For those who insist that because the President is in a position of authority, one shouldn't critique him: Who did the prophets of the Hebrew scriptures rail against most? The kings. The title "King" does not by default confer virtue upon that individual. Same goes for presidents. We can honor and respect the office, while simultaneously calling attention to a problem when we see one. Were the prophets dishonoring God when they called out the kings of Israel and Judah? Of course not. On the contrary, to see a problem with someone in authority and to not address it is to dishonor the office and the One who confers authority.

I fully agree with Chadrho. The fact of the matter is, "respecting authority" does not excuse bad behavior, lack of fitness for leadership, and injustice...all of which are occurring during the Trump Presidency. We can pray for him and pray for the office of presidency, but we should never excuse his terrible rhetoric, nor his utter lack of grace toward his critics. This is a democracy for goodness sake. He was elected to serve the needs of America, not the other way around.

At which point do you stop excusing it?
When the opposition party presents a candidate who exhibits greater mental clarity and political acumen.

It's not complicated. Poor Joe. Poor Nancy. Poor Elizabeth. Kamala may have mental clarity ... but she's angry. Really angry.

The most frustrating thing about being a Christian in America is that neither the Republican or Democratic Parties really understand or care about being the average Christian in America. Say what you will about their politics and policies, but both Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush were pretty much the only ones I can think of, but other than that both political parties don't really care about faith at all

Greenland highlights Trump’s willingness to offend close US allies

From his behaviour over Greenland to sending a hostage negotiator to Sweden, should American be worrying about senility and the President?

At which point do you stop excusing it?
Well, for me, when I stopped excusing his behavior it was actually in the 1990s, as I saw him on TV interviews and read antics in the NYTimes. And then this whole not-good picture was sharply made worse in early '16, when Trump said:

It was a sudden moment that was chilling. It's one thing to be very ego driven, but it's another entirely to reference even hyperbolically murder-is-ok as an example of how devoted your followers are (most would not all tolerate an actual murder done in an obvious way of course). It was a telling choice of example. So why would only normal mental decline matter after that see. But about decline, I think he's a great salesman, and will say whatever is needed to trick and mislead people, moment to moment -- so is he really in decline politically? But the thing is, unless Russia controls the election again in by fooling some number of people in a few close swing states, I think more people see through him by now, and I can't see him being reelected without the election being hacked and manipulated. How would 100% support from his 'base' overcome the a strong and decisive majority of Americans wanting someone else?

See, most Americans just want someone that does better.

Not this again...
I have an honest question for you. How do memes like this genuinely contribute to a meaningful discussion? By having this dismissive attitude (by the way, you're using a cheap, scientific explanation to address deeper socio-political issues that have years of history behind it...not very intelligent of you), how are you being productive? Or do you just find amusement in being a troll? In the case of the latter, I feel sorry for you

It's my signature. It's at the bottom of every one of my posts and has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Sorry. I'm an idiot.
No, you're just a new forum member. :) Welcome to christian forums.

By the way, my comment was directed at the fact that every time an older politician slips up somehow, people start crying dementia. I find it tasteless.

Happened with George W Bush too. Guy is still doing fine.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Donald Trump has more than a few times recently thanked God that the Russia collusion narrative is ending as it is.

Hey! It's those New Testament passages that were miraculously removed from scripture January 20th, 2009 and just as miraculously restored January 20th, 2017!

Then there ate those that who discovered those passages in Jan 2009 and had their memories of them wiped as clean as Hillary's emails in Nov 2016.

On this particular subject I fully agree with Speedwell.

The United States is a constitutional republic. The power of government ultimately rests with "We the People" not the mere President. The "powers that be" are the three coequal branches of the government, with the first among those equals being the Congress, not the President or the Executive Branch which he heads.

And so we do. I hope not in vain.

No, not "so to speak." Our loyalty and honor belong to the Constitution, not the person of the President.

Look to yourself in that regard.

To suppose that Trump is Ordained of God is blasphemy. He is not in any case our "Commander in Chief" He is only Commander in Chief of the military.

I hope you enjoyed telling me things.
My father was stationed in Germany after the war. He was one of the first to liberate the concentration camps. He want back 20 years later and he said he could still smell the burnt flesh. The Principal of my high school was also my history teacher. He was a German "Jew" that escaped Germany right before the Holocaust. So for me what went on there is very real.
