Should be. I use shoot, sugar, darn, crud, fudge, and heck.
That is surely the most American post I have ever seen. I immediately imagine a Western or a Far Side cartoon.

It is a good topic...

I avoid words that substitute for Jesus as taking His name in vain is a serious issue.

These are Geeze crumbs crikey Christ - just a personal preference not a law.

Generally I consider that as I carry His presence I want to keep His temple clean and free of graffiti.

It is not so much the syllables that come out of your mouth; rather, it is the attitude in your heart. If it is the SAME attitude ....

If I say BANANAS!!! when I have hit my thumb with a hammer, do you really in you heart believe I didn't actually say ^$*))))&# +@>"~ instead

Mat. 15:11
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Jer. 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

No substitution is not acceptable, as a Christian we are supposed to be.

Rom. 8:29
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Can't you just imagine hearing Jesus Christ substituting?

If you think it's ok, your just kidding yourself.

In my case, yes. I do not immediately think of the word being substituted out (and, to tell the truth, I don't know what BANANAS substitutes for anyway).

But say "sugar" or one of those f-word substitutes that are popular now...and my brain right away tells me what word you were trying to avoid. Maybe other people aren't that way, but why take the chance if you are going to choose a substitute at all?

Can't you just imagine hearing Jesus Christ substituting?

If you think it's ok, your just kidding yourself.

I think this misses the point. No, Jesus would not be doing this, but its not a morals issue.

It is just a gimmick that can help people get away from the habit of using swear words. Its like using candy cigarettes or chewing gum when you are trying to quit smoking.

I just had this thought come into my head
I use the word Dangit instead of Dammit since thats a word that people shouldn't really be saying is it ok to use different better words to replace swear words?

Ephesians 4:29
29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

James 3:10
10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing a cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

Colossians 4:6
6 Let your speech be always seasoned with grace...

Just think of the words you would say if you smashed your thumb with a 20oz. hammer.

It was an example I could have also said Q Tips it's actually the same word when substituting.

Okay. My point was just this--if anyone is going to do it, choose something that isn't obvious. It needn't be foolishly juvenile, like "Gee Whiz," but it shouldn't be almost the same as the curse word. Doing that undercuts your purpose. I hesitate to use any of them here, but you know what I mean.

It really is a matter of changing the heart (which only God can do), not a matter of changing words.

Matthew 15:18 NASB
[18] But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man.

If one must say something, one should say something that doesn't substitute for a cuss-word:

I fully understand what your saying, but anyone who has the time to substitute words like that is conscience of what they are doing, which means to them they are still saying the word just changing it, so others won't know that a Christian cusses like a Sailor too, and in order for someone to do the substitution, they would have to conscientiously think about it beforehand and chose a word they think will express what they want without anybody knowing what they are doing or what that have just expressed out loud in public.

Just stop cussing, God would be much more impressed at your effort. :amen:

Well, it worked for me whereas quitting "cold turkey" would not have worked; this is a bad habit, not something we think over before each utterance.

But I had to have a number of words that I felt comfortable saying in order for it to become natural and not sound ridiculous...and that is something that you have to achieve or it doesn't work at all.

If you can learn not to curse, they will be no need to substitute curse words. Most people curse when they're angry or frustrated about something or someone, when you find yourself in a situation where you need to curse or substitute curse words, ask God to calm you and hand the situation/person over to Him. God bless

Not really. I think spirtually it's rather like lusting for another man's wife without physically having sexual intercourse with her.

But most of us do it.
