Colin Kaepernick's skin appears darkened in Republican campaign fundraiser ad
Former NFL star Colin Kaepernick did not look like himself in a fundraising email that was sent by the National Republican Congressional Committee on Wednesday. The message included a picture of Kaepernick that appeared noticeably altered to make his skin darker, an attack ad tactic that has been used before and is considered by many as racist.

One Democratic operative who saw the NRCC’s Kaepernick ad described it as "disgusting."

"House Republicans are running on racism, plain and simple. It's disgusting, it’s offensive and it should be fireable, but there's no accountability in the Republican Party," the operative said.

Disguting, but not surprising.

First of all, I'm not surprised in the very least. Secondly, can he hold them liable for slander? And lastly, I agree with GoldenBoy89, since when did he become a flag? The idiocy is off the charts.

"Anti-American flag Colin Kaepernick"

When and how did he become a flag?

I've seen this gimmick used at my work where the model who is a young attractive Latina is darker skinned in the Spanish version of the poster but the same model has lighter skin pigment in the English version on the same poster. Their mistake was hanging them side by side which brought out the difference that most normal people wouldn't of caught if they were hung separately.

Image manipulation has been standard in advertising for a while now. Altering a person's skin color seems wrong, regardless.

Altering a person's skin color in the possible attempt to appeal to certain people's biases and prejudices is more than disgusting. I don't know if that was the intent behind the email, but it's easy to see why many assume malicious and racist intent.

It might be the lighting.

What would you do if you found out your assumption of racism is false?

The whole image has a different definition, not just Kaepernick's skin color. One seems to have higher definition. Look at thee jersey color. The red number is brighter in one image. Shouldn't we prove the image was tampered with before we slander the GOP? where is the evidence?

It's clearly darkened from the original. Now, you tell me exactly how an image gets darkened accidentally. I'm having a difficult time coming up with a reason that isn't nefarious.

Yes, the image appears to have been darkened, not just Kaepernick's skin color. That the image was altered seems pretty obvious, just by side-by-side comparison. Note that I haven't accused the GOP of anything yet, only expressed that it is easy to see why there are people who have the opinions they have over the image.

It may ultimately be nothing. But it's a little odd to have altered the image at all.

The point is that nothing about Kap himself has been altered if the whole pic is simply a bit less vibrant. And if you look only at the two faces, there is virtually no difference at all.

Whole image is darker. Someone has obviously edited the image.

The badge on the left side of his chest has been edited out, presumably not to draw attention away from the banner across the middle. While they were at it, it looks like they dropped the exposure.

The white guy in the back has darker skin too and in general the whole image looks desaturated.

I see no reason to believe they were trying to be fair to "anti-American flag Colin Kaepernick."
