I am a very neurotic anxious person. God has clearly over and over again made promises to me about many things and I know he is faithful to fulfill them if I follow him. However, because of may anxious nature it seems something is seizing upon any situation, or statement, or circumstance that could even remotely cause doubt in my mind to well... throw my mind and spirit into doubt. I know its irrational to doubt what I've clearly been told by God, and I know that God is good but the nagging feelings of doubt torment me and cause great anxiety and I can't make them go away. Do any of you have any advice on how to get rid of the doubt and how to have a more unshakable faith?

"anxious"... hello old friend... yet.. NOT a friend. Its SO easy for us to believe for someone else.. seems harder to believe for our self. FAITH... how do you get this? Faith comes by reading Gods word. Think go back and think about all the things you Father HAS already done and for you. For me.. anxious.. the word says dont be anxious about anything but in every situation by prayer and petition with thanksgiving present your requests to God.... I say.. no.. Jesus said peace I leave with you not as the world gives I give to you. Isa 41 10 Fear no for I am with you. Dont be dismayed for I am your God.> I will strengthen you Yes I will help you I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy... Anxious.. I say it is written.. I sought the lord and he heard me and delivered me from all my fears.

Fear. in the mist of this fear I say.. NO.. God has not given me the spirit of fear but of power and love and a sound mind.. I speak HIS word. And.. I resist the enemy and he has to FLEE!

So...if you doubt.. just say sorry.. keep going! Just because those DOUBTS pop into my head.. does not me I am always doubting.. its when I TAKE IT and act on it.. it then is mine. So.. when those doubts or ANYTHING that exults its self above GOD.. speak HIS WORD! No matter how I feel think hear or see.. GOD will always keep His promises to them that? LOVE HIM! To those that LOVE HIM!

Hi @aspie3000, I remember you!

Might I ask, what are the doubts revolving around? Feel free not to answer or to PM me if you want.

Also, might I ask you about your perception of God? If I ask you to describe God in words, can you do it?

The reason I'm asking you those questions is because it is so hard to help you without having a clear view on your perspective on God and your struggle. I will check some of your older threads now and try to track your experience so far.

UPDATE: I read about your struggle with sin and lack of friends. Do you still suffer these problems? If yes, can you sense improvement? Do you feel that you do those sins intentionally or are they unintentional and out of control sometimes?

Doubts will come. I've found that the best way to deal with it, like pretty much everything else, is to go to God with it, as you are, with your doubts. Ask Him to take care of it, to strengthen your faith in time, to give you wisdom, resilience and understanding. You can't go to anyone better than Him, and He knows how imperfect we are, He knows it fully. Then, you can leave that burden, and choose to trust that He will give you what you need in His time.

Perfect love casts away fear, and while it's hard not to feel fear when it comes, we don't have to obey that feeling. Fear doesn't get to be God. Consider things like this as an opportunity to train yourself into going to God with your worries and with everything else.

It's okay. No fear. God bless you!

I once struggled with strong anxiety. God was able to break through the crippling stuff, and get me to the point where I was able to choose to believe in him, and what Scripture says about him. And when I got to that point, I had to recognize that Scripture is more of an authority on God's character and will and power and supremacy than my own feelings were. In fact, my feelings had been manipulated by the enemy to oppress me. Recognizing this, I had to exercise faith that the Bible is right, regardless of how I feel. This took time, and prayer, and good examples by other believers. But eventually, I got to the point where I could joke about things that would have put me in a tailspin years ago.

Wait for God's timing. One day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like a day to God.

May I suggest two things.

Sometimes in life we have totrust God, life is out of our control, there is nothing we can do to change anything.
We have to trust God.

You have promises from God, so grit your teeth and trust him.
It is not easy, don't pray for faith, you already have that, just thank God for his promises and commit yourself to his care.

2nd, If your anxieties are getting worse see your doctor about something to help you cope with them.
