At one time God gave David and Solomon their wives and their kingdoms and would have given them more if they had wanted it.
But eventually, David committed adultery and murder to get one more wife and Solomon went off the deep end and his wives made him go after gods.
So that by the time of Jacob in the BOM, the Lord looked on these 2 to have sinned against him, not because he gave them wives, but for other reasons and so all was dark for them.
Unless God commands plural marriage it is not to be done. If plural marriage is done in sin because one commits murder or adultery, then it is not a good thing from the Lord, because he did not command it. So listen to the Lord, right now he commands us to me married to one wife only. So that is what we do.
I've heard it all before. Mormons think their version of every issue is the correct version.
1 Chronicles 3
1 Now these were the sons of David, which were born unto him in Hebron; the firstborn Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; the second Daniel, of Abigail the Carmelitess:
2 The third, Absalom the son of Maachah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur: the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith:
3 The fifth, Shephatiah of Abital: the sixth, Ithream by Eglah his wife.
4 These six were born unto him in Hebron; and there he reigned seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years.
5 And these were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, four, of Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel:
6 Ibhar also, and Elishama, and Eliphelet,
7 And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
8 And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine.
9 These were all the sons of David, beside the sons of the concubines, and Tamar their sister.
God gave Adam one wife.
Jesus and Paul quoted Genesis 2:24. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his
wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (
Genesis 2:24).
Matthew 19
3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
4 And [Jesus]he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made
them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except
it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
The first instance of polygany is in Genesis 4:19. It was Lamech's decision.
Genesis 4
17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and
of such as have cattle.
21 And his brother's name
was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain
was Naamah.
Ephesians 5
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife
see that she reverence
her husband.
One man, one wife: the ideal.
Joseph Smith and Brigham young were sinful false prophets. Polygany wasn't God's plan.
