Do you know that it was Moses that chiseled the words of the covenant on the stone tablets that rested in the Ark of the Covenant? Moses spent forty days hammering on those stones. Those who tell us the ten were written by God's finger are telling us a misnomer. The set of commandments that Moses dropped and broke into pieces were written by God's finger. I wonder why God had Moses write the second set? Were they perfect like the first set would have been?

Ex34:27 The Lord said to Moses: Write these words; in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel. 28 He was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Hi Bob, if you want to really be surprised, read the whole chapter of Exodus 34.

Perhaps it was a symbolic gesture. For Moses to break the first set foretold the breaking of the commandments by Israel. For Moses to have to re-write the second second himself, shows that Israel would live by the arm of the flesh instead of the Spirit.

The covenant given to Israel involved so many requirements compared to the covenant Jesus ratified at Calvary. Those that believe Jesus didn't fulfill, bring to an end the old covenant certainly have a lot on their plate to accomplish. Those who tell us that God doesn't change should read the account in Exodus where God was going to slay the Israelites for seeking another God and Moses talked Him out of doing that. God did make a really new covenant for all mankind. It is not the old one warmed over like some try to tell us. 2Cor3:6-11 is the account of the ten commandments fading away. The King James version tells us the ten are done away. That makes complete sense since the new covenant doesn't have a command to observe days. Any laws that deal with morality are in the Royal Law of Love.

How many were in the OT and how many are in the NT? I always hear there are 613 the OT and 1050 in the NT...

Bob, you didn't read Exodus 34 starting in verse one, ....YHVH said to Moses, cut two tables of stone like the first; and " I Will Write On The Tables The Words That Were On The First Tables, which you broke."

Moses didn't re-write the 2nd set ... God did.

Exodus 34:1

1Then the LORD said to Moses, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the original ones, and I (the Lord) will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you (moses) broke

I'd say more likely the symbolism was the people had broke covenant with God ... and in doing so ... Moses breaking the tablets was symbolic of them breaking the covenant (symbolic of the first set) that contained the law.

Do you know that it was Moses that chiseled the words of the covenant on the stone tablets that rested in the Ark of the Covenant?

Deut 4 summation of the Sinai event - 40 years later
11 “Then you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the midst of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness. 12 And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no form; you only heard a voice. 13 So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone. 14 And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you might observe them in the land which you cross over to possess.

36 Out of heaven He let you hear His voice, that He might instruct you; on earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words out of the midst of the fire.

Deut 5
22 “These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly, in the mountain from the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and He added no more. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.

Ex 31
18 And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

There is no "written with the finger of Moses" for the TEN Commandments in all of scripture - as we all know by now.

Ex 34:1 And the Lord said to Moses, “Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I will write on these tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke.

Mark 7 "The Word of God" the "Command of God"
6 He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:
‘This people honors Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
7 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men
.’
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men—the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.”
9 He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban”—’ (that is, a gift to God), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother, 13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

I merely accepted his premise. Tell Bob S and show the verse to him.

Yes, I read (and reread) the OP and the OP is correct, according to Gods Word.

God wrote the 10 ... both sets ... Himself ... on stone tablets.

Deuteronomy 4

13He (the Lord) declared to you His (the Lord) covenant, which He (the Lord) commanded you to follow—the Ten Commandments that He (the Lord) wrote on two tablets of stone.

Deuteronomy 10:2

I (the Lord) will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Then you are to put them in the ark."

Exodus 32

15Then Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands. They were inscribed on both sides, front and back. 16The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.

Deuteronomy 4

13He (the Lord) declared to you His covenant, which He commanded you to follow—the Ten Commandments that He (the Lord) wrote on two tablets of stone. 14At that time the LORD commanded me (moses) to teach you the statutes and ordinances you are to follow in the land into which you are crossing to possess.

"At that time ..." The 10 - written by God ... and during that same time period (40 days) ... moses wrote down the statues and ordinances in a book.

24When Moses had finished writing in a book the words of this law (statues & ordinances) from beginning to end, 25 he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD: 26 “Take this Book (not tablets) of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, so that it may remain there as a witness against you.

The 10 that the Lord himself wrote on the tablets of stone were put in the ark.

Pretty significant ... the 10 written by God in stone (not changeable) placed in the ark of THE covenant (under the mercy seat)

The hand written (statues & ordinances) ... not put IN the ark (of THE .. His Covenant) not UNDER the mercy seat ... but outside of it.

The 10 Commandments (on stone, written by God unchangeable) ... the statues & ordinances written in a book were later done away with (changeable).

People who are passing around God did not write the 10 Commandments Himself are the ones telling misnomers

OK. Does it really matter? Whose salvation is in jeopardy? This is merely an academic discussion, and not that important.
