Since a Pelagianism has been declared a heresy, then I don’t know any orthodox theology that says men are capable on their own to repent.

Which is why I keep asking why God grieved in His heart if He has made them incapable of repentance?

And the answer is still the same. He hates sin. And the effects of sin, which make men unwilling to repent.

Why do you think He grieved?

He grieved because God loves everyone. If He didn’t love those wicked men He wouldn’t have grieved. This indicates God’s expectations on them that they should repent but they didn’t. Sure He knew they wouldn’t repent even before creation but that doesn’t change the fact that He loved them and wanted them to repent of their own free will. So God had to have enabled them to repent in order to expect them to repent thus justifying His judgement on them by making them responsible for their own fate otherwise God Himself is ultimately responsible for their disobedience. He wants all men to repent and be saved and none to perish. God loves the sinner otherwise He wouldn’t love anyone in this world. God sent Jesus to save sinners because He loves them.

Do you have an issue with Pelagianism? I’m trying to see how your view differs.

My view differs because I believe God will call all to repentance but many will reject His calling and that is the cause of their demise.

How does that differ from Pelagianism?

How does that differ from Pelagianism?

Pelagianism teaches that we are not totally depraved and are capable of repentance without any help from God. I’m saying God will enable everyone to repent.

Is it safe to assume, then, that you hold to total depravity?

Not exactly I don’t believe we inherited Adam’s guilt of sin but we did inherit his fallen nature.
Fair enough. What does God do to enable people to repent?

I don’t know exactly
Fair enough. How does scripture describe these people? We have alive/dead. Blind/seeing. Lost/found. Where do these people who have been enabled fall?

I believe we are all dead from birth. We are blind by our own stubbornness and we can be lost for several reasons. Perhaps we prefer sin over serving God, perhaps someone is lost because they are angry at God for the hardships in their life, I think there can be many reasons for someone being lost.

That doesn’t really address my post. The Bible, not you or me, uses these terms. In Reformed Theology, they actually mean something. We don’t really have a middle ground. We can use them to describe the regenerate and unregenerate, the elect and reprobate.

So, in your theology, where do those who have been enabled to repent fall in those descriptions?

A person who has been enabled to repent can fall into all of these descriptions. If a person who has been enabled to repent chooses not to and rejects the gospel he remains blind and dead. If a person who has been enabled does repent but falls away afterwards he is lost and also dead if he does not repent.

Interesting. So whether we are alive or dead, lost or found, blind or seeing, has nothing to do with God, but is a result of our own decision. Am I getting close?

No I wouldn’t say it has nothing to do with God if He must first enable is to repent before we can repent. If it were not for His grace we would be incapable of repentance. So He plays the bigger part of our salvation.
