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]ed abs falsely blame the store. So he is stealing from the store twice, once when he takes home his shiny new gadget he didn't pay for and twice when he chips away at the good will other consumers have towards the victimized store.

Nevermind the fact that the Waltons alone make more money in one minute than Walmart employees make in an entire year.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...y-earn-more-minute-than-walmart-workers-year/

In reality, they are the biggest thieves.

They're not really helping anyone but themselves. They are only exploiting the desperation of the lowest working classes to do their "dirty work" for min wage.

Others will justify they contribute a lot to the economy.....

But hear this, maybe if they paid their employees more, their employees could also make significant contribution to the economy by spending more....Just saying....:sick::sick::sick:

Many rich people often just try to cheat taxes or wire their money to Switzerland or Cayman.

So who's really contributing more to the economy if given the chance???

Despite your sensational anecdote, I think it’s safe to say that as a society, we don’t really need to protect corporations from theft. They have plenty of protections already.
