"He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels." (Rev3:5)

"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. (2Peter3:9)

Some people believe that everyone's name is written in the Book of life from the foundation of the world. So their name has to be blotted out of the book of life if they are to perish. David talks about how God writes the book of our life before we are even born.

"Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be." (Psalm 139:16)

I think whenever a life comes into the world, their name is written in the book of life. If they go on to perdition (the opposite of born again), the name is blotted out. There are Calvanists that believe all the names of those who will be saved are in that book, I don't think so.as a matter of fact I think this is figurative language and there is no literal book. Should you be lost forever your name is blotted from the book. Apparently that's how the condemned or sorted from the redeemed at the Great White Throne Judgment.

I saw a literal book. I had a dream where I saw my daughter in Heaven. Her angel was reading a book and later on I learned that the book is the one David was talking about for my daughter. She was killed by an IUD which I am told is rare. So She was only maybe one week past conception, yet the book of her life had already been written. We know about DNA and how we receive gifts, talents and abilities at conception.

If you run a google search on Library in Heaven there is quite a bit of discussion about that.

Your names are written in the lamb's book of life from the foundation of the world.
One way to know that is true is Hebrews 4 says, God rested from all His works on the 7th day.
And also mentions those who will not enter His rest.

Hebrews 3 says people can not enter in because of UNBELIEF.

12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; 13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

Failure of the Wilderness Wanderers
16 For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? 17 Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Hebrews 4 makes the point, God rested from all His works on the 7th day, and that would include all those names who are written in the book of life of the Lamb who are reserved for salvation by Him in the last time.

People enter into God's rest because of their belief in Christ. An evil heart of unbelief departs from God, Hebrews warns them in the church to not depart as they will not be saved if they do, which of course to us is obvious, that only those who have faith in God through Christ are saved. God keeps us by the power of God through faith, meaning His power is manifested to us by our faith in Him which is given to us by His grace.
Hebrews was written to Hebrew believers in Christ and the book is exhorting them to remain in Christ and the excellency of the NC versus the OC. And that there is no going back to OC ways with God, there is no grace left in the OC faith, it has been superseded by the new. No turning back is possible.

Hebrews 4 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Promise of Rest
4 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:

“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”

although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; 5 and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”

6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, 7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.
10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

Acts 15:17-19 New King James Version (NKJV)
17 So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name,
Says the Lord who does all these things.’

18 “Known to God from eternity are all His works. 19 Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God,

And
John 6:28-29 New King James Version (NKJV)
28 Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”

29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

And
Hebrews 4
3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:

“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”

although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; 5 and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”

How many can make the obvious connection here?

It is our name that defines who we are. Without our "name" we are nothing but dust. For dust you are, and to dust you return. That our names are written in the book of life means that He remembers who it is that He will resurrect. When our names are blotted out it means that we, the very person that we are , is forgotten and can never be returned to life.

This may have been the reason Jesus wrote in the dust when the scribes and Pharisees acted in a merciless way towards the woman caught in adultery. His reference is found in Jeremiah 17:13.

Jeremiah writes: LORD, you are the hope of Israel; all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the LORD, the spring of living water.

The discussion was between Calvin, Wesley and Joseph Smith. 100 years later the discussion is still going on. It all has to do with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God told Adam and Eve NOT to eat from that tree. The serpent was involved in their decision to eat from the tree.

The word is not "dust" it is "earth". This is a reference to our dwelling place here on the earth. If we do not have living water then we become stagnant and the result is death. God desires to dwell in us. He wants to become a part of His Creation. This is symbolized through marriage. God made them male and female, man and women so that they could be united together and become one. They refer to this as to "run and return" some people refer to this as the cycle of life.

"17He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone inscribed with a new name, known only to the one who receives it." Rev2

The thought I get from this is the same nevertheless. A lump of "earth" (lifeless chemicals) without a "name" (DNA and all that makes up a person) is simply a lump of formless matter.

But when we organise the earth according to the "name" that is written in the book of life then we create a person (not that we can do this but He does). The new name He gives reflects the spiritual resurrection body that Paul refers to. We are thus ressurected according to the "name" He gives us, a very long name.

The dust of the earth is "formless matter". Even there is more to dust then you seem to realize. The concept of the Earth has to do with the cycle of life. As the Earth goes around the Sun year after year there are changes taking place on the Earth.

True, but when matter from the earth is used as material in biogenesis, information is added. In the case of a person I am suggesting that this information, at least in part, is the name that is written in the book, just as it is written into each cell in our bodies.

If the creator remembers our name He is then able to resurrect us, perhaps with a new or modified name from whatever material He chooses to use. If He forgets our name, removing it from the book of life so to speak, then resurrection is no longer possible.
