This sort of thing is not unknown. During the late 1940's and well into the 1950's Charles Templeton was one of the leading evangelists in North America. He was a contemporary and close friend of Billy Graham and even travelled and roomed with him on joint crusades. Some, at the time, regarded him as a greater evangelist than Graham himself. In 1957, just following his greatest crusade ever, and after a long period of soul searching, he turned his back on his ministry and walked away from it. He said to himself, in effect, “how can I stand here and preach passionately to these people when I know that I am not preaching the truth.” One has to admire his honesty.

Wow. I saw the piece and he raised some interesting points. I don’t think he’s alone. I believe there are many with similar questions who feel unfulfilled. Christian settings don’t always help. Sometimes they make things worse. I wish him peace.

John Mason is right.

John Mason, founder of the God First, Life Second movement, said Sampson’s falling away demonstrates that “our minds are directly related to our spiritual position.”

“When sound biblical theology is neglected for an American, spiritualized, cultural friendly replacement, exposure to that theology will naturally turn away a mind, heart & soul that has never submitted to that eternal truth. In other words, the falling away is the right response,” he tweeted.

“The good news is, by God's grace, he and others still have an opportunity to believe in Christ through the truth of the Gospel, be disciplined and trust fully in God's Word with the help of the Spirit. We should pray that someone will talk alongside them and show them the truth.”

Submit to God for all He pleases to do with us. He knows who He is, and all He is committed to doing with us. The Bible is a match with what I find God doing in me.

The quotes in the article show me the person has gotten into basic atheistic apologetics . . . nothing original or creative, at all.

It looks like he is not at all dealing with what the Bible says is real Christianity. If this is correct, he has left what is not Biblical Christianity.

He talks about how he is for loving, being kind. But if he thinks this is what anyone can do, this leaves out how God makes us able to be kind and caring. How humans can be humane is not as good, because in our human nature we can stay weak enough to deeply suffer various sorts of torment. While we might care about others and about ourselves, our human nature keeps us weak so we can get in deep trouble when hard things come against us.

But Christianity, in my opinion now, is not first for us. First, God's grace favors Jesus and changes us to become and love like Jesus. Jesus is the One so pleasing to our Father; so God first is committed to changing us to be so delighting to Him like His own Son. And we experience this, as we grow in how Jesus is. And being able to love like this . . . halleluiah :)

This was the first thing that came into my head,

1 Tim. 3:6
Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Born - 1979
In Ministry 1998-99

I know it's 20, but he was raised in the Church and helped along because of that, I feel there might have been to much emphasis placed upon his Music, and not enough on his understanding as a Christian, and it got the better of him.

I have seen on TV for years, 10 - 11 year old's singing Love songs they have no clue as to what they are saying expressing, it just sounds phenomenal for them to be doing it.

Same thing, he was singing about something he would read about but had no depth of understanding, even though it may have moved may Christians, my self included, when he first came out.

You are correct. I was saved at the tender age of 9.All of my friends were Christians, but the world and the things of the world was very seductive. All of us backslid. But Lord Jesus continue his Love for us. I was young and stupid, and did not understand the love of God. But my elders continued to pray for me and eventually I found my way home. I strayed but Jesus found me and brought me back to the fold. Praise God!:clap::clap:. You would not think I got envovled in some of the things I did. I was truly the prodigal. That is why I said he will be back.We need to keep him wraped in prayer asking our Father to rescue him.
Matt. 18: 11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.

14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish

I'm not a CCM fan, so I'm not familiar with his work. Did he write any songs that even begin to deal with the issues he's talking about? And where did he attend church?

Well, he was part of Hillsong. And I don't read CCM magazines as well. But I do follow Christian Post on Facebook and I follow several Christian celebrities like Ken Ham and the Benham Brothers and dr. Michael Brown.

But he wrote By Your Side and Surrender. Any wrote a lot of other songs, and some of them were on Darlene Zschech albums. He also sang with Delirious. I just am a little shocked.

Thank you so much for your testimony. I struggle myself and I just gave up on God. But I feel the pull of God calling me back. And I just recently started putting my trust in him again. I thought it could be too late but after your testimony I feel that there is hope. So, thank you very much for your testimony.

Bethel does a lot of things that don't agree with scripture. I hope he is led to try a different place of worship.

Well, I do like Hillsongs music, but I haven't really tested their teaching with scripture. So, I am not aware or whether they are scripturally sound or not in their teaching.

  • Oh he will be back. Lord Jesus is The Good Shepherd .:amen: :prayer:

Thank you for that. I hope and pray that you are right. But I have no right to judge because I left the Lord as well. But I am coming back.

But some of his questions are questions that I still ask today. I still question God about why he sends people to hell. But I also recognize the I have no right to question him. So I understand why he felt the way that he feels.

But I am trying to come back because of that fear of hell and wrath. And some Christians will tell me that I am wrong for obeying God out of fear, or wanting to obey God out of fear. But then I ask, why would God would send people to hell if he didn't want us to obey him out of fear?

So, there's a lot of things that I don't understand about God. And I understand how he feels.
