In one of the largest drug busts in U.S. history, federal authorities in Philadelphia seized nearly 20 tons of cocaine—worth about $1 billion— last month from a ship owned by JP Morgan's asset management arm.n one of the largest drug busts in U.S. history, federal authorities in Philadelphia seized nearly 20 tons of cocaine—worth about $1 billion— last month from a ship owned by JP Morgan's asset management arm.

Hi waves,

Yea, when those ships try to sail across our southern border President Trump has declared that he's going to stop them from bringing drugs across and it looks like he's doing it.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

Drug shipments by JP Morgan's asset arm via ship into Philadelphia hardly seem related to the southern border security.

Hi V,

I would agree, however, that seems to be why we need a southern border wall... to stop the illegal drugs that are pouring into our country and killing our people. It's practically the biggest issue that is supposedly being addressed as to 'why' we need a wall.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

The wall would have a negligible impact on illegal drug smuggling as the majority comes in via legal ports of entry and mainly by sea.

We're probably not going to put a wall in the shipping lanes out in the Atlantic ocean.

This is a story about 20 tons of cocaine. Which is more than was siezed at the border in 2017 or any year going back to 2010.

See page 52

The figure on page 52 reports:
For reference 2017 southern border seizures of cocaine: Conversion 13,205.44 KG
1 Ton is aprox 907.185 KG
13,205.44KG = 15.44 Ton

I'm pretty sure miasm, ited was being cheeky

It doesn't matter. I was taking the opportunity to directly compare the idea of moving drugs across the border verses smuggling them in via a port.

20 tons is just big number. When we're talking about "133% of the entire amount of cocaine seized at the southern border in an average year", then we can adequately recognize the relative dangers of drugs coming over the border vs drugs smuggled in from elsewhere.

Then we can then ask ourselves relevant questions about policies like wall building to really wonder why building a barrier would help us keep out drugs when people who do smuggle drugs over the border usually use vehicles and are coming in through ports and checkpoints that already exist.

Hi variant,

Obviously my point was higher than I intended it to be. It seems to have flown over a lot of heads.
