The Catholic Church in Washington DC has it's problems. That's an understatement.

Those problems seem to be passed on and spread around. It's an issue of pedigree. A pedigree of debauchery.

Msgr Walter Rossi, the rector of the basilica in Washington, which was once bishop Bransfield's job, turns out to be an abuser of boys, a gay predator. Just like bishop Bransfield before him. Bishop Bransfield was a close associate of ex-cardinal ex-bishop ex-priest Mr McCarrick. Rossi was under the tutelage of both McCarrick and Bransfield. And cardinal Wuerl knew. Somebody tried to get him promoted but nuncio Sambi put his foot down. Archbishop Vigano and reporter George Neumayr confirm and tell the story.

It's an odd story about George Neumayr being persona non grata at the basilica, put on some rumored list of forbidden people, then found out, then escorted off the premises. I suspect the story will grow in coming days or weeks. Another name to watch will be Msgr Charles Antonicelli, friend of Rossi, vicar general and moderator of the curia for Wuerl, and now being granted the same role for new archbishop Wilton Gregory. He may be able to cover up for Rossi for a while.

The strange story here: Monsignor Rossi Boots Me From D.C. Basilica on Corpus Christi Sunday | The American Spectator | Politics Is Too Important To Be Taken Seriously.

For some reason I am still a Catholic. I'm not going to let such faithless priests push me out of the Church. We need to clean house. One of twelve apostles SOLD the Lord and ten of twelve ran away from the cross.

That article was very disturbing but it ended with what I was thinking. Much leeway is given to those on the wayward path with no intention of repentance and little grace is shown to those that are orthodox Catholics That are tired of being scandalized. We want the Church cleaned up. I do not understand why there is so much resistance to it.

There is resistance because they actively protect each other. And they have the goods on others so they are effectively silenced.

In researching my post I found other posts by George Neumayr that told even more of the story. Basically it spreads geographically to other dioceses with a tangled web. There are many more players who would be exposed and would have to be removed if a careful investigation of ex-cardinal ex-bishop ex-priest Mr. McCarrick ever is finished by the Vatican. Those who were promoted by McCarrick and those who got him to his position. Including his buddy cardinal Bernardin of Chicago, who figures so prominently in 'Windswept House'. What scares me is I think that fictional book is not at all really fiction, but factual but with names changed. Will cardinal Cupich protect the bad name of Bernardin? He already alienated the priest who wanted to burn some Bernardin gay banners.

It has been my experience that those in a place of power as susceptible to becoming more concerned with keeping the power than doing the job that comes with the power. From what I can tell, there was (is) a network of power brokers with, shall we say, unsavory habits.

And until we know how inter-related those power brokers are we will be subject to their protection racket.

Here is a bishop that stood against Pride Month. Within a few days, only one other bishop stood with him:
Bishop says ‘Pride Month’ activities are harmful to kids, faces huge international backlash

With close to 300 bishops in the US, this gives us less than 1% with both orthodox thought process and the guts to stand for it. If that represents reality - only 1% of our bishops are earning the food we feed them daily.

That actually makes sense of why things look like this.

Almost a year after the Summer of Shame - there has been no uprising to fix the Church within the clergy - only the laity.

I do not trust the judgement of my bishop, period.

Well, 1/12 of the apostles was an open traitor to Jesus. And 10/12 ran away at the crucifixion of Jesus. Leaving 1/12 who were both orthodox AND had guts. These were the Apostles, the handpicked and personally discipled. Only 8.33%. But Peter came around, and the rest came around except for Judas who hanged himself. Pentecost had something to do with it.

I suspect things are not as bad as 1%. But I could see it as bad as 8.33%. And I'm not sure I trust my bishop either. I DO trust my former pastor who is now a bishop in a neighboring diocese. But he's one guy. It's gloomy. Not quite as gloomy as when Jesus was crucified, but nonetheless oppressively gloomy.

We need a deep cleaning but those responsible for the cleaning have among themselves many filthy members. The good thing is that the orthodox cowards might be able to be pushed into action. THEY are the majority. Perhaps, for Christ Jesus they can step out of their comfort zones. If we pray them into it.

True. In a way, it's sort of like how Hillary Clinton got away with abusing every law in the book as Secretary of State, and nobody touched her---because as she herself said: she had the dirt on literally everybody in Washington, and "if I go down, they all go down."

The big difference is, the Church will survive the corruption. Our Republic may not. :(

The Church will survive, but the jaws of death may leave us severely mauled. I have been thinking how in two generations the province of Quebec, once the most Catholic place on earth, ended up one of the most secular places on earth. Some of it was Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Some of it was the '60's, but some of it seems to be a self-inflicted wound by cardinal Paul-Emile Leger of Montreal. The Church survives in Quebec, but barely. What will happen here. We almost had the 'Catholic Moment' that Richard John Neuhaus wrote about, but it's been derailed for almost 20 years now. Will it come back? Or did we kill it?

Disgusting.
Sorry to have to post it. I don't get a lot of joy posting such disgusting stuff. I'd rather just vomit.

I have a hard time with this. But the whole McCarrick story does have to be told. Who his buddies were and are, who his promoters were, who he promoted, and what he ruined. For ALL of that not to come out will prevent cleaning it up. The hierarchy may not be willing or able to do it.

I also feel this way. I'm in the Catholic Church for Jesus, not the failings of men. I will persevere through these crises, strengthening my relationship with Christ as I go.

Sorry to hear his about Msgr Rossi, he seemed to be such a nice guy in the letters that I read from him. I subscribe to our Diocese newspaper, so I'll be watching to see what our bishop has to say about this.

Some people are immune. Maybe he will continue on.

I am reminded about how, when the McCarrick thing finally erupted there were all of these people who said knew all along all about it, but didn't say anything. I hope that isn't happening here. Rod Dreher apparently knew all about it.

A homily;

These guys are usually very general and careful with their speech. This bluntness surprised me.

I felt wrapped in a cocoon of the Holy Spirit hearing the father speak the truth of God . I miss this so much.

I noticed New Bedford on the video. This is about an our from Boston down the South Coast. A very large Portuguese population. It was once the whaling capital of the world.

You should check these guys out. They run retreats, and seem like really solid, awesome, humble priests.
