Yes

This right here is why we must be so careful to label people "false" or anything like that, people in the public eye can grow and change just like the rest of us.

I've always believed in being conservative on that. I've had so many people want to lecture or preach at me based on hearing a small part of what I was trying to say (and completely misreading it) that I have tried to not do that to other people.

But this sort of thing kind of confirms my skepticism of various things going on in that movement. Which is to say, Hinn often implied that he had an extra special something going on with the HS. Basically that if you disagreed with him that you were disagreeing with God himself and were going to pay for it to! And well, I had heart burn over this stuff as a young grad school kid in my twenties back to the early 90s. So that must mean I got an extra special "anointing" and should maybe right a book... :)

Ah, so repentance only works for poor people, I see.
His "repentance" remains to be seen. He can claim it all he wants, but until he demonstrates it in his actions, the jury is still out.

He's rolling in cash and living a life of luxury. Let's see how much of that he gives up to the poor.

I remain skeptical when it comes to him and any other lowlife like him.

Fair enough, repentance is demonstrated not just verbalized.

However, I will challenge you on this, yes he's already made millions (I knew that would come up), but given his status and history, announcing this puts tremendous pressure on others that are currently doing it. And, hopefully it might discourage some others from doing it in the future. Regardless of his personal financial status that would be a good thing.

Yep, just last week my wife and I were called a false prophets twice in the same week... from very bizarre sources too. (one guy was just walking by our building while we were painting)

My mentor always says, "Just because some people abuse the truth, doesn't me we refuse the truth". Every single movement has it's extremes and abuses. The trick is to learn to take the good and throw out the bad.

He should seek his repentance from God.

But what people would trust his ministry are all together another kind of people.

God doesn’t tell us to follow after false teachers after they say they’ve changed.

He ruined his own testimony.

This is my opinion, I don't feel God is saying anything about this, so this is simply me. I do feel led to say this because I used to meditate a lot on known Pastors.

I watched a documentary once where a man, who apparently had the prophetic gift, started his own group and he ended up convincing many people to commit suicide. A family member or someone who was in the group (I don't remember) said something like, he believes the man started with a valid revelation but ended with his own.

I believe God gives us the anointing to do missions, but then we end up doing our own thing and we create systems to do miracles instead of staying tuned to what God is doing and saying for that situation. I do believe in repentance and God welcomes anyone who repents. I cannot tell you if his repentance is real or not, only God knows, but we have to be careful that we don't start idolizing the miracles and the man instead of the Miracle Maker. The reason for the miracles is so we learn the nature of God, which is supposed to be our nature, not to gain fame, but to express love, and that is something hard to do when you are famous.

Yeah, the Bible is clearly clearly full of examples that promote people who messed up and ruined their testimony forever.

There's a difference between false and mistaken, a difference that we all here should be grateful for. By definition a false teacher would never do this.

If people can't be glad the when someone finally does the right thing, then the problem ceases to be with the other party and becomes their own.

No one has to start liking or trusting the guy (I've personally never been a fan), but let go of the hate. We don't wrestle with flesh and blood, we can be glad that the enemy has been exposed to more people.

Not really. Not in the context of what we have access to today with the internet and podcasts.

Second, what hate? I don’t care either way but I think people that start following him are gullible. Gullible is not hate.

Point one, I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Point two, you can dress it up however you want, but this attitude towards other Christians is neither respectful nor loving.

So how is it loving to put yourself and others in the hands of a ministry and teacher that has lost credibility?

Love does not mean you put yourself in a bad situation.

Love is putting people in the best situation and under the best teaching for their spiritual growth. God says to seek Him above all else. Love God with all your heart, soul and mind.

So you think BH is the best teacher to lead people spiritually?

If no, than isn’t it unloving to not seek the best spiritual teacher for people?

I'm not talking about other people or who teaches them. I'm talking about your attitude towards those people.

I don’t believe he is a good teacher. The judgement was by you that I was unloving.

I wouldn’t follow him. Too many awesome teachers out there.

Maybe the error is not mine. Maybe conclusions were jumped to.

My mentor always says, "Just because some people abuse the truth, doesn't me we refuse the truth". Every single movement has it's extremes and abuses. The trick is to learn to take the good and throw out the bad.

I haven't left the truth, I actually have friends who are in the Charismatic Episcopal Church, which was founded by a bishop named Randy Adler who was affiliated with Bill Hamon in the 80s to early 90s. I actually attend a CEC here when I can, since things became kind of weird when my wife stopped attending my Coptic Church, and worse when she actually divorced me.

But for the record, I did have a problem with the celebrity, big conference stuff of the prophetic churches. There is a lot of pressure to put on big conferences, run up huge tabs by living large (inviting all your friends and associates and putting them up in four star hotels, first class air fair etc.). In reality, it looks like a buddy system where everybody washes each others back in this way.

I grew up in an upper middle class household, better than most of the country. My dad was at the top of the pay scale for working for the government in a government laboratory installation for weapons design and testing. I think I know a bit about living well for the middle class but also economizing. But it didn't seem some of the prophetic minister folks learned those lessons, well they didn't seem to act like it. They pretty much acted like their congregation was an unlimited charge card. I think I'm pretty generous on the tithe and offering front (I think people should give at least 10% of their income and more in the way of offerings if they "feel led"), but these people were really pushing things with their multiple offerings etc. Some of the fund raising used did feel very manipulative etc., and had a lot of similarities to the techniques of high pressure salesmen (only such salesmen do not prophesy!). My best friend had a funny description of it he compared those sessions to the old Warner Brothers cartoons with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck etc. where they had a trope where a money grubbing person would grab someone by the ankles, turn them upside and shake all the dollar bills and change out of their pocket.

Yeah I wasn't suggesting anything like that about you. What you describe is exactly what I'm talking about. Those shortcomings... Which they are... Don't negate the entire ministry. If they did there would be no ministries left at all... Lol

All I'm saying is you don't have to like or follow the guy, but if he's embraced a truth that he didn't before that is a good thing and we should be happy about it... Sceptical, fine... But so far it's a good thing. To suggest otherwise, in my opinion, does not look good.

I actually haven't seen the celebrity big spending culture in episcopal churches of both the CEC and ECUSA (the charismatic, conservative end of that denomination). There seems to be something in non-denominational end of the movement. Everybody wants to have big glamours conferences that are advertised in Charisma magazine. And with that comes other things like renovations so your church looks really cool and can handle a big conference. etc.

This sort of thing did lead me to leave that movement. Basically I enrolled at Fuller Theological Seminary and they had a residency requirement similar to what is done in the various mental health professions, where they wanted you to meet with your pastor every week (Kind of a counseling session where you get feedback for your volunteer work in the church, as a kind of apprenticeship). But I realized that would not work out at all. Because the two pastors of the church were gone half the time traveling to conferences etc., and the program required at 40 to 50 hours of "supervision", basically an hour a week for most of a year.

That’s not what was said.

But you have a great day.
