The greatness of a nation must be reflected in the character of it's people. Governments can do great and beneficent things using the taxes extracted by force from it's people, but those efforts ring hollow if the populace doesn't reflect the goodness of those efforts. The weakness or strength of the nation is the weakness or strength of the individual citizen.

So what is weak that needs strengthening? Several simple but crucial things.

Citizens must be law abiding.
Citizens must be financially responsible.
Citizens must be healthy.
Citizens must be industrious.
Citizens must be honest.
Citizens must be moral.
Citizens must be caring.
Citizens must be involved.

These qualities will make America great again.

Agreed, and it's therefore in the best interest of the government to help its citizens achieve those standards.

I know I'm voting Democrat this coming election!

I voted Trump and regret that decision every day.

So.
That isn't going to happen. Citizens are not robots into whom you can dictate behaviours.
There's going to be American losers just like in every country.

So how can you be great when your citizens participation in those activities is mixed....at best.

That’s not the country’s job. The majority of the qualities on that list begin at home. That’s for mom and dad. Not the government.

Few if any of those badly needed qualities are ever mentioned by the government. That should tell us something about our leadership.

Not necessarily. Those are qualities good parents instill in their children. Society suffers when they’re lacking.

The Church should be addressing it. But they’re embroiled in politics instead.

The best thing one can do to help America is to vote out the current President.

It may be the best thing for the Democrat Party, but certainly not the nation.

The church can address it at the denominational and congregational level only. Too many congregants are upright citizens only when they are attached by the butt to a pew. As soon as church is over...back into the world they go.

If the Democratic Party were to lose the election, however, and yet accept the verdict of the voters...now THAT would be a great thing for the nation.

I don't know what that means.
The OP is well-known for posting about his views on these issues - mainly that they are 100% the responsibility of citizens to manage for themselves. For example, he believes that rather than ensure that everyone has access to healthcare, people should just eat well and exercise, and all of their health problems will magically go away.

I'm making the point that if these are traits that make our nation strong, then it's in the interest of the government to foster them.

A million prison inmates are a testament to that fact.
True. America has a very high incarceration rate.
You make America great by kicking out illegals and suggest that people who disagree with you should just leave? By your rubric America will never be great; very few, if any countries actually.

Maybe law abiding and industrious, okay. The rest might make a country good, but they are not necessary for great. And regardless, it's not going to happen.

Of course it's not going to happen. The list is as much to convict as it is to instruct.

...the irony of this post? It's pretty amazing.
tulc(might just point out almost 3,000,000 more voters verdict was that they wanted someone else to be President) :sorry:
