Preferred dress code for church

Anyway, back to business, after some off-topic posts, also, thanks. It means a lot to me. Truth is, I am terrified of being the real me around anyone, let alone anyone I find attractive.

I find having a dress standard can cause the poor to feel like it's not a place for them, which is kind of the opposite of Jesus' intention.

I generally wear jeans and a nice shirt. We have a mix of what people wear at our church. Our pastor used to wear a suit but one Sunday he greeted a visitor at the door who was poorly dressed and the visitor told the pastor he felt out of place because the pastor looked so well dressed , so he left.

I voted business casual but I tend to get hot in crowded rooms and start to sweat. I had to leave church more than once for overheating. I've been attending a traditional Methodist service lately where the majority are senior citizens. They range from suit and tie to shorts and sandals.

You should look your best. Remembering that this is a marriage ceremony to the Lamb of God. There are scriptures where we get thrown out into darkness for not being dressed appropriately Matthew 22:11-13

And although the scripture is referring to other aspects of religion, it clearly spells out something regarding dress code.

I’m in several sewing communities. Knitting is popular with younger women. Its developed a social network and a cool vibe. Garment sewing is more popular with middle-aged women and moms.

It takes very little time to prepare that outfit and make the effort to present ourselves well, so why not?

We make more effort than that for an interview in the company of humans so why would you dress casually in the company of god?

The churches I’ve attended were casual. The synagogues dressed more formally. I prefer the latter.

The 2nd is what we do generally, and sometimes a halfway between the 2nd and 3rd during the summer, in that we might wear casual shorts/dresses that are not 'completely' casual, and remain modest, and look nice.

Basically, we don't tend to notice anyone's clothes, and that's the standard kinda: that the clothes don't draw any attention typically, unless it's a little girl in an easter dress. So, the common thread is 'modest' really.

I was told by a Catholic that shorts is out of the question in church. I wear shorts if the weather is warm. I see no problem with that. What not to wear is clothes that are revealing, but that goes for everywhere, not just church. What also should be avoided in church, is clothes that promotes stuff that are taking our attention elsewhere, like Star wars t-shirts, and obviously also stuff that is against the Kingdom of God.

All those who arrive to weddings in shorts and casual wear....are kicked out! I wouldnt go to an interview in shorts.....isnt the Lords house more respectable?

That's fine, needed, to act in faith. But be sure to also get the real message regarding wedding clothes of that parable, similar to the message of the ten virgins parable.

I understand your reasoning, but I don't believe we are to make too much fuss about clothing. I don't believe God cares that much about how we dress, rather where our hearts are.
