Jesus Christ our LORD died for us! Why?

To show us who He is, God, King, Priest and Man.
To prove His infinite love overcomes our worst, and brings forth living streams that bring the Dead Sea alive. To give His unbreakable Word, seal the promise with lifeblood and vanquish sin death and the devil. To open the eyes of the blind, jailbreak the prisoners and make the lame leap like deer.

And that's hardly scratchin' the surface.

Jesus Christ died to provide payment for our sins. Before Christ came sin could only be covered through Jewish temple sacrifice. With the blood of His very own son, sin can be permanently removed. Establishing Justification (Justified= Just-as-if-ied)-never sinned.

By dying for our sins, and rising from the dead the Lord Jesus Christ made it possible for us to be brought into a living relationship with God. Through His atoning sacrifice Jesus turned us away from the anger of God for our sin. If we repent of our sin and receive the free gift of eternal.life we can be saved!

Jesus Christ our LORD died for us! Why?

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. (John 3:16, NRSV)

"Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end."(John 13:1, NRSV)

He loves a miserable sinner as I know that I am. That brings me to tears in grief over my deep sinfulness; but also joy in knowing God loves me and has paid the penalty in my place and clothed me with his righteousness. Thank you for the question that made me reflect upon this.

Yes,but do you believe it was more than that? Thankyou for your reply,'Akita'.

Do you mean like some kind of payment or penal substitution? No.

I think he saves us by his moral example and teachings. I think his life and teachings were just as important as his death and resurrection.

Hi 'Akita' Do you believe what the Word of God says about Jesus dying for our sin? 'For God made Christ, who never sinned,to be the offering for our sin,so that we could be made right with God through Christ' (2 Corinthians 5:21)

How do you interpret that? Offering to the Father? Without which we cannot be saved?

I have a hard time with that. It makes God the Father sound transactional and really does not make much sense. Paul speaks from Old Testament law.

T"ransom theory of atonement is one of the main doctrines in Christian theology relating to the meaning and effect of the death of Jesus Christ. It originated in the early Church, particularly in the work of Origen. The theory teaches that the death of Christ was a ransom sacrifice, usually said to have been paid to Satan, in satisfaction for the bondage and debt on the souls of humanity as a result of inherited sin.[1]"

Historically not everyone has believed the offering was for the father

In the Old Testament a sacrifice had to be made with God for the atonement of sin. Only then could God and man be reconciled. In the New Testament they are used as illustrations of the perfect sacrifice that Jesus made to God for the forgiveness of our sin.It was a great transaction,God made for our salvation

Jesus' death is an atonement for sins. His sacrifice provides the way for people to say sorry to God for their sins. By personally confessing our sins to God through His Son Jesus, we are saying sorry to God for our sins. It is the way to be forgiven.

God is holy. He hates sins but He wants to redeem or save those who will turn to Him. By our own deeds. people cannot rid themselves of sins even though they try. Hence God sent His only begotten Son to atone for our sins.

The sacrifice that was paid to God through the death of the Lord Jesus Christ was God's way of bringing pardon and forgiveness to the sinner trusting in the name of Jesus
