The children who have been detained in appalling conditions at the border could bear scars from the experience for life, experts say

Almost everyone I know from my childhood has suffered experiences that have 'scarred' them for life, myself included. If being detained at the border in "appalling" conditions (no toothbrush or soap) is the worst 'scars' these kids face I envy them.

Also they're trying to enter a country where much of the population suffers from some mental or emotional problem, so they'll fit right in.

I'm sure that many of these kids faced worse conditions in their home country and on their journey to get here.

Kids are resilient. They'll do just fine.

I did.

I suspect that it might have been more than just going without a toothbrush and some soap....

Beyond that, the lawyers said many of the children had been separated from their families - often from adult relatives traveling with them, but sometimes from their parents.

Most of them should have known that they might be separated long before they arrived at the border. They rolled the dice, and lost.

I’m sorry, I find this attitude detestable.

So at least we're admitting we're a long way from "no toothbrush" now.

I am at a loss for words at this.

Where is your humanity? Your compassion?

Would you be fine with doing this to every child born in this nation?

They will pour their heart out for kids who fit their agenda, like ole nancy pelosi, who said she was a lioness for these children.

But lets rip out the unborn ones and throw'em in the trash.
what a joke all this is.

It is said that here in El Cajon (I saw the place on local news)where they house some of these ones that have jumped across the border it cost the US taxpayers $750 A-day to keep each child. I think they are being treated pretty well.

We are really seeing people’s true colors. I understand better now how atrocious happen in “civilized” societies.

I think some private companies (friends of Trump) are making some very good money in the name of detainment.

“They” might, but I don’t align myself with any political party, and I am adamantly pro-life/anti-abortion. But this treatment of children at the border is a disgrace to our nation and our humanity.

I suspect much of the cost of keeping them is not in basic needs and humanitarian aid, but in employing guards and security to keep them from escaping.

I do not believe Americas gov, or the American media on many levels on what is actual real and what is a manufactured crisis.
I have not been (or will be going) to this location or locations to see what is actually going on.

So for me if this is really happening to these kids, it just shows how incompetent gov is and is bad. If it is not happening as being made out to be, it again shows our gov, is just a liar as i believe it is.

A cursory look at our society would reveal the statement is incorrect. While some experience hardships in their youth it is evident the long-term effects vary. Their ability to overcome may depend on resources, counseling, a support network and other factors which may not be equally accessed.

The suggestion of scarring as an adequate description of ones state reinforces the point. Resilient people who’ve moved beyond their hardships would rarely describe themselves in this way. Nor would they assume their ability to circumvent obstacles can be replicated by others.

That's what happens when we suspect.
Kind of like making assumptions.

It is a wild card out there.

I always feel sorrier for the adults then the kids. They are the ones who have to worry and protect the children. The kids are often just playing in the most appalling conditions and are much more likely to adapt to adverse conditions. This doesn't mean they should be mistreated of course, rather my compassion is more for the parents. It is often harder to see others suffer than to suffer oneself.

Why would anyone want to come to a country that has so little regard for the well-being of children?
