Which denomination is the true one? For both Catholics and Protestants, I am sure each one of you will most likely have an answer, for one reason or another. But.... is it the right answer? The subject matter is important, and I beg you understand. My intent is certainly not to disparage any particular denomination with what I am about to share here. But here is something to ruminate on.

If one is truly preaching the pure unadulterated gospel, what happens? The gospel works! A good tree produces good fruit. Many are convinced that their particular brand of Christianity is the God centered one, as I am sure you do yours. We base this on what we perceive to be what the true gospel is, so we congregate with others of like mind.

But what if we based it on the type of saint that gospel produced? In other words, what if we based our assessment of any split or denomination upon what God had promised us? If we are to know them by their fruits, then shouldn't a major factor in determining who actually possesses.... or in this particular case.... is possessed by the truth?

Here is the sad truth. It is here that things get dicey for every single denomination on the planet. All 500+ of them. Yours. Mine. Ours. Theirs. Catholic. Protestant. Orthodox. Why? Because Jesus said that if we abide in Him, we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. If we are walking in God’s will, we will love Him with our whole heart and our neighbor as ourselves. We will love not the world, nor the things in the world. We will be single eyed, full of joy, and walk as overcomers with our shields of faith up, quenching all the fiery arrows of the enemy. Jesus PROMISED us that. It is our birthright, and it is time we finally possessed it, amen?

We must understand. We see these things as goals. They are not. They are fruits of the truth. Simply put, truly pure teaching of the real gospel WILL produce much fruit, amen? Those who walk the path will find the FREE INDED Jesus spoke of, free of committing sin. (His words, not mine). So how are we doing? How is your particular denomination of choice doing? Mine? Yeah, same as yours.

Now you may be honing in on the purpose of my OP. How do we react when we hear Jesus’s description as to what will happen when the real gospel is proclaimed correctly? Do we not get defensive, a bit angry, frustrated, trying to defend what we have put so much trust in?

Look, I get it. I do. Our identification, our feeling of security, comes from our affiliation with others of the same mindset. But at what point do we say "Something is off." This is what we need to face. Our security is not in Christ. Subtly, it has become our "group" that makes us feel we possess the truth. Ahhh, but does the truth possess us? Do we not see? If our love for our denomination is greater than our love for other believers who perhaps do not see things is the same light as we do is, then according to the word of the God we serve, we are still carnal. No exceptions.

When we finally stop and scratch our heads and really question why this is, instead of defending our group based on our denomination’s long history or our huge size, or our superior teaching, that is a real first step in seeking for and finding the answer we need.

But as long as we continue to worship man-made institutions and place them on nearly equal footing with God Himself, nstead of crying out to our Father to bring our own lives to fulfill the standard listed above, to set us free indeed, sadly we will continue to wallow in our religion. And equally sadly, the world will continue to look at us and call us hypocrites. and rightly so.

Change IS coming. who will see it first? Those who hunger not to be in rbe right group, but those whose hearts are crying out for more of Jesus, those who refuse to accept anything less than abiding in Him and walking pleasibg to the one who bought us.

Blessings,

Gideon

in the end no demon nation is the right one, but when all of the colours of the scattered rainbow come together, this resembles the light.
No brother. Paul said this. If that is our state, we are all carnal. The world sees our splinteredness, and can assess our state. Sadly, we cannot..... yet.

When Paul's assessment of us finally hits home, and bothers us, it will be then, and only then, that we will find ourselves on the path to true life in Him.

If understanding a church doctrine was the key to salvation we would be all set. I have a pastor who has a Masters degree from Liberty University but who comes off cold and ineffective. Give the same degree to another and he may come off properly motivated and do well.

We're talking about the same thing then.

When we're divided, as with a cracked lense, then the whole body is in darkness ... and how great is that darkness?

However, if in the future, the eye of the body is single, then the whole body will be full of light .. and how great it will be.

The true church has always been here. Things went belly up at the reformation!

But, Jesus did say that the gates of hell would not prevail against His church.

Through many storms, the church still stands. Why? Because it has solid foundations, built on the Apostles and Jesus as its cornerstone. Yes, many slates have come off the roof. Some windows are broken, even some floors have collapsed, yet still it stands strong.

The devil has infiltrated every church. He has won many battles, but, he will never win the war against the church of Christ!

LOL. I love you brother. You and I have had many discussions. But when our hearts cry out for the FREE INDEED Jesus promised us more than defending our own view of which one is right, ahhhh... then we will be getting somewhere!

You say things were fine till the reformation? Are you sure of that? I will let you search for yourself theough church history if your heart can stand it, but suffice it to say, ALL of our choices, Catholic and Protestant alike, have not exactly been candidates for the prestigious Denomination of the Year award. ☺️

Unity will not be found in any group, no matter how sincere they may be at the start. The fallen nature of man insures that. However, when we seek our God to be one with HIM, to say boldly as Paul did that we are crucified with Christ and that we... the old us.... no longer live, but Christ now lives within us.... then, praise God.... then we will be prepared to walk as one with one another.

Impossible you say? Ha! Hide and watch.

blessings to you, and I hope all is well with you.

I did say that the church has stood through many storms. This goes back to the early beginnings of the church right up to today. The reformation was a breaking away.

The seas have been VERY turbulent indeed yet still the church stands. That is a testament to the word of Jesus with the workings of the Holy Spirit.

Many jumped ship over the years. Now, they are on the high seas with no rudder!

God bless you too my dear friend.

"The true church has always been here."

This is true ....

and the true church are those who believe in and who follow Jesus and those people transcend across all churches and denominations and include those who do not attend a organized church at all.

John the Baptist anyone?

Luke 7:28

I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."

The reformation was like taking the kingdom away from Solomon in the age of Kings, the popes being figurative representatives of the kings of that era.

In general, the church is currently in captivity following the mirror allegory, including the Catholic tradition.

There are hundreds of denominations today with Christians of different backgrounds, worshipping God in ways in which they feel comfortable. But Christians everywhere should be united in purpose - to preach the gospel, to love to follow Christ.

I think people are drawn to a specific denomination because of their upbringing and background. Perhaps it is the church where they went to Sunday school, where they got baptised, married, or where they discovered their faith for the first time. Maybe factors such as the geographical location, the size of the church, the style of worship, and the services and support offered have influenced their decision.

I am a confirmed member of the Church of England. I occasionally visit other churches in the area and have enjoyed fellowship with methodists, baptists, and pentecostals. I have a collection of Christian books, a large number of which have been written by Catholics. I don't see church as simply the denomination to which I belong, but a worldwide fellowship of Christian brothers and sisters of different backgrounds.

Michael, this is true, we are in captivity. But how few see this.

We think because our prison cells are decorated in a nicer fashion, or because ours give us a bit more legroom or a better meal plan, that somehow, that equates to the FREE INDEED Jesus promised us.

We are about to be enlightened to the truth that will make us true overcomers, but the first step is becoming disenchanted with our business-as-usual take on what it is to be a Christian and part of the church.

They that sow in tears will reap in joy. Break out your hankies, folks, I have good news and bad news. The bad news? We possess some of the truth. But by our accepting it, in whatever denomination we find ourselves, as ALL of the truth.... the best our God has for us, we rob ourselves of what the word calls "rhe glorious liberty of the children of God."

The good news? God is about to awaken us and fill in the blanks. Buckle your seatbelts, you who hunger for more of Jesus, it is about to get awesome. ☺️

Yeah, if your shackles are your supports, truth (being set free) it may not at first seem like truth at all.

I'll just keep preparing, even if the promise comes later on and I'm gone that's what faith is about.

Agreed. Perhaps instead of just denominations one might look at how the whole religion got off track and returned itself from Kingdom to world of man. Put the Kingdom back into Christianity and remind the Adversary it may be able to control religion but has no place in the Kingdom.

You never get a barrel of 100% good apples! ;)
Have you ever heard the saying about the results of one bad apple in the barrel?

And on an individual level, Jesus has promised us freedom. Not 80% freedom. Not 90. Free indeed. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit. Cannot. Until we accept this, that our heritage individually is to walk as overcomers of ALL satan throws at us, we will settle for better decorated prison cells, perhaps, but freedom? Not until we admit that we need it.

Gideon
