Professional Climbers Are Laughing at Trump’s ‘Impenetrable’ Wall Claims
President Donald Trump is so proud of his big, beautiful wall, which he claims is unscalable. “This wall can’t be climbed. This is very very hard, and what the panel does at the top, as I said, it’s structural but it’s also very hard to get by that panel. Plus it’s designed to absorb heat, so it’s extremely hot. The wall is, you won’t be able to touch it, you can fry an egg on that wall,” Trump told reporters at a ceremony unveiling a newly built section of the wall in Otay Mesa, California earlier this week.

In fact, the president claimed, the government enlisted professional “world-class mountain climbers” to test different wall designs and evaluate which would be the toughest to scale. “We have, I guess you could say, world-class mountain climbers. We got climbers,” Trump said. “We had 20 mountain climbers. That’s all they do—they love to climb mountains… They’re very good, and some of them were champions. And we gave them different prototypes of walls, and this was the one that was hardest to climb.”

But actual professional climbers tell a different story. Not only do they doubt that any professionals, let alone twenty of the top mountain climbers in the game, would aid the Trump administration in a task like this, they also say the wall would not be difficult to scale.
I was reminded of something I recently saw proving no one could climb the wall:

Well, even if he decided to upgrade it with razor wire, electrical currents, or enchantment, there's always tunnels to go under and boats to go around.
And he knows that as well as anyone else. But the argument itself is phony since it is also true that a good wall will reduce illegal crossings, make it easier for the Border Patrol to do its job, and so on.

The "walls don't work" argument is entirely bogus, therefore, and especially since the Congressional leaders who use that argument themselves support a raft of public policies that they and everyone else know will not eliminate--absolutely--100%--whatever the problem is.

But they still favor welfare laws, housing developments for the homeless, increased expenditures on education, "motor voter" registration, and so on. None of them will solve the respective problem 100%, so should we ask why the sponsors are interested in passing those laws and appropriating those funds?

That statement may be laughable but this one not so much. In fact it’s down right scary when you consider the more highly delicate top secret information he’s able to nonchalantly disseminate.

Which is the top secret information?

Personally, I'm willing to give Trump his wall/fence if the REAL immigration problem is addressed. Which is the 11 million or so illegal immigrants already here. Many of who have lived here for years, and are working and paying taxes under assumed SSNs. The 2013 S.744 dealt exactly with this issue. It authorized 700 miles of physical barrier construction, along with more Border Patrol agents and electronic surveillance. And it provided a rational and humane pathway for otherwise law-abiding and gainfully employed undocumented immigrants to receive provisional legal alien status and eventually become citizens. The link has more details. Unfortunately, it wasn't even considered in the House.

Someone please tell me what is wrong with this

Make that about 26 million instead. The Democratic Party line has been that it's only 11 million...for quite a few years now.

Anyway, you are to be congratulated for saying you are willing to have the "REAL" immigration problem addressed. Too many politicians are of the opinion that since solving that problem would seem like an accomplishment of the President--and they cannot abide such a turn of events--they will oppose any steps in the direction of solving the problem in any way.

What you say applies to both sides. It's the pernicious effect of our politics being hijacked by these accursed "bases." The liberal base will fight tooth and nail against a wall. And the conservative base will do the same against anything resembling an amnesty. The tails wag the dogs so that neither side will compromise. And nothing substantive is ever accomplished. It's the most malignant aspect of modern American politics. But this is off-topic.

I'm not an advocate for any of those positions, you'd have to ask one.

I was in favor of what Trump proposed but the Democrats rejected - build/upgrade/repair walls where the Border Patrol actually wanted it, while increasing the courts and caseworkers for dealing with immigration fraud. But as the tunnels under San Diego's fence demonstrated, I am under no illusion that a massive wall will be circumvented, and I am not in favor of wasting the kind of money Trump wanted to spend on it.

I was simply calling these people and their arguments to mind.

Well, consider that we have spent, this year, many times more dollars on dealing with illegal immigrants than the comparatively small appropriation requested for the wall. If even a limited extension of the wall had been erected, it would have paid for itself.

It's an expensive problem in multiple ways, but how do we know that "a limited extension of the wall" would have paid for itself, and what size of extension are we talking about? Duncan Hunter wanted a $1 million wall, IIRC. How much does Trump want to spend?

Mexican men and boys are good climbers. Women and kids not so much. If you look at our overtaxed schools and emergency departments all you see is...women and kids.

Regarding working illegals paying into SS, let them fatten up the fund, then deport them.

How much does it cost us only in court costs to process claims.

Why go to that effort when a reciprocating saw will cut through it? You might fall!

Smuggling gangs in Mexico have repeatedly sawed through new sections of President Trump’s border wall in recent months by using commercially available power tools, opening gaps large enough for people and drug loads to pass through, according to U.S. agents and officials with knowledge of the damage.

The breaches have been made using a popular cordless household tool known as a reciprocating saw that retails at hardware stores for as little as $100. When fitted with specialized blades, the saws can slice through one of the barrier’s steel-and-concrete bollards in a matter of minutes, according to the agents, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the barrier-defeating techniques.

After cutting through the base of a single bollard, smugglers can push the steel out of the way, allowing an adult to fit through the gap. Because the bollards are so tall — and are attached only to a panel at the very top — their length makes them easier to push aside once they have been cut and are left dangling, according to engineers consulted by The Washington Post.

Defeated by leverage.

I suppose on a similar line, we also have a bit of a problem with refugees in Australia. Nothing like the US, since we don't share a land border with anyone else.

We've got a bad reputation for our policy on "boat people" ie. refugees trying to get in illegally by boat, which can by quite dangerous for them.

However a considerably larger number arrive by air, and then apply for protection visas.

The new 'boat people'? How Labor's focus on air arrivals only hints at new immigration challenge

So what are the figures?
Compared to five years ago, it's clear more people are now arriving by air and lodging protection-visa applications.

2014-15
⚫⚫⚫⚫ 8,562 persons

2015-16
⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫ 12,673

2016-17
⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫ 18,267

2017-18
⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫ 27,884

2018-19
⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫⚫ 24,520

Up to August 19, another 4,037 had made claims.
