'Eat Less Meat': 2020 Democrats Mull Changing Laws on Meat Consumption to Fight Climate Change

Eat Less Meat’: 2020 Democrats Mull Changing Laws on Meat Consumption to Fight Climate Change

Quote one:
During Thursday’s climate change town hall hosted by CNN, 2020 Democratic hopeful Kamala Harris — who consistently polls at the fourth spot among the others — was asked by an audience member if she supports changing “dietary guidelines to reduce the consumption of red meat in light of the impact of climate change.”

After first making it clear that “we have a problem in America,” Harris responded, “The answer is yes.”

“The balance that we have to strike here, frankly, is about what government can and should do around creating incentives and then banning certain behaviors,” she said.

Quote 2.
Asked if the American people should change their eating habits, 2020 Democratic primary contender Andrew Yang pointed to a U.N. study that revealed: “We’re going to be okay if the vast majority of the world goes vegetarian immediately.”

No, of course you're not joking, because they're right. Producing meat for human consumption uses a lot of energy and water and causes a lot of pollution (atmospheric carbon and otherwise).

Oh... wait... Do you think the idea is ridiculous? If so, what is incorrect about it?

I often reflect on the fact that there is nothing intrinsically wrong with ignorance. We are all ignorant of much more than we have knowledge of - by very many orders of magnitude. Where ignorance is problematic is when it is persistent and wilful in regard to serious matters. When the ignorance is embraced and the knowledge is mocked, or disregarded. Then the ignorance potentially impacts on us all. When the well being of my grandchildren, of the population at large, of the biosphere, is put at risk by such ignorance I run out of any justification to avoid calling that ignorance evil.

But that's just me.

i think eating less meat helps your digestive system. your stomach doesn't have to work so hard to break it down. and constipation will be a thing of the past. and it has nothing to do with climate change. climate change is a natural occurrence. man has nothing to do with it.

Those pesky Democrats. What are they going to say next? That the Earth isn't flat? Lol, hehehehe, just where did they get that wild idea? /s

In all seriousness, this post is absolutely correct.

It’s common knowledge that the production of meat pollutes the planet and produces greenhouse gasses. I know you don’t agree with climate change science, but is this really a new concept for you?

Producing food in general uses a lot of energy. So should we ban all commercial agriculture? That practically seems to be the goal...

Let's see, wheat is bad because it has gluten and causes coeliac disease, everyone is suddenly lactose intolerant and milking cows is cruelty, RoundUp has how many lawsuits against it all of a sudden? (also an indirect attack against GMO crops), and now meat production is apparently causing global warming...

People who don't live around farms have no idea how dependent they are on them for so many products. All these this-food-is-bad-this-food-is-good trends may or may not have some validity, but we're making things super difficult for the agricultural sector which is already struggling with tons of debt. A country that has to rely on other countries for food is in a really, really bad position. And for as much fertile ground as we have in the US, it would be shameful if our food industry collapsed.

The amount of meat eaten has nothing to do with global warming. It has everything to do with what the livestock are fed. That's where changes can be made without being ridiculous and refusing all meat.

“So I think it would be healthy on an individual and societal level to move in that direction. But again this is a country where there is a lot of individual autonomy and so you can’t force people’s eating choices on them. All do you know is try to shape our system so that over time we evolve in a productive way.”

If people stopped cutting down and burning forests, we would enjoy God's method of climate control. If the world is saying something, I immediately doubt it. Man's ways are not God's ways. The world system is controlled by Satan. Greed and corruption drives the destruction of the planet. Now the world system wants to blame people for just enjoying God's provision. Many people eat too much and have an unbalanced diet. A blanket ban on eating meat is just another demonic social engineering attempt that avoids the real problem.

Does he mean changing laws, raising taxes, false advertising and the other well proven methods to bully people into change?

If you don’t care about the climate, the overconsumption of red meat is also bad for your health.

But I know, we’re Americans. We don’t care about either of those things.

One of the problems is that we've been lied to so much that we don't trust the scientific community. A few decades ago, fat in food was declared a major problem. Since low fat diets became common, obesity rates have soared. The food industry does not help. They promote low fat foods but try to hide the sugar content. "99.00 fat free!" Yes, but 99% sugar also. And on and on it goes. What will be the next diet advice reversal I wonder?

I don't think it's necessarily healthy going vegetarian....

That said, the basic math of meat consumption suggests eating less would use less resources.

Is it your contention that if someone disagrees that a solution to the problems caused by a changing climate requires a radical reorganization of the world's economy and every individual's diet that it isn't because that person thinks it is not only too radical and that it will not actually solve the problem but it is only because that person doesn't care about anything?

Is there anything man does that doesn’t have an impact on climate?
On a large, world-wide scale, everything can have an impact on the climate.
