Hi everyone. I really am confused about the story of the adulteress woman. I’ve read that most scholars agree that it was a later addition and isn’t original. Does this bother anybody else?
What ?
Why should it bother anyone at all ?

because wouldn't be part of the bible?
Well, think for a while .... 'selah' .... meditate upon this while pondering Scripture and Yahuweh's Kingdom, seeking Yahuweh's Wisdom and Knowledge instead of man's wisdom and knowledge ....

There's so many doctrines, teachings, practices, and so forth, that are actually opposed to all Scripture,
why would a part of Scripture today that is not (supposedly) in the original make any difference ?

Yes, there are people who say it was added later. I think this is because some older manuscripts translated are said to not have the report about the adulteress.

But > to my knowledge, for you to do what you can to evaluate > just because certain manuscript sources are older, this does not automatically mean they are more reliable. I have understood, also, that the older ones without the adulteress report were found in Egyptian areas and elsewhere, other than from where the ones with the adulteress report were found.

Older ones could survive if the church was not using them and therefore they were not worn out. Younger manuscripts could be the only ones found in a region because older ones had been used and worn out. So, I don't automatically assume older means more reliable.

But others possibly believe there is more to this, in any case; plus, ones who want something to be true can argue what they want to be true. So, I say God knows.

And my personal experience is the report about the adulteress is a fit spiritually with principles of how Jesus loved and related and did things, and His example for how He wants us to love.

You don’t think it’s a little bit bothersome if the conversation Jesus had with the adulteress woman is just made up and not true?

Yes, good, being in line with the rest of Scripture is most important, not ever contradicting any Scripture , nor being opposed to Yahuweh's Plan and Purpose in Yahushua Hamashiach (Jesus Messiah Savior).

so I’m guessing it doesn’t bother you? That was my question. Does it bother other people.
Don't guess.

Any false teaching, doctrine, practice, dogma of any kind , any false teacher or false prophet,
is what needs to be taken care of within Ekklesia. We won't or might not be able to change any of the groups that hold to something that is false, nor should we try unless directed to do so by Yahuweh Sovereign Creator, our Father in Heaven.

While seeking the truth, continually as we are supposed to,
we find that most of all we are taught while growing up is false.

Does this "bother you" ? Or rather, what can anyone do about this ?

I understand what your saying. Ive anyways found it a little weird that words written in red could possibly be something made up. I won’t say it is made up because I don’t know but even the possibility bothers me quite a bit. Was just curious what others thought. Thanks

The story is correct to the timeframe. It was the Feast of Tabernacles and Talmudic sources record that adultery and prostitution was so rife during it that the priests and rabbis decided to shut it down shortly before the destruction of the temple.

Josephus described it as a party to end all parties. "One has never known joy unless he has been to Jerusalem during Tabernacles."

The priests garments from the previous year were used as wicks for giant oil lamps atop the Temple Mount. Even at the darkest part of the night the entire town was as bright as midday.

To the accusers of the Lord, finding such a woman would be very easy to do as it was all out in the open. The booths had no doors and very little roof.

They say, but I have not seen obvious proof. Every supposedly added item that I am aware of is Biblical in principle and doctrine and matches with how God wants us to become like Jesus and love any and all people while sharing as His family with Him and one another. So, if you are going to feed on God's word, this needs your attention first and most of all, I would say.

And no variation of manuscripts, to my knowledge . . . of the ones used to translate God's word, I mean > no variation is contrary to first becoming like Christ and loving as family while caring for those who need to be saved.

And it is my opinion that the only way you can make sure is if you have the ability to personally communicate with God and make sure with Him.

Does John 7:53-8:11 belong in the Bible? | GotQuestions.org

Because we’re talking about certain editions of the Bible being “wrong” in certain ways, we should include a few words on the inerrancy of scripture. The original autographs are inerrant, but none of the original autographs are extant (in existence). What we have today are thousands of ancient documents and citations that have allowed us to (virtually) re-create the autographs. The occasional phrase, verse, or section may come under scholastic review and debate, but no important doctrine of Scripture is put in doubt due to these uncertainties. That the manuscripts are the subject of ongoing scholarship does not prove there is something wrong with God’s Word; it is a refining fire—one of the very processes God has ordained to keep His Word pure. A belief in inerrancy underpins a reverent, careful investigation of the text.

But even if it matches Gods character isn’t it still wrong to say Jesus said something he didn’t? What’s the point in doing that?
