Is it a sin to befriend a gay person?

one thing that bothers me is how many Christians attacks people for being gay. You can say something is a sin but to make someone feel less than loved is not good way. Trying to make them less than feeling loved by God is wrong. I try to go with the path Jesus takes and befriend others. Not attack

It is wrong NOT to befriend them if they wanted to be your friends just because they are homosexuals.

Homosexuals cannot choose their desires. They are attracted to the same-sex and this is something they cannot control. (They can control whether to practice it or not like us heterosexuals though, but it is none of our business what they choose to do)

The Christian advice? -> Be their friends, love them and take care for them as any other friend you have. Just don't approve any homosexual practices or anything wrong in their lives as "good" or "fine". (You wouldn't do that with yourself or other friends so don't do it with them. Even if they try to convince you, remember your love for the truth of God. The love of the truth doesn't stand against the love of others)

Example? You can always support them in their studies, emotionally, financially, be a good listener..etc do all sort of things good friends do. But when it comes to their homosexual practices, if they try to push it on you as "morally correct" just tell them that you don't want to go further in that topic or that you value them for who they are (their human soul not body) but not for what they do. If they get too bothered or pushy then that person doesn't respect your comfort zone and you should rethink keeping them in your contacts.

And of course don't engage in any celebration or praise of homosexual marriage or homosexuality. I know this will be hard, but we should be wise enough to balance our friendships and keep things under control without hurting others.

Remember that befriending them =/= approving or supporting their beliefs.

Scripture teaches not to yolk yourself to unbelievers. "for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness."
In general this verse is applied to marriage. However, it can be applied to friendship.
This doesn't mean you should avoid unbelievers at all costs. We have to be in this world, but not a part of it.

Christians don't "attack" gay people. We speak out against it, because gay people are pushing their sin on our children, as thought it wasn't sin. They teach evil for good, and good for evil.
We're against homosexuality no more or less than any other sin. Because all sin is sin.

Also, Jesus wasn't friends with sinners. He didn't "hang out" with them. Usually they came to him and he would teach them righteousness.
He didn't go out and do the things that they did.

Are you referring to a specific friend of yours?
If so, have you taken the time to share with this person the Gospel message of Jesus Christ?
Do they reject that message?

First and foremost is remember what Jesus said in Mark 12:30-31.

The tolerance of homosexuality among Christians is a result of the political correctness movement.
Why are you so afraid to speak out against sin?

Because it is none of our business. The Bible is there and churches are there.

If they ask us personally, we should lead them to the Bible and give them an honest answer. But so long as they don't want our input then pointing their sins out is mere judgement and is rude.

You can be friends with people you disagree with. If you couldn't you would only have one friend: yourself. ;)

I have found in reality that statement is a myth and a negative stero-type that many people , particularly non-Christians love to repeat, but in reality it is dubious. I personally never encountered any Christians who have ever attacked people for being gay, I have however overheard non-Christians do this.
In answer to your question, of course it is not a sin to befriend gays. How else do Christians reach out & form positive relationships with the non-Christian community and share their testimony?

Jesus hung out with a very small group of people whom he kept close....I'm thinking that those people would count as his friends, while the lepers and tax collectors who he helped, he was trying to heal those people, but he was not friends with them? right?

oh this is a tough question for me....

I want to say he is our friend always, but yet, dont we all keep a tight knit circle of trusted people as our friends?

are friends actually anyone at all, bc we are their brother and sister in Christ?:help:

I wouldn’t immediately jump to a conclusion that a homosexual is a non believer. Now if this person doesn’t have conviction over their homosexuality, I would seriously question the integrity of their faith. I am not in support of homosexuality or any type of sexual immorality. But I do realize people have struggles that we may not have experienced but have struggles of our own.

So my advice would be if this person is a believer and this is something they struggle with, I see a huge call for discipleship. A Christian friend would be really good for someone like this. But if they are not a believer, treat them as such and share the truth.

There are different levels of "friendships" --the Bible states we are to be in the world but apart from it. We are also told not to marry the world i.e or a non-believer, we don't join with the world, that would be to be "unevenly yoked", but as believers we are to be salt and light to the unsaved community, we are to be good neighbors, and give our testimony and save souls by this.

When an entire society is forcing a sin on us and our children. Being taught in schools, being punished at work for having different beliefs...yes it is our business.

Scripture teaches to judge righteously. So that's not "mere judgement".

What does God tell us about the tendency to set one's affections on things of the earth rather than on heavenly things. (Colossians 3:2)

Friendship with the world is enmity with God... (James 4:4)

It is sinful to love this present world; and indulge its values more than we love heaven and order our lives according to heavenly values (Philippians 1:21-23; Romans 8:5-6; Matthew 6:19-21; Matthew 16:23).

We should lay our lives down for our friends. I wonder what this would look like for gay friends? Maybe share with them some of your own thoughts or struggles and, yes, show them how homosexuality is not conducive to life as created to be.

but didnt jesus curse capernaum for not repenting?

But Jesus died for every single soul. Including those.

Also Jesus is God. We are the children. Siblings are not meant to take the parent's role over each others.
