"Created as part of her final-year project entitled “A Solution for Manspreading", Laurel also created a second chair intended for women which uses a small piece of wood in the centre of the seat to encourage female sitters to rest with her legs parted, allowing them to take up more space."
She says,"“I designed and created these chairs in order to identify and challenge problems surrounding the act of sitting that might potentially be more gender specific, such as ‘man-spreading’.”
So her solution was to force men to crunch their legs together while pinching something in there AND making a chair for women which forced them to spread their legs which is unacceptable for a man who has a good reason to give things room? WOW! And this, a final year creation project for Brighton University. It is possible that some men do spread their legs too far apart, BUT SOME LADIES DO, TOO! And men have something in there which needs room. Aren't women and men's hips created differently due to necessities of childbirth? Is this feminism gone crazy or the norm?
"As well as receiving plenty of praise for her design, Laurel’s work has been presented with the Belmond Award for emerging talent."
"As part of her prize, Laurel will be commissioned to create a product for the hotel and leisure company (who gave her the above mentioned award) and receive a £1,000 bursary."

Gender design aside, that looks like one of the most uncomfortable "chairs" I have ever seen.

They don't want to take her design "too" seriously and now an hotel is adopting it?

Sad to see sexism and misandry being praised now. We once were liberated from extremisim but not to reach equality obviously. Equality was a station that we went beyond to go into another form of extremism.

I want all of those who praise the 21st century as the century of "acceptance" and "equality" to see that this century is approaching a new form of darkness. Simply because they fought darkness with darkness. I'm not only addressing this issue. This issue is trivial in front of what actually happens.

I believe I usually would sue an hotel if they force me to sit on a "males" seat. I would be more than happy to bring their reputation to the ground.

...you could always just turn the guys chair around and sit the other way, problem solved! Plus? you'd then have somewhere to rest your arms! :)

The first real problem with this title is that is made up out of thin air, the second is arguing that implying manspreading is the comfortable way to sit and not taking up an adjacent seat is uncomfortable. Spreading your legs to take up multiple seats is simply rude and inconsiderate.

We aren't all lacking in certain places. Not all of us can cross our legs like good little boys.

The project is full of misandry and sexism.

I myself never use manspreading when someone is next to me. I try my best to put people in comfort. But now? An hotel is about to be forcing males to sit on a particular chair just because they are males. And that includes me. Who told them that we are their toddlers and need guidance on what is polite and considerate and what is not?

That sort of generalization is toxic. I'm surprised she is being praised for it. If it was a male addressing a gender-related issue this way he would have been accused of sexism and misogyny and sued!

As someone in the 98th percentile, you don't need to spread your legs... nor is anyone arguing you need to cross your legs, you can simply sit with your legs next to each other without encroaching on a neighboring seat. If a man has to spread his legs due to great discomfort, that sounds like a medical problem, not the false sense of needing more space.

Men should be ashamed of having testicles.
Their testicles aren't being constricted or compressed.

Feminists want to shame us for how we naturally sit due to what we're packing, but want everyone else to accept their breasts on full display in parks, restaurants, stores, etc while feeding their babies. It's hypocritical and ignorant. Feminists are a plague to mankind. People need to stop being ignorant and realize men aren't women and we need breathing room between our legs and that there's nothing wrong with boobs and women are entitled to feed their children wherever they please. Everyone grow up! Stupid, sick world.

Wrong! Just because you're one of the few men who can comfortably sit legs closed doesn't mean most of us can.

It was an art project and it encourages you sit with your legs closed, it's not a "man's chair." Men are not going to be forced to sit in the chair. It's simple ergonomics that addresses a problem, seen in society in which many men take up more than one seat in public transportation. Screaming that you don't take up space doesn't negate the fact that there are many men that do take up more than one scene despite not having edema of the testicles.

I think the funny part about proclaiming that people sit like this due to discomfort is that you don't see people sitting like this on planes, in classrooms, at restaurants, in a concert venue with seating, etc. If this really were a problem, you'd see a lot more manspreading across society.
