Hi guys, I am looking for advice on what activities I can get my twin 7yr old sisters taking part in during the summer holidays.

They have been off for a week yet they have been indoors either playing with their toys and games console or have been fighting with each other.

We had them swimming the other day but they ended up splashing each other and causing a scene :(.

Check out holiday clubs local churches are running.

Local community centres run activities.

The library is probably doing a summer reading challenge.

See what the sports clubs have on offer.

My children and I go for walks to the beach, explore local parks, nature walks etc. Take picnics and a ball/tennis ball.

They love Tennis :), we spent most of yesterday watching the final, not the outcome we hoped for though :( :(.

Arts and crafts could be a thing if they or you are into that.

Other than that, everyone else mentioned great ideas. If your able, botanical gardens, zoo's, kid museums maybe?

Learn something with them. I homeschooled my kids so they were always with me. We had a lot of fun studying history by getting books about some topic, get documentaries and then a "movie-movie" (as they called it) set in the time period...then we would load up and go the local museums and sites related to that topic. We explored many very small free museums. Took our lunches to keep the cost down...take turns letting your girls plan the lunches and make them for everyone. We learned a lot about the history of our area and how our state fit in history. At the time, we lived in Texas...we saw some relics from when LaSalle explored the area before it was part of the US, learned about the various Native Indian tribes, learned about the Pirate Lafitte that spent time on Galveston Island, learned about hurricanes while studying the Hurricane of 1900 that almost wiped out the island (and visited the island saw the damage after we had a hurricane hit), visited the sites of the Texas Revolution, explored the WWII battleship at a local park, etc.. The sites are much more interesting to a 7 year old if they have an understand of the history before you go...and I mean explore the library for all books and movies related (along with giving permission to not watch or read something that turned out to be boring).

Another thing for 7 year old girls is explore the American Girl historical series together. 5 books per character plus additional books often available. Each character turns 9 years old in the series. Besides the books which are a good read even for adults, there are crafting books, sewing books, cookbooks, plays that the characters would have done, and really good "this time in history" books. You don't have to have the dolls to enjoy these books. You can read the books outloud or check out multiple copies and they both (plus you) can read the books at the same time independently. It is fun to learn about history from a girl's perspective.

Whichever options you come up with whatever you do not say "Right girls. Get ready. We're going to go to X." That they can easily reject. Give them a choice. "Right girls. Today we can go to X and have a great time doing A, or we can to Y and have a great time doing B. Which would you prefer?"

If they disagree as to which they want, then toss a coin and the one who loses gets to choose tomorrow.

Actually that sounds like great fun. I presume it was a public pool and the others swimmers objected?

They love Tennis :), we spent most of yesterday watching the final, not the outcome we hoped for though
Yes. The only major I can recall where the loser clearly played the better tennis. Can't you take them to a tennis court somewhere? Fifteen years from now you could be sitting in the Players box on Centre Court watching them contest the final.

Not so relevant for someone living in the UK. :)

Oops.. I know there is also a series about the childhood of famous European queens that my daughter and I also enjoyed called the Royal Diaries. I am sure that there are other appropriate equivalents...ask your librarian. The American Girl Kaya character is about life as a North American Indian before settlers arrived. That could be interesting to anyone but may be harder to find in UK.

The places that you can learn about and explore in the UK sort of blows my head with their possibilities. Dress them up in costumes from different time periods and go experience your rich history.

I don't think I gave my kids options very often. Often I didn't tell them until they were actually there and just told them that we were going on an "adventure" and what to bring. If it was a beach, I packed the stuff so they wouldn't know ahead of time. At 23 and 21 years old, I know they would still clear their schedule and be ready with smiles, if I asked them to be available for an adventure on such and such a date. My daughter sometimes asks me to set up a family adventure because it has been too long.... :D

I took care of my twin sisters too,

if it was summer weather we went to a park where there was plenty of grass, swings and roundabouts,

running around or just lounging in the grass it was holiday.

Unless you are thinking of running some kind of Butlins camp, hehe.

Can I ask how old your sisters are :)?
